Cranberry was one of the single best combat Magical Girls in the series, leagues beyond any of the girls you saw here, and if her arrogance hadn't caused her to dismiss Tama as too weak and beneath her to even worry about, she'd have killed all of them. She apparently had been doing these death games for years with thousands of potential victims, and all of them were fledgling Magical Girls with not a 10th of the experience or training she had. Which was the point ultimately. She was doing all of this thrills but wanted to keep it all under wraps from the Land of Magic, so she had to make sure there was no survivors that could reveal what she'd been doing. So no one save for those in on her scheme, or those whose memories could be wiped, were permitted to survive. The game was rigged the moment they became Magical Girls. Had it not been for Tama, not even our protagonists would have had a prayer..

It allows for the telling of really unique stories in this medium, where a Magical Girl is trying to comprehend basic things like speech, etiquette, and common sense and trying to balance out this newfound humanity with animal instincts they've lived with all their lives until now. And that's not even getting into the Mage experiments where Magical Girls have even been constructed from just magic alone.

Hell, even as a 'mentor', she had no real actual combat training, and certainly not enough to take on a veteran student of Mao with decades, if not centuries, of battle experience. It's crazy how unprepared all these poor girls actually were, once you get a look at the next arc where Snow starts training and you begin to realize how even the "strongest" of the candidates were little more than lambs to the slaughter. And this is especially true by later arcs. Any of the veteran Magical Girl in Jokers onward could pretty much single-handedly defeat all of the new recruits from arc 1 as an afterthought. spoilers for the latest book "MGRP: Black": God though it is so satisfying and badass when Snow White shows up on the scene and cuts down a Cranberry homunculus in a single shot. She's really come a long way.

Ok so i reread la pucelle's episode story and she didn't have six months, she had a few weeks. Holy shit, la pucelle should have died the moment cranberry kicked her in the face...
Cranberry has incredibly high durability, she had her limbs broken and was beaten practically in every way possible in Mao School, but still survived, even then, Hardgore Alice suffered a similar injury in her real, weak form and managed to live for a few minutes
This has to be the only anime I somehow enjoy both ironically and genuinely at the same time. It's so over the top with its tragedies that it's just ridiculous and I can laugh at that aspect of it but I somehow also really vibe with it emotionally and still end up crying when a character I really liked dies and hope that it still ends up okay in the end. Like wtf is this, I thought those kinds of enjoyments of something would be mutually exclusive... I can't wait for season 2 to once again wreck me to tears whilst simultaneously bringing me to laughter from its ridiculous hopelessness.
The fact that Joan of Arc Second Noble Phantasm in Apocrypha is literally called La Pucelle and it's supposed to be a massive grand fire sword that can burn anything in it's path-

He's dead because he never had a chance. Fighting her in a straight-up duel was naive, though he was a middle-school boy raised on cartoons so it's hard to fault him. He never was prepared for the way violence works in reality, that it's never about who's more righteous but who in the moment is stronger. And unfortunately, Cranberry was stronger and outclassed him in every possible way. The deck was never in his favor. Cranberry was a battle-trained, battle-addicted veteran Magical Girl with years of combat experience under her belt (more time spent fighting than he's even been alive). La Pucelle was a newly changed Magical Girl who barely understood his own power and strength much less his limits. None of these girls were ever truly trained and none of them really stood a chance, even the "mentors". The only way Tama even kills her is because Cranberry wasn't expecting the attack and got careless because she arrogantly thought the girl was too weak and pathetic to do anything. SPOILER: One of the things that makes Snow White such a dangerously effective combatant later in the series is because, in spite of her own strength and wealth of experience over the years, she's extremely aware of her weaknesses and limitations, and thus NEVER resolves to have a 'fair' fight with villains.

In MGRP they brutally kill each other among themselves for reasons such as knowing their identities, and stuff like that, a pregnant woman gets killed (baby first) by another magical girl that’s just doing it for the lawls, and the whole thing is a sort of battle royal. I swear, anime characters are all full of cranberry juice. You lightly tap them on the hand and they're vomiting up blood by the gallon, which strangely enough never seems to require nearly as much attention as FATAL INTERNAL INJURIES should really warrant once the battle's done.

oh wait you're talking about la pucelle. basically, magical girl aren't exactly human, they look like them but they're enhanced versions. they can't get sick, have good durability, strong bodies, fast reflexes and much more. being thrown into a wall is like falling from a 2 story building. not gonna kill you, but sure is painful
