The "Family Affair" Child Star Hollywood Broke

- Anissa Jones charmed audiences across America with her cutesy performance as Buffy Davis on CBS’s Family Affair. But as Hollywood has shown us all too often, the glamourous life of a child star often obscures troubling darkness beneath the surface. Jones, tragically, was no different.

It sounds like she was drugged? How long has she been dead. Toxicology reports after death are inaccurate. What year was this?
I have relatives who lived in California. People would put drugs in your drink. It happened to a relative of mine. It happened more often than you know. People wouldn't report it because you would get arrested for drug possession. There's a lot of creepers in California. Don't know why they are drawn to the place. I wouldn't raise my children there. My family stayed out in the more rural areas. They still had their experiences. It taught you to be street smart.
Like wow. Say. That's really interesting. Like wow. Say.
I still watch family affair grew up on it childhood memories
I spent many years very angry with my mother because she refused several modeling and acting offers I was given starting at a very young age around 1965, but my mom was very against the Hollywood industry and forced me to stop thinking about the idea anymore. Now that I’ve reached middle age I’m extremely grateful to her for protecting me from what surely would have been a lifetime of horrific abuse. Great video, thanks!
🤭 You said " surely,"
You're right
Yes thank god your mom didn't pimp you out like some have
Thank you for sharing your experience. Wishing you and your mother the very best.❤🎉❤
I think lack of talent spottet in the beginning and someone wants to protect the feelings of a young child ☺️
Amen to that smh
I lived across the street from Anissa & her Mother in Playa del Rey, CA. I had seen her on the beach a few times and she was so thin with her long hair you could hardly see her face. She died shortly after my son was born and her poor distraught Mother thought my son was Anissa incarnated. It just broke my heart. Anissa passed at 18 and I had my first child at 22. I remember the doctor worked in Torrance. I also remember when her brother died. Their poor Mother. Very sad.
Wow...Thank you for that information, my sisters and I loved the show, she's a few years older than me but the reruns played for years and I'm sure we saw each episode many times over. So sorry for all of her family issues and how traumatic her life turned out to be, it's a shame that this is the reality of what truly happens in Hollywood. Also, what about "Jody" how did things turn out for him?? I'll do some research later but for now can you tell us anything and would you happen to know who the black child is who played with her in the Elvis Presley movie?? Thanks again 💛
Such a Sad Story I just watched this out of curiosity my cousins use to teasingly say I looked like her as a little girl. I had no idea she passed away so tragic 😌 This must’ve of been a very emotional time for you the joy of having a baby and hearing this news. Sometimes I wonder if child stars should go into show business. I have found out about a lot of stars on this channel. Thank you for sharing. 🤍
I’m also born in 1958 & had a stage mother who wanted a Shirley Temple lookalike not a tomboy. I never knew she passed the year we graduated high school but it couldn’t have been an easy life despite her fame. What we lacked was genuine connection
Wow. How sad. I never knew this happened to her.
Talk about a small world.
My daughter was offered a contract. They asked me to sign over guardianship. Unreal. Sex trafficking was my first thought. My daughter was mad at me but 20 years later, she understands why I told them Hell no!
Oh hell to the N O on that. Unreal.
Guardianship Red flag
Im glad we never hesrd of her.
GREAT DECICION, MOM. I USE TO WATCH FAMILY AFFAIR. ITS A CRYING SHAME THIS HAPPENED TO BUFFY. LUV T.J.M.W....😢
I can’t imagine the nerve it takes to ask a mother to hand over their child to a guardian
I truly appreciate your respectful delivery of Anissa’s story. Poor kid was so adrift.
The best narrator for this story
... is that why you stuck pins in Mrs. Beasley?🤔
@ Wait… How did you know? WHO told you?!?
Child abuse - of course - the contract doexn't permit such tnoughts
Was she adrift, or were the adults the ones adrift? She had no boundaries and no past to have learned from.
62yrs old here...I had a Buffy watch...I never missed an episode...and this broke my heart.❤😢
60 y. o. here👋🏽. I had a Mrs. Beasley Doll & you couldn't pry that doll out of my hands.
Yes, I was a faithful viewer and missed them all when the show was cancelled.
64 here...same story! Loved the show...Sissy, Mr. French etc... I also loved my Mrs. Beasley! Memories from childhood; so terribly sad to hear this tragic story!
63 & loved this show. Watched it with my twin. We once lived in Torrance, Redondo Beach & Woodland Hills. Thank goodness we moved every year. Too close for comfort. Raised by our Grandmother who had lost both of her children also. Very sad household. I never knew any of this until now. So tragic.
61 years here and I had the Mrs. Beasley doll and wanted Brian Keith for my Dad! And yes, heartbreaking. She was a sweet little girl.
This show helped my brother and I cope with the loss of our mother. I was 5 with pigtails, and he was 6 with a head full of curls. I rarely put down my Mrs. Beasley. She was a source of comfort much like she was for Jody. It crushes me that this actress is gone now. I would have loved to tell her how much her role helped me through a grief stricken time in my life.
Buffy
Beautiful tribute 🌸
It helped me get through what was happening to me before I had words to describe.

