Sorry that you asked this 4 years ago, I must have forgot to answer it. Regarding pickup change, yes he did in the 60s. There is a 60s live video of The Shadows playing FBI on youtube, it can be seen Hank changed his pickups. But more importantly, it does sound like different pickups on the records, so I went from there. Modern Hank (90s-2010s) tends to use only bridge pickup as he does not try to replicate his old sounds. I hope this help. Robby
@@suaragitar I think he prefers the bridge pickup because the Kinmans sound is so robust that the middle and neck would sound too muddy onstage....but now I think hes back to his old vintage sound with the Kinman Impersonator 54.
Hi Robby - That was a super recording - sounded just like the original and your playing was excellent. Great video too love the close up's. All the best.. Phil
Thanks Phil! This is one my favourites to play. I am trying to show different angles on the video like you, still trying to figure out the zooming effect though lol Regards, Robby
Well Robby, I enjoyed it again very much. You can play like a professional (read: Hank Marvin). Very well again. I will waite for placing may F.B.I. some mounth I Think... Last week I'have made Big Boy from The Shadows. When you have time you can look at it. Greetings from a very wet Holland, Cees

Well done. One of my favourites to play when I was in a band. It did sound a little rushed though. I assume the backing track was created by you? Maybe play the lead role back and record the backing track to match the pace. Then when you play your backing track it should match up a little better as they are both played by you. However, that being said, it was really well played and very enjoyable. There are some very tricky bits in there which you did NOT shy away from. I have heard some players dumb it down a bit and you can tell. New sub!!! Thanks.
Hi Chris, me again! Just hoping you and the boys are still in good health these days, never tire of listening to your shadows covers, and still the best around! Bon chance mon ami.
Hi suaragitar, Bravo, excellent ! I understand you make your own backtracks, so I have a request: our bass player is too sick to play with us, and we tried to still play just the three of us so we can wait for him to feel better but it's really not the same . Do you think it's possible for you to give us the bass line only of the Shadows song you are playing so we get a virtual bass player, and wait for our friend to be able to get back to us.?? It would be very nice. Thanks Georges from Canada
After hearing so many classic hits ruined by dickheads obsessed with using fuzz or overdrive & distorting them beyond recognition, it was fantastic to hear someone dedicated to playing Shads stuff 100% authentic sound nice one mate!!! For really good rockabilly sound, try Randy Richter as well he gets the sound perfect too!
SUPERBLY played. How do you find backing tracks for this or will i have to make one on my keyboards. Ive been playing the Shadows tunes for over 30 years without backing tracks 😕 Interesting you play this in a different key and higher up the neck than me but it sounds perfect!
FBI is one of my least favorite Shadow songs, but now after I see you playing it, this song definitely moved up. Great performance. Best wishes,...Johan

Hí Robby, I enjoyed the music. All the best: ME from Hungary
Hi Steve, there were 2 live performances from the early 60s where Hank used the middle pickup and changes to the bridge pickup. That's what this video is based on. The original record was probably used bridge pickup with a lot of cuts on the treble Regards, Robby
Spot-On Robby - note for note perfection - I was 14 years old when this was released and was,and still am a big Shads fan - never tire of listening to this - every note is implanted in my head - and you never missed one - - - lovely Strat by the way - -- -- -- - treasure it.
You sound and play very much like Hank Marvin. Hank used his vibrato bar quite a lot while playing. If you watch him, you’ll notice that he had a constant hold of the bar. This way he didn’t have to keep reaching out for it. As a suggestion only, perhaps it might be a good idea for you to do the same. Cheers.
Thanks for the suggestion. You are referring to modern/older Hank. I played this FBI version based on The Shadows 1961 version. Here is the video ua-cam.com/video/mOft4NbBjz4/v-deo.htmlsi=ty8js-hDsnHrVwUj
@@suaragitar btw, i also love your interpretation of the the hunters - the storm, although my progression is different from yours. perhaps you should check out a song called Moon Mist by the Blue Jeans. many thanks anyway
bravo veramente forse il miglior shadows-cover mai sentito ma......quella leva vibrato urla vendetta e le corde sono troppo sottili rispetto allo 012 o 013 delle corde di quei tempi...
Hello Sir, very nice interpretation, this is one of my favorite song of the Shadows. Could you tell me which backing track you use and how I can get it. Best regards. Pierre
A very accurate rendition. It is from 1961, and I believe it was their 3rd hit after Apache and Man of Mystery. It was written by The Shadows themselves (i.e. Hank Marvin, Bruce Welsh, Jet Harris and Tony Meehan - the original lineup), but was credited to Peter Gormley, their manager. The explanation for that which I've read is that they were too young at the time to be listed as its writers. I have never believed that explanation, since they are credited with a lot of the numbers on their first album, from the same year, and Hank Marvin and Jet Harris were also credited for singles they released prior to Apache. In my opinion, they were taken advantage of a lot, in those very early years (their version of Apache never even got released in the USA - it was re-recorded by an American group - the Ventures, I think - so they lost out big-time in that market).
This guy has the best Hank Marvin tone on the internet!!!
If Hank ever had to cancel a gig due to illness, this is the guy to step in and save the day a perfect substitute.
peter Cousins,
don't they call it an under study in theatre, cos' for me he was Ace.
The best sound and game heard on the internet !

Congratulations..Your sound and your playing is second to none. You've certainly done your home work.
