CORRECTION - sorry the Bombast Vox Array does the SAME order to three different units, so more for a coordinated formation than focused orders on the same squad!
Since Orks got orders guard needed the WAAAAAAGH seriously though this detachment doesn’t seen bad, just that it uses models that no guard player I know actually has. Better than a cavalry detachment, at least
I've been waiting for this Detatchement and it's glorious! It's so fluffy so lore rich can't wait to go mechanised infantry. Militarum Tempestus is my third army next to Dark Angels and Chaos Marines
I like using Lord Solar but I dislike being forced to use him. I was very happy to see the enhancements to replace two of his things(sort of). I don't think I'll play this detachment much but it gives me more hope for the codex and alternatives to using him.
For the "On my position", in my experience if your guard units is in melee with another unit, they're dead anyway, if that last guy takes 3d3 mortal wounds but kills a few dudes? Price well paid.
No matter what happens, you'll at least break even on wounds caused, if you're down to one guy. More likely, 3 to 4 mortals on the enemy, on average. If he's locked in combat with two enemy units, even better.
The way how I am reading the Bombast-Class Vox Array, it reads that you have to issue that SAME order to all 3 units, you can't give out separate orders. Correct me if I am wrong tho!
@@Kingofdragons117 I clicked on this to ask the same thing, I have no interest in watching a video about IG but am highly interested in watching a video about orks :)
I only have a few Scion units and I’m a bit sad about it only being tempestus scions/kasrkin as a main sub faction but honestly I like this a lot, can’t wait for my friend to charge my 5 man squad of scions with a tank and then CAS smoke it
Not sure how good or bad it will be running Solar in this detachment, but it would be hilarious to take him + Augury and redeploy 6 units. "You said their tank detachments were approaching from the LEFT flank!" "They were!" It makes me want to kitbash up a bunch of those cardboard decoy tanks from real life, made out of like old GW boxes and sprue bits and use those to deploy before the switch up.
As a Krieg player, unfortunately this detachment doesn't do much for me but I've been waiting for ages for a strat that lets me drop artillery on units in engagement range... because what good Krieg commander _wouldn't_ think twice about doing that? Praying the "On My Position" strat makes its way to general use in the codex.
This is the BEST! Guard nerfs habe ruined to classic guard playstyles and these brings them back! Pure infantry and mechanized guard look so promising with this.
I don’t think this detachment competes with the index detachment. But I think when the codex drops and we see a changed version of both the Combined Arms detachment and some of the datasheets, specifically the Scions, then it might be more competitive.
While it does support infantry and my favourite types of guard infantry, I still am a bit disappointed that there isn't a infantry regiment detachment coming. This is cool though.
Pretty disappointed. I only play guard. Don't have a massive interest in scions. I don't own any or any proxies. They don't fit my army. I was hoping for a more general abhumans and infantry detachment. Definitely feel left out of the party. I think I'll stick to born soldiers. I hope Scion enjoyers play the hek out of this. After the data slate feels a bit like being kicked while we're down.
You are getting your codex next month that'll have a ton of detachments that'll fit your army... these detachments are just to fill in gaps that the codex has/will leave, which for guard is a detachment for scions
Same. Afaik the preview didn’t suggest much love for infantry builds in the codex. I hope I’m wrong. In my world scions are their own army. They even had their own codex back in the day.
Love this, I was running 2 kasrkin with castellans to screen for 2 dorns supported by an enginseer each, and a singular tank commander. 2 basilisks sitting in the back, then 3 scions command squads each leading a unit of 10. This Detachment is amazing
My time has come. That said, I'm fairly sure you're incorrect about the bombast vox. It can't let you issue two orders to a single unit and then another order to a third. It lets you issue the same order to up to three total units.
Great video AT. Im not a big fan of this detachment as I only have a fw old storm trooper models 😢. But it could be fun for a campaign game where guard units are dropped by gunship etc.
"Bombast-Class vox-array". Because of what word this sounds like in my language, I am now picturing a voice caster on rails the size of an artillery cannon, with a crew to aim its deafening orders towards the good direction. Thank you, GW.