I was just telling my son about here yesterday. How nice and sad she was. I went to high school with her. She invited me to her 18th birthday party. I didn't get to go to her party and latervi had learn she had died I was so sad and still think of her to this day. RIP❤
Westchester High class of 1976 as well, I saw her around but never really knew her.
When I was 9, I wanted to be an actor and make big money. My parents laid down a few rules: No skipping school for any reason, no work or auditions on the Sabbath, my parents would not miss a day of work, no going to parties, and my siblings were not to miss out on anything because of me. I never got to be a movie star. And by 1993, when stories of Todd Bridges, Dana Plato, Danny Bonaducci, McKenzie Philips, Macauley Culkin, Corey Hyams, and Corey Feldman, hit the tabloids, I knew I'd dodged the bullet.
Culkin stated over and over no one's did that to him. Even the stuff with Micheal he dismissed
Yep, my kids are musically inclined so much that my daughter (while serving in the USCG) sang the National Athem on television. My son and grandson are equally as talented, but I've always stressed that their talents are not meant for the entertainment business.

A talent scout once offered my sister a chance to do some modeling work. Early 80s, she was about 13 or so. My parents said no. So happy they did, my sister is now very successful and happily married. It really makes ya think what might have happened.
You have good parents who love their kids. Anyone who would put a child in that world should lose custody
Modeled briefly in my teens but was turned off by the sleaziness of some of the photographers who kept pushing me to do poses I didn't want to do. Was glad to leave it behind me.
I grew up in LA and in the 80’s I did some modeling until a photographer asked for a photo shoot at an apartment complex. Back then you could get jobs from the paper. Also was sent to some “agencies” in the valley that had partial nude photos all over the walls so it was clearly not the kind of modeling I would do. I had a lot of friends that ended up in that industry though and every one had a drug issue afterward. My dad was in the business (catering for movie and tv sets) so I knew a lot of actors and went to lots of clubs and parties with some young Hollywood stars and they all had issues, very sad.
Horrible things
Caring parent
We watched these shows, loving the wholesomeness, never realizing the torment bubbling beneath the surface. Makes me thankful for my loving parents and my comparatively mundane life.
It really does.
Years ago they wanted to audition my granddaughter for a agency. My granddaughter wouldnt go in by herself. They only want children that are fine to be separated from their parents. Thank GOD I believe it was a true blessing.

As rated by the Catholic Church dictated what we could watch , and now look at the Church . Some B rated shows could've helped being able to recognize things that could go badly .

