If only I watched this earlier before my DIY attempt during the day because come dask and I experienced the "disco lights" effect... 😅 Now I know that my 6amp day/night switch was close to the light and when the light switched on, the brightness tricked the switch and it would turn off, then on again due to darkness! Lol.. Thanks Jean for the tutorial.
Thsnks for highlighting the different types of sensors with the different colour coded wires and their functions as we get our electrucal products from Europe USA and the East and to avoid unnecessary tripping of power.and damage to equipment.
Cannot thank you enough! At 1:53 : My exact model! Hadn't rewired in years - now I don't have to take it down to read the fine print. Thanks again, Jean B.
I watched this video to learn how to bypass it. My outside lights wouldn't come on but my meter was showing that the light-sensing switch thingy was receiving power. Thanks!
So how do I connect a normal single gang/pole switch to this and then to the mcb(main switch board supply) so that I can still have control over the light.
Thanks this was helpfull but how can i make it reverse polarity, This is for a chicken hatch, at night it needs to close, so power a linear actuator, then at day reverse linear actuator polarity and it open. If you see what i mean and have any good ideas that would be great!!!!! I was thinking arduino and mosfet but i am hoping there a better way!!!
Hi Ultra RC You will have to look for a Day/night switch like the one in my 12VDC video (ua-cam.com/video/DbxFXjyTcOo/v-deo.html) It has the COM / NO / NC connection, while the 230Vac day/night switch in this video only switches the supply LIVE connection. I have not seen a 230Vac one that can do that but another option is to add a relay (ua-cam.com/video/oyzlh6KrGW0/v-deo.html) and just switch it using the NC contact. PS I like RC Stuff. Like your videos! Subscribed!
Sterkte!
Hi Dear, how can we bypass this switch? for example I want to apply this sensor at the output of my UPS supply. So, everything that is connectes to the UPS and HAS the button ON, will turn automatically ON by the evening. thats fine. But how to turn those things ON during the day light? we nees to bypass this switch so that the electricity flows directly from thr input line to output line bypassing the sun sensor. Can we just put a button on input and output and turn it ON manually so that electricity flows out of sensor? Any thoughts?
Hi Fuad. I had the same problem a few times with just 2 reasons. 1. Faulty sensor that I had to replace. 2. I put the sensor to close to a light. Either the one on the sensor on another light. This will cause it to switch on and off intermittently.
Hi Omar. The little one that I used to switch the light on,I will put blue part up. The two bigger ones in the beginning, I will put white part up. But I do recommend putting it in one of the see through boxes as shown at 2:00 for water and sun. Groete
You can buy difdernt sized day/night switches. Let's say you have a 10A one and want to connect 10Watt spotlights to it. If you're voltage is the same as mine (230Volt), the calculation is as follows: Volts x amps = watts 230 x 10 = 2300watts 2300watts/10watts Led lights = 230lights that can be connected to the day/night switch. I would never connect the full amount of 230 lights but it gives you an idea
I want a light senser switch that turns on during the day and off at night. Its for a water pump that I want running only during the day and not at night
Kiran Ranganalli No...this can be used to switch an AC relay that in turn switches your DC curcuit. Check out my other video on relays/contactors. I think that I have seen a 12VDC day/night switch, maybe they are out there...
Thanks for this. I have bought the Major without the wires and have a white, red and blue wire coming out the wall (have to replace a faulty existing sensor) which wire goes to the "L" (Live Red?) "N" (Blue?) and A (White?) That is how I have connected but sensor still does not function. Any guidance?
Hi Daniel Thats difficult to say as it is not standerd wiring colours where Im from. You will have to test which two wires coming from the wall has power on them. L and N will have power. The other will be the return to the light. Trial and error might damage the switch.
As jy 230v bly soos tans in jou huis, sal n gewone day/night perfek wees. Groete Jean
Hi Farasat Make sure the light is not shining on the day/night switch. The switch will think that it is light again and switch off. Then think it is dark again and switch on and so on and on. Make sure they are far apart and does not affect each other.
Hi. You will have to connect a relay to the day/night switch that. The day/night switch switches on the relay at night and tge relay switches off the light when the relay turns on. Connect the light on a normally closed (NC) contact on the relay. Watch my other video on how to connect a relay.

my spotlight LED is 100watt, what type of photocell rating is suitable, is the one shown on your video suitable for 100watt
Hi. Yes 100w 230V spot wil draw a current of around 0.45Amp. So any rating from 1Amp up will work.
How does it go intalled? White part goes on top or the blue one go on top. It seems it could collect water if the white go on top

How many bulbs connected together with this device 🤔
You can buy difdernt sized day/night switches.
Let's say you have a 10A one and want to connect 10Watt spotlights to it.
If you're voltage is the same as mine (230Volt), the calculation is as follows:

I want a light senser switch that turns on during the day and off at night. Its for a water pump that I want running only during the day and not at night
You could run the photocell through a normally open relay, which in turn powers your pump.
How much power does the ldr consume?
I know it's a small quantity. But how much exactly?
Hi
I tried looking in manuals or online but could only get a unconfirmed number of 2Watt.
So that would be 0.002kW/h or 0.048kwh per day.
I measured using a power meter. It consume 0.3 w. But i guess different models will have a different reading. Thanks anyway. Cheers.
Thanks for letting us know. What make are you using?
Can this be used in DC circuit?
Kiran Ranganalli
No...this can be used to switch an AC relay that in turn switches your DC curcuit. Check out my other video on relays/contactors.

How far the switch from the bulb?
Hi Francis.
It depends on the voltage drop of the wire and the watts of the light you put on it. Let me know and I will try and calculate.
Thanks helped me, my outside lights now turn on. buyt my downlight spots doesnt, so im kinda having a hard time figuring it out.

What voltage is in your country. A small house where I am would be 40Amps 230v. A langer house would be 60Amps 230v.
Thanks, Put 12v through the house, with all this load shafting...

how to make light turn off time night.....and light turn on time day
Hi. You will have to connect a relay to the day/night switch that.
The day/night switch switches on the relay at night and tge relay switches off the light when the relay turns on. Connect the light on a normally closed (NC) contact on the relay.
Watch my other video on how to connect a relay.
