Those are happy cows - you ca actually see them hop and frolic! Love It! Nothing wrong with our eventual food being so happy during their lives - just like we should be :)
I noticed how clean they were to. Often I see cows covered in God knows what and crammed into a barn. Much respect to Joel for his family's dedication to all elements of life.
My grandfather was a Brahman breeder in South Africa. I am 57 years old. Just watching this I can literally smell the farm and cattle! Oh and the malassa that was my sweeties as a child.
Absolutely beautiful! Amazing use and treatment of this herd. This man has given you and all of your viewers an opportunity to have an amazing life, giving life in the circle of life. You need your herd! It doesn't have to be huge. You can do it!
I live in the midwest and my uncle is the only farmer left in the family. I wish I could get him to watch these videos as he is stuck in the corn/soybean rut and has been for years. In good years he pays off debts in bad years he rides the edge of bankruptcy. If his wife didn't work off the farm as a nurse he would have lost everything during the farm crisis of the 80's, I don't think everything Polyface does would be a good fit, but I think diversifying would help immensely.
Mike, your confidence is contagious. And true confidence is based in humility and generosity. You fit the bill, man. So awesome; favorite part was the interview with the steward at the end. She was so relaxed and genuine as you interviewed her. Great job!
Great vlog y’all! So much knowledge that can help any farmer/homesteader know matter the size of your land or your livestock. It’s all about the soil. So many species of life growing on that soil.
Much thanks to The Fit Farmer. Without you guys traveling to different farms. I would never heard his story or thoughts. I learned alot from Poly Farms. Keep up the great work.
I am so jealous of this trip you took to Polyface. I live in Washington State so I will likely never make it there. Thanks for letting me see your personal experiences there.
We are going to move 5 with this practice this year, our first time raising cows ,with a little experience, really looking forward to seeing the results, bringing a farm back to life that's been not working for several years wish us prosperity,Thank you for a great presentation
Amazing video! Always a treat to see Joel Salatin! I would love to get the opportunity to visit Polyface farms. You guys are so blessed! 💚💜❤️🧡💙 stay blessed and happy.
Great job with the video. He is just so full of information I don't know how many videos you can get from him but it's a lot. I love the simplicity of his farming models with all the animals by letting them do the work. Keep up the good work and God bless you all
Mike, I just love learning from Joel about their methods of farming. Everything makes so much more sense than doing things the conventional way. Thank you for all of the videos you made when you and the family visited Polyface farm.
Love seeing the cattle. One day I need to invest in Joel’s books, like...all of them. There is another channel teaching MiG - managed intensive grazing. It’s Greg Judy Regenerative Rancher. His almost daily videos make you feel you really get to know his herd.
Can you do more swine/cattle on pasture videos? I’m not only learning so much but having a great time watching all the while! Thank you so much and God bless you for allowing us with such wonderful information! ✝️
Hey! Has anybody tried Joel’s methods in Colorado? The landscape from VA to CO is vastly different, but the principles seem like they’d work even in more arid and snowy climates. I’m trying to implement them here in the Rockies. Hope to hear from someone soon!
It would be highly interesting to see how his cattle would do with a free choice mineral with a cafeteria style feeder. It would be awesome to see how his pastures would diversify with the mineral correction too.
Great video. Got to check out Joel's place. Beautiful farm. Got to get mine some day soon. Am I the only one that is shocked that one of the oldest, most simple things in life( farming and caring for land) is nearly unattainable these days? Like where have we gone wrong? Countless people dream of doing what there great grandparents did, and in the end for so many, that's all it is ..a dream....idk ...irony is horrible. Good luck and keep it up
Check out videos by Gabe Brown. He lives and ranches in N. Dakota so I believe the rainfall is similar. He likes to say “it’s not how much rain you get but but how much you retain in the soil”. His emphasis is soil health, which translates to plant health, which translates to animal health. Hope you enjoy his videos.
Hi! I'm curious, ¿how much time would you say it takes to move all your animals from one paddock to another? thank you for explaining everything in such detail!
The sound of homesteading! Hey Mike, I noticed my clover leaves have a tiny worm, eating between the leaf layers, making it look like a thin plastic opaque layer. And clues to what to do? I mowed and tossed my clippings (instead of composting), but there are many left that were not tall enough for the mower.
Great video thanks for uploading. Just wondering how the chickens following the cows after 4 days effect the growth of the grass? Won't they then take it down too far??
I really enjoy watching you & your family .. I have to get this off my chest .. As a recent subscriber I listened to your suggestion that people should get outside .. As a 69 yr. old male w/underlying health issues I think it would be prudent if you didn't mention your opinions regarding the virus on your channel until you have your MD or PHD in Epidemiology! Someone that trusts you may end up getting sick .. I wish you the best of luck .. Mitch
I hope you enjoyed my childhood neighborhood. Joel and I were next door neighbors as kids. I could see my homeplace in your video. Thank you!
I think so too