My little girl was approached by modeling scouts several times when out with me or her dad - we took a few cards, but always ended up throwing them away. My daughter is now a well-adjusted, bright, happy teen. She doesn't need that superficial world.
Why did you stop her?
good for you!
@@danielmorse4213because Hollywood is a cesspool of drugs and pedos. Who would ever want their child in that atmosphere has zero discernment!
100 percent. No one was meant to be put on a pedestal. We're not equipped to properly handle it.
Thank you. You did not selfishly allow your child to become food for the monsters. You have my gratitude.
This program about this family with loving family relationships helped me get through a very baron and loveless childhood. I lived my dream family through them vicariously and was comforted. Thankful for that!
My mom had bright blue eyes and dark wavy hair as a toddler. Very pretty. This was back in the 1920s when child actors were big. Some "talent scout" was interested in her but my grandmother said no!
😝 I picture my grandma. Who came off as mean . But I think that was her being protective .
Hollyweird has always been known for the actors and actresses bending over or laying down on the casting couch. Even then people knew about what happened to the kids. The problem the police, courts, or any other government entity will go after them. My opinion only, they must be in bed with them
Poor shirley Temple. 😢
@marydbaker Shirley Temple was one of the child actors that did well despite their early stardom.
Her parents were very active in protecting her interests. Her second marriage lasted 55 years, until her spouse's death and she was VERY successful in her chosen adult profession, serving as a US ambassador and the US chief of protocol.
So why, "Poor Shirley Temple"?
@ look at the baby ones. She was exposed. There was a disown that exposed himself to her. Separated from her mother - a similar scene with her mother too. She told that story on CNN before she died.
At almost 65, I never heard about her passing. I /we never missed an episode. Love this show. How Sad For Her 😢😢

My mother saw her on a talk show and fell in love with her name. She said on the show that her name meant “Little Friend”, this is written in my baby book. I still have her doll and her pull string still works. I wish she would have lived longer. I was 6 years old when she died.
You have her spirit within you ❤

Such a smart girl and sweet. This happened to a girl in my high school who was very studious but went to college in Chicago in 1972. Her death was shocking to our high school. The early 70s were a dangerous time but we were pretty oblivious. Thank you for this in-depth video on Anissa’s life. Family Affair was a staple for many kids to watch back then.
She was not “ sweet” at all. She was horribly spoiled. A very nasty person in real life like so many Hollywood types are.
How did this girl die in Chicago?
I’m sorry, Anissa didn’t die in Chicago, a young woman who was a great student in my high school, died like her of an overdose around the same time. It was just shocking also.
@@melindadurchholz3738 I was referring to your friend. Any idea what happened to her once she went away to college?
I went to Paseo del Rey Elementary at the same time as Anissa. I remember bumping in to her on the playground while she was chasing a ball. I recall her being teased and called “ Buffy” by the other kids. She seemed to let it roll off of her back. I noticed a photo of her Westchester High School ID but have no recollection of seeing her there. Her school attendance seemed erratic. What a sad story her life was.
I’m surprised my mom never talked about this show considering we loved the late Brian Keith. I’m glad this video exists. Her legacy will live on with this. Much respect to her and may she rest in peace.
Brian Keith was great in all sorts of rules. However, I thought it was unfair at the end to imply his death might be related to the film industry or the show. He was suffering from cancer and emphysema and had a child who had recently died of cancer. That's a lot for anyone to endure. RIP Brian, Sebastian and Anissa.
This was one of my favorite shows growing up. I looked so forward to seeing Buffy and Jody every week. Such a sad story.
Uncle French!!
I had the Mrs. Beasley doll
I wonder if she was ever sexually assaulted while working as a child actress? You don’t just develop heavy drug use from a 2 parent household even if they were divorced. Both parents were interested in her best interests. However on sets in Hollywood there’s always a predator amongst the cast ensemble. That’s been a known thing to take place. I wonder if some sicko got to her. And she just didn’t know how to cope so she turned to drugs unfortunately. I bet there’s a lot more to this few if any knows about!
Me too I had to have A Mrs Beasley doll
And Mr.French, "The Gentleman's Gentleman".
This is such a touching, heartbreaking story…Seeing her innocence, noting her kindness, absolutely tragic end of a beautiful spirit. Stories like these create space and awareness for our own fragility. ❤

