Ah ha I was looking for this or a similar comment. Welcome back Frank.
Batmans Crime fighting ethos went from "Not even one." To "Cripples commit less crime." Real quickly.
I really don`t like Batman V Superman even if I ignore Zack missing the whole point of the two characters. Trying to Ape the Fight between them from the Dark Knight Returns really did not work when there is no history between them in that world. The ''Death of Superman'' part does not feel earned as well. There is no reason for people in that world to really miss Snyder`s Superman. Maybe it`s my Nostalgia talking but the "World's Finest'' crossover from the animate universe is way better.
I think Batman/Superman animated film While starting while they are already friends was just the best when it came to their dynamic.
I think _World's Finest_ was empirically a great crossover story. It isn't just nostalgia. The two scenes where they discover one another's identity is the best job anyone has ever done with their rivalry.
"MOSSBERG!?!? WHY DID YOU SAY THAT NAME!?!?"
Something missed in a lot of peoples reading of this film is that when Superman came to earth it changed Batman's entire worldview and perspective, I'd imagine if God's could level city blocks in minutes, your moral code about how you handle street level criminals would seem pretty frivolous at that point, the whole point of the movie is man meeting gods, it's a huge theme in the movie even with Lex Luther's character. Hugely underatted film imo.
The big problem with this is that it makes Batman into an anti-hero, instead of a true hero. Heroes stick to their codes regardless of what the world has to say. To save even a single life is not "frivolous" to a hero, regardless of how many people Superman can kill as a matter of course
I felt the only reason Batman and Superman were fighting in Bats v Supes was because the scripts said so.
bats was given a decent reason
Maybe you should watch the setup and employ thoughts rather than feels.
Basically, yes.
Man of Steel is probably one of the best DC films ever. Opinion disregarded.
(I loved the extended cut of BVS but MoS was such a clean origin story and so well done.)
I prefer Superman 2, Batman Returns, Watchmen, and The Suicide Squad.
Sure, until you realize that Superman basically committed multiple 9/11s in that movie lol
@@ryngobrody1627 That was my issue with the film too. The paragon of virtue, because that's what Superman is as a character, easily has a 6 figure body count in a single afternoon. It's possibly 7 figure. The whole paragon thing is kinda impossible after that.
@@ryngobrody1627 What's wrong with that? The movie is literally about God's weilding power and the consequences of man's meeting with God's, makes perfect sense to me.
Because it totally trashes the character? Think when you get a whole remake of something you liked; all the morals, the motivations, the meat of the character is perverted, anything that remains is left a hollow shell by the new storytellers putting their spin on it. That’s what man of steel is to a lot of superman fans.
Man of steel was great; BvS was a mess; it had some cool moment (warehouse fight) but it was a massive mess story wise. MoS clearly showed how a young Superman’s loneliness and learning to be the morale icon he as destine to be
Back in the 60s Batman carried a gun. If I recall, it was a .45 in a yellow holster. Also pretty sure that in the original early stories he carried two pistols...
Early versions of Batman had him blowing up bad guys with dynamite, throwing them from buildings and breaking neck like Lizzo breaks thongs.
So this version could just be returning to form due to being black pilled.
@@tonyhudson8235 The earliest version even had him wearing a red scarf and carrying twin Uzis or a Tommy gun
Well, he's a Shadow ripoff so...
Yeah, the early black &white film serials had him wearing two .45's and driving a DeSoto.

Smart person written by Schneider (I actually kind of think of him as our generations Hitchcock, just not as smart)
Zach Snyder didn’t write Batman V Superman. He only directed it.
It was written by Chris Terrio and David S Goyer. The latter wrote blade, dark knight trilogy and Man of Steel.
Snyder first DCU writing credit was actually Wonder Woman. He also wrote the script to justice leagues

Man of Steel & BvS (UE) are excellent stories about masculinity in a world that has a disdain for it. Don’t let late-2000s Snyder hate blind you.

I've not seen this film, but I remember watching a screening of the animated film-length pilot to the Justice League cartoon at a DragonCon waaaay back in '02. I remember thinking it's weird to hear Kevin Conroy be the "There's only room for one" kinda guy.
300 had a lot of creative freedom allowed to it, it was a fantastical thriller movie version of a moment in history. I enjoyed it immensely.

