‘ Blood transfusion exhibitions’-what an interesting phrase. I hadn’t fully realised the implication of ‘equivalence’ implied by setting contemporary and classical works together.
The remark on Marx is absolutely right, an academic that holds his dichotomy today has to be ashamed. Every worker is also a burgueois today, inclusive the marxist academics. YOu can regard these as general aspects of the same, but the marxist see this as separeted substances.
I follow these posts with interest as an artist. Even emailed the school myself looking for any opportunity last year to study but, got no reply. Think my email started with" been drawing all my life" so (laughing) I fell at the first hurdle. I am firmly at odds with some of the views but determined not to let it get in the way of the information passed on about Greco roman tradition.. I get exasperated when, on more than one occasion things jump to Marxism or woke subject matter from talking about painting previously. I will keep my eyes on these posts, as I think it indicative of a far right political resurgence in current times as well as an informative text on painting. What a strange time we live in eh? Am not for a minute saying that any of you are far right politically (although you might be) but by, using the language of certain thinkers you are to me shining a light on what is to come. . Please don't put me in a caricature leftist box either, my UK art school experience was one you would relate to and left many of us searching for knowledge after. Perhaps Marx would agree with me that the state art schools are denying working class people of working with their hands and tapping into a flow of the craft. Figurative art is now a preservation of the middle class and to those that can afford it.
Muchas gracias colegas 🙏🙌
Art is a portal to a feeling...
