I have have done all the electrical connections in my house myself, thanks mostly to your videos. Now I'm going to install a day/night switch, thanks to this video.
This saved me such a headache! Thank you. I am not an electrician. Did pretty well with circuitry in school. But understanding household wiring has always been challenging for me and the instructions with this day/night switch were pretty useless. After day one of trying to figure it out myself, I watched this and had it done chop-chop on day 2 ;)
Thank you for your help... Now with this loadshading how can one add an inverter to my db for battery back up? So my lights and least my TV stay on right through loadshading
Hi. Out of curiosity. Can you run the live wire on the load out side of the sensor. What i want to do is run a normal on and off switch as well as the sensor together. I'm worried about Live running backwards in the circuit and damaging the sensor as current isn't meant to run into the load out port.
@@ecologicaltime thanks I got 3 10w floodlights I want to hook up. Think if I use a junction box it would work? Thus only 1 set of cables run to the light sensor. What you think my man.
Hi There, thanks for your good instructions, I just need to know if there is any way to adjust the sensitivity of the photocell my photocell is about your the same type of what you showed on your video, but it activates when it is cloudy and stays on for all day and night, and I need to make it so it can only activate or turn the light on when it is absolutely dark, thanks in advance.
Something is confusing me. You indicate 2 Live wires into the sensor, yet the diagram on the sensor indicates Looping the Load & the Neutral. To my mind, you then only need a Live Line and a neutral into the sensor. Why the confusion of the additional live line into the sensor? In Effect, the sensor breaks the power-in line to the light. The lack of light then causes the sensor to close switching the light on. Does feeding 2 live lines in, not actually cause a possible shorting action? How can I post my circuit diagram, for your advice? Please advise. Angus.
I like way you call insulation (jacket) thanks now I know you need two lives other must be able to energized daylight other one must be able to energized spot light then nautratl must be connect together as youR return
if the light sensor does not activate it will not send a turn on signal to the relay to allow the light to switch on. Cover the unit with a dark cloth / towel, the light should come on after a few minutes.
@@ecologicaltime thank you for your response! Iam new to the DIY world but find some things just not as straight forward! Iam going to take your advise and move forward from there!! Let's see or I will be back to pick at you if that's ok?
I have all my lights run on one line. How can I connect this photocell without having exposed wires because my light switch to turn on all lights is in the house
its always best practice to earth any exposed metal work, so if you have an available earth wire and there is an earth screw on the light, then please earth it. Some lights have no earth point though.
thanks, i think it would still work as its sensitive so light will still penetrate the snow on top and the sides could not have snow which could not stick to the sides owing to gravity.
I did this exact writing before watching this video and it was tripping. Watched the video to confirm if I'm right or wrong then I thought let me retry all connections Did that and bam it worked I still dont know exactly why it was tripping all the time maybe I had a neutral connected where it shouldnt.🤔
Please help... Exact same sensor. Ive attached both red wires on each side. Live and load.... am have an extra black wire... The other iv attached the Center nutral port.

Thanks, boet, ek double check altyd voor ek met krag speel. Goeie video, mooi verduidelik en tot die punt. Baie dankie!

I love every practical display, you guys are amazing ❤😮

Wow awesome explanation.Really fantastic to watch you demonstrate .God bless
My uncle asked me to install it for him. Am gonna use same method👌👌👌
Explained it so nicely, thank you
Thanks for a practical concise explanation and installation. As a rookie DIY your video is very helpful. BTW love the pigeons sound in the background.
What a magnificent explanation
Thank you engineer for ur time
Thanks for this video. Helped me figure out how the load worked. The diagram didn't help me much 👍🏽
Thank you for video
The whole idea of watching the video was to see the position of the lux switch after you have adjusted it.
Thank you very much for explaining 😊
Beautiful beautiful
Excellent, clear instructions 👌
Excellent instructions, thank you so much buddy
Brilliant, thanks excellent instructions.
Very well explained video thanks

Awesome video. Thanks Bud
Thank you for sharing!
You have been very helpful.
Brilliant, thank you.
Thanks for a good explanation
Excellent explanation!
Thanks. Great help!
Hi I'm based in Gauteng. Where can I get this day and night switch. This is awesome and exactly what I've been looking for
Any electrical supply store like Voltex, Jupitor, or maybe Builders warehouse
@@ecologicaltime thanks I got 3 10w floodlights I want to hook up.