It's so impressive to see animals doing what they have always done & treated with compassion

Thanks for sharing that memory!

❤❤ its nice job for farming
Joel has such a grateful heart for what God has created and provided. His passion is contagious..thanks for this refreshing video.
I love what he said about how wonderful it is being able to make so many animals happy every day
And no TV to influence them

Mike, I missed this video when you first posted it. Fortunately, you've captured eternal wisdom and delight. Wonderful any time! Thank you, man.

@4:36 that was amazing how they followed his call. Wow
Great vlog y’all! So much knowledge that can help any farmer/homesteader know matter the size of your land or your livestock. It’s all about the soil. So many species of life growing on that soil.
The herd moving on to the new pasture is absolutely AMAZING!

Beautiful bovine.
I love Joel’s farm! He has taught us so much! We’re getting cows in January and this is very good information to have! Thank you Mike!❤️
I love what Joel is doing, but You need to check out Greg Judy at Green Pastures Farm if you haven't yet !
@@aw4088 I’ve followed Greg for a long time. He’s awesome too!

Love the sounds of cows pruning!
Love his comment that cows are not influenced from others and don’t watch TV. Cattle are smart - so use it to your advantage. Very inspirational
The sounds of them eating is nice sounds to hear. Happy chewing cow sounds.
Amazing video! Always a treat to see Joel Salatin! I would love to get the opportunity to visit Polyface farms. You guys are so blessed! 💚💜❤️🧡💙 stay blessed and happy.
So much more beautiful and peaceful than asphalt and concrete ! God's nature can't be surpassed ! Good video ! God Bless !!!

Absolutely love these videos, thanks for sharing this very cool experience! You look happy as a clam out there in those fields!
We are so glad that you enjoy them! We had such a wonderful time at Polyface.

That was so relaxing and informative. You are a really good interviewer. I could hear the kids having a blast in the background. Good piece!
Thank you for sharing another great video from Polyface Farm. I love the whold series you are doing! Happy cows live in Virginia
Loving the sounds of the cows. So peaceful. 😀
Very clean and healthy looking cattle!
Subscribed! Joel is the sustainable & regenerative leader & America is better for him doing what he does!
It is amazing. He has made such a contribution to the world.
This man reminds me so much of my father. What a wonderful man.
Great video, Mike. Thank you.
Love that all he has to do is the cow equivalent of "pspspsps kitty kitty" to get them to move, lol.
No kidding! Impressive!
Wow God made a beautiful place.
Love getting to see your perspective of PolyFace. Thanks for sharing!
Love the way that Joel brings everything together right down to the nutrient mix %.s.
Always great to gather fresh info from others to see how it might work for you... even if not the exact way.
Have a good evening 🌻🌻🌻
Joel Salatin the modern-day Moses of ranching.
Watched this twice now, once when it came out last year and then again today. Brilliant video, great stuff Mike.
Thank you!!
Love seeing the cattle. One day I need to invest in Joel’s books, like...all of them.

