I'm using one of your A&O collab planners as my Pretty Planner, which is full of stickers and has a kawaii theme. It's chef's kiss! I use an A5 HON as my work planner, so I have the best of both worlds ❤ Love your A&O collab planners - I hope you keep making one every year!

as a business owner, I would think it's a no brainer to use your own planner. Very cheery spread.

I think it’s important to use our planners with intention. I just switched out my TN inserts last night because I hated what I had. I think it’s okay to dislike your notebook or planner. It’s good to have spaces where you can create freely. We can’t discover new things if we don’t!
I changed my insert to the Tokyo edition one, and it feels so much cleaner and a great chance to start over. I will be posting a new techo kaigi about this hopefully by tomorrow morning.

That’s really normal to be ‘tired’ of something you’re using. Thanks for being honest about the guilt, even though we logically know there’s nothing to be guilty for, it’s hard to get past that too. I most definitely did abandon my hobonichi last year because it got too bulky and I didn’t like to work in it anymore, and it’s okay to give yourself permission to close the chapter on something that don’t give you joy anymore (I learnt this from you!!!) I will suggest that if you plan to go back to Hobonichi to consider the avec version, which splits into 2 books for the year. I’m using that this year for my memory planner and it’s much easier to work with and doesn’t bulk up too much because you start anew for July. It is Japanese only though, if you don’t mind having it in Japanese, I mostly just cover them up with something else😅

I'll be interested to watch a discussion about journalling the hard times, bad/sad things, etc. I do sometimes find that tough - example, there was a big fire on the farmland around our house one night over the summer. Thankfully the fire brigade handled it, nobody was hurt, and there was no damage to the houses (there are 4 houses with the farm wrapped around us) but it was too close for comfort, I'd got our son asleep upstairs, n my husband was still on his way home when it happened - it was all pretty scary! I couldn't face journalling about it at the time because it felt too over-awing. I did go back n do it later but I needed a few weeks space first.
When our son was in the NICU (he was extremely premature; he's 6 now n absolutely fine, thankfully), one of the nurses made these little paper booklets for parents to journal in while they sat by the incubators/cots as she thought it'd help with processing it all. This was before I picked up scrapping n journalling/memory planning and I did write in it but it's very factual about his status that day, procedures, etc not about my feelings (it is still a special keepsake from the time; we kept it in his drawer n his nurses added to it too). I often wonder whether if back then I'd been into memory keeping the way I am now, would I have been able to use it more effectively to help me process rather than getting stuck in survival shutdown mode for so long? (I did eventually process with therapy but he was nearly 2 by the time I was ready to do that - that was a long time in survival mode!) Or would I have still found it too much n shied away from putting it paper? We'll never know but its a hypothetical I still ponder sometimes.

Oh no, you're not alone, Amy: this sort of planner angst is very common for all of us! ;)

The struggle is real - don’t get me started on 2025 😅 but you made a good point about giving yourself grace and you going back to the other plan anytime you want

I feel like every Aug/September, I start looking for new journals and/or planners! Maybe I need to start mine in August instead of at the beginning of the year? Leftover memories of new school supplies maybe makes me feel this way. Lol!

Totally! I think it's a school year mentality for me too. I thought about waiting until October 5 for my birthday so then it could be based on that, but I could not wait ;)

How about the one you made? Would that layout work? Any one would be good. Your handwriting is pretty lovely 🥰

I don't tend to feel the itch to switch books before they're done, but I've been using blank pages so it's easy enough to mix it up format-wise within the same book if I get bored or find a format's not working for me right now, so maybe that's what helps me. I do however have a bit of problem with buying books I like to save them for future use (I only buy plain or dot grid so there's no time restriction) and I also make my own (using Happy Planner rings n making covers out of patterned cardstock or even gift bags); I could probably keep going for like 5 years on the stash I've got without needing to buy/make more (but I probably still will 😆)

I was just about to splurge on a Hobonichi for 2025! Do you think it’s entirely not worth it?

I am having a 2025 planner crisis. I want to change from a weeks to a b6 or an a5, but finding kits for them that actually fit is becoming too annoying. I was considering a HP mini dashboard but their options here in australia are honestly so so ugly, i could change the cover but the insert dashboards are gross. I was considering a W222 A5, but standard sticker kits would be 1 or 2 squares too small for the stacked version, so there would be space between columns, and the unstacked the standard stickers are 1 square too big. Honestly thinking about it is exhausting and ive considered just giving up planning and selling everything, sigh 🥲