What you think my man.
yes it can work.

Hi, Steve. A little late but there should be a little switch you can turn with a flat screw driver inside your sensor to set the sensitivity.
You just earned a new subscriber! Quick question: can I connect multiple 10w/20w floodlights to one day/night sensor like this?
yes
@@ecologicaltime thank you for the information. Going to try this at home
excellent video.thank u
Thank you very much 😀
Thank you. That helped a lot.
Excellent 💪💪💪
Thank you amazing work.
Good thank you for reaching me
Saved me a couple of Rands, thank you.
thank you very helpful
you are good sir
Great video
so interesting make everything simple
thanks
Thank you!
That bottom sprag doesn’t fit into the gland seal so rain water will get in
At least you improved the cowboy installation the previous installer did the cctv wire instal looks like a child did it.
Why use a conduit box and not a junction box
Excellent
Assemble an adjustable night sensor for the lamp
Where to buy such a sensor in Ivy or online
I did not find a sensor
Thanks
How to adjust sensitivity if was dark and the light does not turned onn ??
there is a small calibration pot inside.
So you run one neutral wire to the sensor
And connect all three neutral ends at the bottom into at the junction box
yes
That 3 way is gona take water then short out and trip. The thinner sprague should go over the 3 way inlet
Shouldn't it be Ip44 rated at least
How can I repair the sensor switch if the light is not working again
Where do you locate the day/night sensor switch?
Lekker man, lekker
How do install for example up to 10 bulbs using an AC contactor in the circuit?
use a relay and you can do that.
Something is confusing me. You indicate 2 Live wires into the sensor, yet the diagram on the sensor indicates Looping the Load & the Neutral. one live goes into sensor, then the "Load" wire is the live going to the light.
My light does not switch off during the day, what might be the problem?
the termination at the photo cell was connected to the live part only then direct to the load
If you don't have some silicon, you can use cable ties on your spauge
I like way you call insulation (jacket) thanks now I know you need two lives other must be able to energized daylight other one must be able to energized spot light then nautratl must be connect together as youR return
Hi....quick question if the sensor is not working for some reason ...will the lights not come on at all? And how will I detect if that is the problem?
if the light sensor does not activate it will not send a turn on signal to the relay to allow the light to switch on. Cover the unit with a dark cloth / towel, the light should come on after a few minutes.

My day night switch is not turning the lights off in the morning...what can I do
Great size
Just differentiate between live wire and( live returner)that also help
thanks so much ,,, l do really appreciate ...

that strange why was the supply wire going to the light to begin with?
Hi, does your led flood light need to be earthed?
its always best practice to earth any exposed metal work, so if you have an available earth wire and there is an earth screw on the light, then please earth it. Some lights have no earth point though.
Yes I full agree with you earth must be aluys for next coming guy will be work on that same Led flood light
Skitterend.
Thanks
A photocell for 250w fitting its how many amp
250/line voltage = Amps for resistive loads
In SA, 250W/230V= 1.08A so max 1Amp
What type of cable / wire would you recommend for lights? Is the flag twin and earth from builders warehouse okay? It's around R290 for 20m.
1.5mm is the norm for regular lights
As per usual, THANK YOU. 🙏🏻
If snow falls, this setup wouldn’t work.. needs to be done somewhere under the roof
thanks, i think it would still work as its sensitive so light will still penetrate the snow on top and the sides could not have snow which could not stick to the sides owing to gravity.
Hi. I am struggling with the wiring of my day night switch. Can I email you? Thanks.
Rough workmanship that install.
yes. principles same though

All that poorly fitted trunking, would let water in, it is best to use the correct outdoor fittings for this kind of work and not the ones shown here.
doesn't leak, many rains.
How many MOA photocell for 250 words
MOA?
Doesn't matter how I install the LED lights down go on
Please help... Exact same sensor. Ive attached both red wires on each side. Live and load.... am have an extra black wire... The other iv attached the Center nutral port.
No black tape is used !!!
Talk colours please
Wow that is the roughest work I've ever seen. Twisting wires together and no tape or sheathing over it?? Someone is Gunna get hurt eventually!
i have seen worse