I loved watching Family Affair when I was little. Anisa was absolutely adorable. She and "Uncle Bill" (Brian Keith) shared a very sweet chemistry. I was deeply saddened to hear of her passing when I was in high school. Family Affair was such wholesome show.
Yes, it was. I loved everyone on the show.
I remember that I always wanted Santa to bring me a Mrs. Beasley doll.
How times have changed!
Most other shows then were actually wholesome also!
Family Affair and Courtship of Eddie's father were my fav back then.
@@philbuell6657same for me. Such two of the greatest shows on tv.
I can just remember liking watching it and the characters and actors who played them, but not any episodes or plotlines or anything. My older sister had a Mrs. Beasley doll and matching little rocking chair that kind of made it like you were sitting in Mrs. Beasley's lap.
I was about to turn 6 when Jones died, so I had no idea about any of what she went through. Even though there was lots of wholesome family programming at that time, Hollywood was hellish for the kids working there with almost no protection from all the adults out to exploit them in every way. And now it's parents exploiting them on family vlogs and the kids have almost no protection again.

I watched Family Affair every week. I always assumed I was older than the twins, but when Anissa died I learned that she was 8 months older than me. (Jonny Whitaker is 13 months younger than me.) Having someone my age OD and die rocked me to the core. To this day, i think, “What a loss. What a waste!” I hope Anissa is resting in peace. Thank you for the respectful narrative!
I am two years older than Anissa, I remember fondly the days of family affair. It was sappy but authentically cast. My son overdosed 15 years ago and my sister was murdered in 1993. Lots of my freinds are gone. We grew up in a middle class family with no more or less than most. Family affair was 55 years ago and this country is much much worse now. We are living in Mad Maxx times now. Our culture has lost its way. Pray for our country.

Back in 76 I didn't read newspapers, so I guess that's why I missed the news. So sad to hear about her end. Brian Kieth is from my hometown of East Rockaway NY, just learned how he died too. Another tragedy.
I’m 55 now but I remember loving Family Affair as a little girl and I’ve often thought that it would be so nice to have programs like that show today. I had no clue that she lost her life and so tragically 😞💔
I loved Family Affair as well. I always wanted a Mrs. Beezly doll
I ran home from school every day so I didn’t miss an episode! Now I’m 57 and balling like a baby watching this. I had no idea about the circumstances of her death. 😢
I didn't realize either!
I had a Mrs Beasley doll!!!
So sad .. this was my favorite show growing up.. my parents even named me after Brian Keith....
Lots of children. I remember the show well. My heart aches for the child star of Poltergeist. Stephen Spielberg was the director of that movie and we know what Isaac Kappy said about him. So messed up.
Same here!! I've tried to find information about her in the past and couldn't find anything at all. I had a Mrs. Beasley doll as a small child and used to pretend that I was Buffy.
I absolutely adored watching Family Affair as a kid. I always wanted a Mrs. Beasely doll.😂 So sad to see so many child actors get lost & eventually succumb to a life of drugs. 😢
Such a great show. I loved the way Jody said uncle Bill.
Uncle Beel
My mom would watch "Family Affair" with me and my 3 sisters every week, we loved all the characters and it was such a wholesome show for kids and families to watch together back then, I just learned recently that Uncle Bill (Brian Keith) committed suicide, I don't recall hearing that at the time, I don't remember who played the big sister Sissy but Mr French (Sebastian Cabot) the butler/housekeeper, and Jodie (Johnny Whitaker), they all played such good parts! I remember when Mrs Beasley (Buffy's doll) did go on the market one Christmas and my little sister had that doll, this brought back some good childhood memories, thank you for this!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
Sebastian Cabot used to host a show called Ghost Story in the 70s. I used to love that show. Good and spooky!
Your comment is beautiful.....great childhood 'wholesome' I love that.....memories, not like what young ones watch today, bring on Family Affair and Brady Bunch and Gilligan's Island, the Honeymooners, okay stop me. I loved you adding 'wholesome' touche...may she rest well.
Doris Day said Brian Keith would have never committed suicide.
Kathy Garver played Sissy.

