UPDATE: With the measurements I stated in the video, you should use a 91% or stronger alcohol solution to be effective (I mistakenly said/showed 70%). Thx for your comments!
I hope this video is helpful for y’all! I wanted to also show you how to make homemade Aloe Vera Gel because most of the DIY Hand Sanitizer videos on UA-cam were using store bought aloe vera gel, which is now being sold out in stores and online plus its MUCH cheaper to make your own... Stay safe everyone!💖💖💖
You need to soak the aloe Vera leaf overnight in water to remove toxins. After soaking the leave overnight the water will be brown. Discard the water and soak the leave again until the water comes out clear. About two hours.
Nice work! I'm thinking of doing this too though stores in my area don't carry aloe 😭. May I humbly suggest that you use 90%(or more) isopropyl alcohol because if you add the aloe and essential oils it will dilute the alcohol further down to less than 60% ,the effective alcohol ratio to break up bacteria and viruses. Or maybe use less aloe and essential oils to keep the alcohol concentration at or above 60%. Can't wait for your other concoctions!
This is the best (I've watched several) - just remember, USE 91% ISOPROPYL (OR DENATURED ETHYL) ALCOHOL (not 70%). Excellent video, simple and easy to follow directions, excellent result!!
THE ALCOHOL PERCENT NEEDS TO BE 91% AT LEAST to get you to 60% alcohol. I know you have a lot of views but it's unlikely people will be looking in the comments during panic mode. I would put a comment/disclaimer window on your video & in the title so people read that first and aren't running around with a 50% solution and spreading germs.
@@elizabethroblyn1392 hi ! 90 % you can do 1/3 aloe vera or glycerin and 2/3 90 % alcohol . I do half aloe and half glycerin in the 1/3 mixture it feels better on hands .
Was searching for a BRIEF how-to video to recommend to people, but many were over 10 minutes long. I was even tempted to make my own video, but the UA-cam algorithm wouldn't have suggested it so it wouldn't have helped anyone. Anyway, *THANK YOU* for posting this important info! (Also, thanks for correcting the % alcohol needed.) Stay healthy everyone!
I've been looking for a quick, easy, precise video on how to make hand sanitizer from a plant, and the ones I've so far found were over 10 minutes! I don't have that attention span or time haha! Your video was perfect, thank you!
Been looking for a video that shows how to make aloe Vera gel since I haven’t had lucky finding any but have a plant at home! Definitely will be following your steps to make my own. Quick question; How long will this diy hand sanitizer stay good for?
11-27-20: I love the idea of this recipe, but if you want to add a little something extra, especially for those with dry skin like me, try adding some Vitamin E oil.
I loove this video! ❤❤❤ I have handmade boric acid capsules for women who struggle with yeast infections and Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) I'm excited to see where this journey takes me...😁
I believe the final concentration for this recipe would be around 48% alcohol. You'd want the final concentration of 60-95% alcohol. Here's a informative video on making your own hand sanitizer and the science behind it. Michelle has a Phd in chemistry even made a spreadsheet that you can use to insert a recipe. Lab Muffin Beauty Science: ua-cam.com/video/WVvtF5uOX3Q/v-deo.html
Furthering on this point, the higher the alcohol content past 60%, the quicker it dissolves on your hands... which is not good for killing germs. You want it to be wet on your hands and take time dissolving, so getting it as close to 60 is perfect... maybe a little over, obviously, rather than under.
Use either 91% or 99% isopropyl rubbing alcohol, found at most chain drugstores. Less than 91% alcohol, and you do NOT have a hand gel that is actually a disinfectant against this virus.
This is great advice. When processing the aloe get yourself, you need to avoid the aloin (thought to be carcinogenic or allergen). A safe bet for those who don't want to process their own is to find a cosmeceutical grade aloe like the 10X-D.
You used 70 % alcohol then mixed it at a ratio of 2 to 1. This has now made you total ABV aprox 46 %. Sanitiser need to be above 60% to work. This will NOT work. You need to use a higher % alcohol before you dilute it with aloe
Aloe vera is supposed to be refrigerated. Is it the alcohol that preserves it in this recipe? How long is the shelf life? Does anyone know a way to use an essential oil such as thyme in place of the alcohol without the aloe vera going bad?
If u want to give a gel effect by using aloe vera gel, sanitizer gets STICKY after drying. I used 90% alcohol ,oils and just5 percent aloevera. It was fine then.
I tried it with the aloe juice and it won't yield the gel-like texture for a hand sanitizer. However, you can put it in a spray bottle and spray in onto your hands.
If am to make 1litre of hand sanitizer using Isopropyl alcohol 88.02%, what measurement should I use for the fresh aloe vera gel and the alcohol to get 1.litre
if you can find store bought aloe gel, then that's fine... but I tried it with the store bought aloe juice and it was too thin. The aloe juice could work as a spray sanitizer but if you want that gel-like texture, you need to use either store bought aloe gel or homemade gel. Hope this helps!
91% is the lowest you should go. Once you mix it with aloe, the percentage goes down to around 70% so you’re already losing some. If you use 50% you might as well just wash your hands because it will do nothing for you besides dry them out
UPDATE: With the measurements I stated in the video, you should use a 91% or stronger alcohol solution to be effective (I mistakenly said/showed 70%). Thx for your comments!
Thanks you for the update! Not only did you say 70% you showed the 70% v/v isopropyl alcohol bottle at 2:10. People's health is at risk! 😍
@@ExclusivelyOge They've always lasted me about 6-12 months.
Have you had any trouble with the gel and the alcohol separating?
Can you use any type of aloe vera

Kayla Chandler what would the measurements be if we used aloe vera from a bottle?
I made something like this. Why did my aloe vera go dark after the second day. Then it STUNK!!
Kayla Chandler where did you get the oil from

Why I like this video-

⚠️ If you use 70% isopropyl alcohol... using your recipe the end product is 47% alcohol by volume. Please inform your viewers of this potential risk.
Correct using 70 % alcohol should be only adding less than 1/4 cup of aloe or glycerin her 1/3 aloe formulation is for alcohol 91,95,99 % .
I see these miscalculations everywhere on UA-cam. It’s quite alarming

Will the aloe Vera spoil or expire?
how long dose it stay like gel for? aloe gel when blended only stays like gel for an hour or so
My aloe vera gel keeps clumping up in the mix, even when i blend it

can u use a tad bit of water of help the aloe vera? its very hard to strain and you can hardly get enough out of the leaf when its blended
did you blend the aloe first before straining it?
Do your hand have a bitter taste from the natural aloe vera

All I have is a bottle of 50% rubbing alcohol, is that useless or is there a way for me to use it as some sort of rubbing sanitizer ?
Must be at least 60, my friend.
If it's that or nothing, I think it wouldn't hurt to use it over nothing. But you wanna get something that lets you have 60%.
How long does it last?🤔
How long does it las(life span)
What are the materials can u listed it ma'am
I did this but the smell from the alchohol was way to strong any tips?
Where can I buy aloe vera leaves?
I can't find any aloe Vera plants any where is it ok to use store bought aloe Vera ? Will it affect the sanitizer ?

Will the real aloe Vera gel go bad or does the alcohol preserve it?
I've tested it before and found that the alcohol preserves it for up to 12 months, but I usually use mine up by then anyway.