Super meh imho... most of the strats are mediocre at best (especially with the lack of reinforcements) , +1 to wound on one turn only is not as good as always getting lethal hits in the vast majority of cases, and nearly zero synergy with anything but tempestus the enhancements are quite nice but I don't think it's nearly enough As of now the combined arms detachment is better in almost every way... even when running a full scions skew
So thankful for this, I love Tempestus, outside of a mostly vehicle-centric list my troops are always Tempestus. The ability to have 5 squads in deepstrike to put anywhere needed is so incredibly useful.
Love this. A lot of fluffy stuff and they also paid attention to smaller things. Like adding an overal infantry buff or giving a nod to Kasarkin. Biggest take away for me is that wound roll buff. It always felt bad to me how there wasn´t really a viable infantry option to challenge vehicles. The buff equates to a 50% dmg buff against high thoughness targets with plasma/melta. In fact a full scion squad for 190 points has a good chance to take out a leman russ in one volley. Kind of expect a nerve coming since they can do this out of deep strike but I guess it could balance out with how easy they are to clear in return. I already see some potentially wild combos where you drop three full scion squads all with double orders. Also the redoply strategem combined with the vox array means that you can easily give out orders to scions from deep strike every turn you want. So many fun ideas arleady. :D
I'm more than a little disappointed that we got this rather than a Renegade Guard detachment. It's daft that there's still no good way to play a Traitor Guard force when they're such a big factor in the lore.
@B__C__ IIRC they've already revealed the names of the detachments for the Codex, or at least what each one is about has been revealed, and none of them is Traitors.
Why would they have a detachment for a completely different faction... thats like asking for a chaos space marine detachment to be added to the regular space marine codex. If theres gonna ever be one (outside of them getting their own codex) it'll be in one of the chaos codexes not astra militarum (and you can make a pretty good aproximation with the chaos cult detachment in CSM)
@@Swampert919 A Renegade Marine detachment is, coincidentally, exactly something else we should have. At the moment the instant a Marine Chapter turns Renegade their entire arsenal completely changes. Both a Renegade Guard and Marine detachment would involve their core Codex units but with keyword changes, and different ally options (i.e Chaos Knights and Daemons). As such, it's far easier to do as a variant detachment than as a Codex which would mostly just be reprints of loyalist stuff.
@@Majere613 theres already a codex for renegade marines its the CSM codex... why would they print a detachment that's already being done. And again it makes a lot more sense for them to add a traitor guard detachment to chaos space marines than to astra militarum... theyve already got traitor guardsmen just give them access to some allied guard vehicles and youve got the detachement.
It feels very one-dimensional, unfortunately. Scion blob just comes down, kills anything, then goes back into reserve to do it again next turn. Great fun. /s Great against armies who lack deepstrike denial, like Custodes and other elite factions, but will have difficult matchups against horde armies. I don't think the re-roll 1s will matter much for abhuman troops, since we can already get access to it via Scout Sentinels.

"Fire and Relocate" feels like such a weird name for an advance and shoot stratagem rather than a move-shoot-move stratagem.
Real
Would have been better to even just flip it to Relocate and Fire.
A close real phrase is "Fire and Maneuver", not sure why they didn't use that...
Reminds me of, “ready, fire, aim.” 😂
I thought this as well. if it was called "Relocate and Fire", it might have worked.
“On my position” seems fun as hell
Agreed! Seems like a fun stratagem to use if you start loosing an OBJ.
I feel like one has to say "For the record, it's my call!" every time this stratagem is used.

At the moment born soldiers still offers more flexibility and lethality, even for a full scions list.
Might be worth revisiting when the codex drops.
The detachment rule is worse, but the strats and enhancements carry this over the index one for Scions imo
18:04 Bombast Vox Array only lets you give the _same_ order to up to 3 units. It doesn't give the ability to give 3 seperate orders.
Super fun! Especially the ‘On my position’ strategem.