We want to visit Greg Judy too!
You're the best interviewer of Joel I have seen. I hope there is plenty more to come 👍So nice see happy healthy cattle in nature.
This may be our last video out of our visit there. We were only there a day and a half and that turned into 5 videos.
@@MikeTheFitFarmer well, great job and Im sure you will visit again.
This is an awesome video. This is the reason why we got into homesteading because of this great community. Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful! So great what he has done!
Love gleaning knowledge from Mr. Salatin. Very interesting man.
TFS Mike and Co. 💕
Thank you for sharing yalls visit to polyface. I’ve enjoyed all these videos. Can’t wait to see what you implement on your farm from what you learned.
Can you do more swine/cattle on pasture videos? I’m not only learning so much but having a great time watching all the while! Thank you so much and God bless you for allowing us with such wonderful information! ✝️
So interesting. I am trying to introduce Scott's friend who has our cows on his farm these technics.
A Happy Place and a neat place to Visit looks like. Thank You Mike.
This is exactly what we needed after tonight...
Very good, the knowledge and experience is priceless!

Nice recording bud. Really enjoyed watching thank you!
Absolutely incredible.
Sir, you make some fine videos. Thank you. I look forward to visiting Polyface someday.
Beautiful looking cows!
Mr. Salatin is the common sense King!
Milling his own lumber -- Impressive!
Mike, Thanks for sharing this video.
Best wishes from Kate in Olympia, WA -- 9/28/2020
Everything there is impressive!! Years of work that has come together to do great things.
Does Joel have a book detailing the patters he uses for fence posts? This video is another gem. Thank you!
Probably 5/16ths fiberglass but some use rebar
❤❤❤ nice a habit
Wow, I really like this video. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful experience. Follow
Great video n love the music
field rotation is 1000s of years old tradition. am from stria and grew up with that in the 70ies.
Hey does Joel have a book that talks about how to set up paddocks for various animal operations and how to use electric wires? Thakns

Worked with rabbits and chicken tractors up in florissant.. turned scrub and thistle into grassy healthy yard in about 2 yrs.
Thanks for sharing
It would be highly interesting to see how his cattle would do with a free choice mineral with a cafeteria style feeder. It would be awesome to see how his pastures would diversify with the mineral correction too.
Read his books, they provide kelp, but the cows ignore most the other minerals as the soil improved.
Beautiful video.. big like 👍👍
Great one Mike!
Amazing stuff, Am subscribing dude.
Would like to go up there sometime. Fixing to start up a small operation like this. What do they do in the winter time? Does he plant stuff for them?
He has hay for them and brings them into the barn and has a system to compost their manure so it is a heat source for them in the winter.
Absolutely fantastic 😊
Very informative.

Wish I was 22 & just getting out of the Navy...
State of mind.
Good work
I dream of a pasture like that also but on 13 in of rain a year probably not here but I'm trying.

I don't know! Sorry I can't help.
Great video thanks for uploading. Just wondering how the chickens following the cows after 4 days effect the growth of the grass? Won't they then take it down too far??
How does that string keep them from pushing over to the next pasture? It's not electrified?
Wow! That was so interesting! And I can see why Joel is so popular among homesteaders. Polyface is definitely on my bucket list.
That is great!
How do the cattle know where the water and mineral located with that size of paddock.
They see him place the water and minerals, plus the new paddock is only an acre or so.
I thought that their sense of smell was very keen. They would be able to smell the water and minerals long before they needed to see them.
They walk the entire pasture multiple times looking for the grass they want then stumble upon the mineral. Plus they smell or see it placed, yes.
I am happy enough with a cheep ol cordwheel, seems ok so far
Enjoyed the video fascinating 😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
What's it like in winter with snow cover? Still need water? Do they get it from the snow? Just curious
You did a very good job interviewing! Hidden strength?
Maybe I missed it. How long until he returns the mob to an already grazed paddock?
Do you have to supplement with hay in the winter doing it this way?
I really enjoy watching you & your family .. I have to get this off my chest .. As a recent subscriber I listened to your suggestion that people should get outside .. What if they end up getting well? All of the things we suggest are taught by many medical Doctors and Epidemiologists just not the ones you see on TV.
