1955 - Thelonious Monk Plays Duke Ellington - 8 songs but Satin Doll is not one of them. Monk also played with the Ellington Orchestra at Newport I think in '62.
Because he rarely plated others work.....his words and the words of his contemporaries. I didn't say he never did. Maybe he did that in this performance because he was playing to Germans who may not have known his music as well as New Yorkers.