Loved this series "Family Affair",, watched every week. Loved Buffy (Annisa), Johnny Whitaker, Brian Keith. Great show, very heartwarming.
R.I.P. Brian, Annisa, Johnny, Mr. French ... surely missed, gone too soon. ❤😊
My daddy bought me a Ms Beasley doll when I was 4/5 yrs old. Oh how I loved that doll.
Buffy was such a sweet child. She loved her uncle Bill and brother Jody, and Cissy.
I recall reading of her breaking her leg in a grade school newspaper. Then later I saw her walking on crutches on set. What a hard time?😢 Brian Keith took his life too. Jody became an addict.
And now he’s a recovered addict and a drug counselor
I too watched the show with my sister. I loved Buffy, actually all the charts. So many child stars and drug overdoses. I lost my son due to cocaine overdose 31 Dec 2020 at age just turned 34. Here in Canada.
I'm so sorry for your loss.🙏❤️
I offer my condolences to you on the loss of your son.😢Addiction is such a struggle & my son who is 34 is in recovery now.

I'm glad your son made it to recovery!
We in Canada are certainly not immune from such tragedies. It seems to me they’re on a slightly smaller scale, but I’m not an expert. When you lose your own child though, those statistics mean little. I’m so sorry . My deepest condolences..
Sorry for your loss ❤❤❤
Very compassionate and well done bio of Miss Jones.
Thank you for showing such respect for her life cut short by what is still happening today with the fentanyl epidemic. RIP Anissa Jones and ( brother) Paul. 🙏🏻
This absolutely broke my heart. Rest in peace at last, Anissa. You are one of God's angels now.
Family Affair was always one of my favorite shows growing up. It’s heartbreaking to think about what Anissa went through and her tragic end. She will always be remembered with love and admiration. R.I.P Anissa. ❤
I was three years younger than Anissa and a fan of FAMILY AFFAIR when it went into syndication. I remember when she died. It was a real shock. Thanks for the additional info on her life.
AS A CHILD I TRULY LOVED WATCHING THE FAMILY AFFAIR SHOW ❣️❣️❣️
THE SHOW TAUGHT US HOW
COMPASSION AND EMPATHY AND TRUTH AND UNDERSTANDING OF OPEN COMMUNICATION BETWEEN A PARENT AND CHILDREN COULD BE POSSIBLE AND THAT A CHILD SHOULD NEVER BE AFRAID OF NEEDING TO TALK TO THEIR PARENTS ***
A CHILD NEEDS GUIDANCE IN LIFE ***
NOT FEARING JUDGEMENT OR PUNISHMENT FOR WANTING TO KNOW OR UNDERSTAND HOW THE WALK OF LIFE WORKS AND THE PATH NEEDED TO BECOME A SUCCESSFUL CONTRIBUTING MEMBER OF SOCIETY AS THEY BECOME YOUNG ADULTS ***
THANK YOU FOR SHARING LIFE LESSONS WITH US ❣️❣️❣️
I still watch Family Affair on Pluto TV and TUBI. Great show.
I like the show !! But some of the topics on that show were way out there !! Like the one where they pretended to be poor ??? So so out there !! But overall still a good show
Took a piece of my childhood heart with her passing, as a fan.💔.
Me Too , To This Day . My Mother dressed my sister and i Just like her in the pic with the pink suit , even the gloves & tiny purses ,We Loved Her !😭
I wanted a Mrs. Beasley doll but I guess they were too expensive cuz I never got one but my cousin did. lol. I remember watching Family Affair reruns every morning before I started kindergarten; I loved Buffy and Jody. The Lucille Ball Show would come on before or after Family Affair. I can still visualize myself as a little girl watching my favorite 📺 TV shows not knowing that one day this little girl would die from a mysterious overdose. So sad to hear how she died at such a young age. She will forever be Buffy. RIP Anisa. 🕯️
May Anissa and her brother both RIP! Such a sad story.🙏💔🙏
MERCY JESUS I NEVER KNEW WHAT HAPPENED TO HER AND HAD FORGOTTEN ABOUT HER 🥲🥲🥲🥲❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️RIP IN HEAVEN SWEET CHILD!! 🙏🏽🙏🏽😘😘
I remember her, and she was so adorable. She is now at peace. I'm so happy I didn't chase my Hollywood dreams.
God bless this girl and her beloved brother in heaven ❤🙏
❤❤❤amen
I grew up watching Family Affair. Loved the show so much. It was horrible when she died. I am a huge Elvis fan and didn’t remember her being in one of his movies. I will have to watch the movie again now. This is such a heartbreaking story.
I just loved this show and loved Mrs Beasley her doll
I loved that show when I was a kid growing up ! I stll do, almost 50 years later! What a shame for Anassa, Buffy. Only Two are still living from the show. It's on TV daily, to this day. Goodnight Buffy.
One of the weirdest things happened in my childhood: on the day that Anissa Jones died, I happened to be traveling with my best friend and her family and we were in Victoria BC. I remember that we were sitting in the car in a parking lot and all of a sudden we see Sebastian Cabot walking to his car which was parked in front of the car we were in. What are the chances of that happening? Sebastian Cabot died a year later and he was only 59.
He filmed a few movies in Vancouver in the 60s. It was rumored then that he owned a place in Victoria,as he was often seen there. I believe he also starred in a play there as well
I was in a fashion show with her at ADLERS in Prairie Village Kansas. She said maybe one sentence to me. I still remember my purple 💜 dress with orange circles and orange fishnet tights.I loved my 2 Mrs Beasley dolls as I lost one dolls glasses. I was 💔 ! RIP Anissa! Very sad. I wish I could see pics of her at 13 on.😢😢😢😢😢
I met "Buffy" once in San Diego at the now gone Buffims department store when they introduced a line of clothing in Buffy's name and what she wore in the store, she appeared annoyed by this and this was the beginning of her not wanting to do the show anymore.
Buffum's Fashion Valley?
BUFFUMS DEPARTMENT STORE.
Amazing and heartbreaking story, great recap and Thank you too 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I remember back when I was a little kid growing up during the 70's. Family Affair was one of the shows that I remember watching. Mrs.Beasley, the doll the Buffy had and loved. Jody, Mr.French, and Uncle Bill. Oh and Sissy, the older girl. It was a really nice show that showed that a family doesn't always need to be a Leave it to Beaver household. It's sad that she passed away far too early and young.
This is such a sad ending for this former talented child star.
She reminds me of Drew Barrymore as a kid
I confused them for years. They looked so similar when children
She sure looks a lot like her as a child.
She gives me Shirley Temple vibs
Absolutely!
Very much 💕
In 1970, Anissa had an appearance at our local Titches store outside of Dallas. I met her as I was 2nd runner-up in the Buffy Look-a-like Contest that day. We were 12 at the time. I noticed she looked very bored or unhappy. Looking back, I can imagine she probably did not enjoy the experience at all, and probably wished she weren’t expected to be there. I would have rather been at home than having tons of people gawk at me. I was a freshman in college when my mom called to tell me she’d died. It was very upsetting, having seen her in person, and remembering that 6 years before she had seemed sad. So many lived that little girl on the screen. I still tear up thinking of her.