We're praising Hollywood now? Truly this is the lowering of the bar of all time.
Dont be childish, no one is always wrong.
This is just petty. Critique it on things it actually gets wrong, not where it comes from. Even Karl Marx was based on guns, for example, even if the majority of his commentary is laughably bad.
4:30 I've never had a problem with Bruce killing regardless of the context because of detective comics #33 by Bob Kane and Bill Finger. Namely as 8 year old Bruce Wayne prays by his bed at night after watching his parents mercilessly get gun down in front of him, he promises on the spirit of his parents to spend the rest of his life in a war on criminals. No caveats about killing, nothing about guns being an issue with him... Just the war. While Popular culture has focused around the idea Bruce doesn't want to /should not kill. the original idea of batman was just the idea of the War, which is what I felt snyder captured right here.
Then he's just the punisher.
@@JesusProtects except he existed before punisher ,and was like that before the punisher ....
Holy crap! This was a damn good review 👏
I was skeptical before these movies came out, but I very much enjoyed man of steel, Batman vs. Superman, and even Justice league
That man say Batman v Superman was a miracle?
Alright, to each their own I reckon.
Love you guys but have to HARD disagree on this one. I liked how Affleck looked as Batman kind of, but if you have Batman intentionally kill anyone under any circumstances it fundamentally breaks the entire point of his character and the psychology behind it. It just doesn’t work
In some aspects; yes,
Others; no.
It breaks the mainstream version of Batman, but there are many alternate batman stories that has him be more pragmatic and dark.
It kills the moral justification for Batman, but it breathes life into some exploratory stories.
The movie is one of the bad examples of Batman killing people, it doesn't add to the story.
@@Ganbalf Killing Joker: Good; might even save the whole planet
Killing Grunt #2 = Bad; Batman just killed a fellow mentally ill person
@@Ganbalf Yes, although typically, if you do have Batman break his one rule, he either has to retire from being Batman as a result, or accept that his character is no longer the same, and has been fundamentally changed and corrupted in some way. He'd no longer be Batman the moment he kills because Batman doesn't kill. Harry and Conner approaching this from what a typical, sane and rationale human would do if they'd been through what Batman has been through is misguided. Yes, a normal person would probably resort to killing the worst kinds of criminals if they saw them only return to crime and lead to more innocent deaths. A normal person would kill the evil man that murdered their son, but Bruce Wayne is not normal or sane. His rule of not killing is the only thing keeping him somewhat sane and functioning in the role of Batman enough to tell himself that he's doing the right thing. If he breaks that, he loses that tether. This is what makes the dichotomy between Batman and a character like Jason Todd so interesting. As where Jason is correct and morally justified in killing the worst ireedeemable criminals in Gotham, unlike Batman he is (ironically) more sane, and has a sane moral compass that justifies killing some and not others. Batman himself recognizes that he would be incapable of making those distinctions, because he knows that fundamentally he is one kill away from breaking entirely. Anyway, it really is just my interpretation, although I do believe it to be the one that is most cohesive with Batman's character, and why Batman V Superman pissed me off so much.
"...breaks the entire point of his character and the psychology behind it..." Sorry, no. Batman was originally a reworking of _The Shadow._ He carried two pistols in the early stories and had no reluctance in using them. In the late 50s-early 60s comics he carried a .45 in a yellow holster as I recall. Batman didn't didn't become a "peacenik" (I know I'm misusing the term, but you know what I mean) until the late 60s, when DC started trying to appeal to the new generation of "hippies"...
@@_XR40_ I would say Batman has grown into his own character after all it's been a lot of stories and writers.
in no universe is Batman V Superman better than Man of Steel.
I'm glad you two can enjoy it, but I disagree. Simple fix. Jason Todd as Red Hood, while Bruce is out of the city. Possibly recovering from serious injury, so he's been at it for years. Can still bring Batman in later, but you don't have to tone down the violence and you get a more dynamic character than Batfleck as portrayed. Though, you'd need to cut out Doosmday entirely. Snyder blew his load too quick with that.
There is so much more character and plot depth in the Ultimate edition, and even the flow makes it feels like a different picture.
Affleck is amazing and for me, the closest we have had to Bruce Wayne thus far.
As batman, and specifically in the warehouse scene, that is Batman! Huge, savage, breaking arms and inspiring fear in criminals.
Everybody losing their minds about Batman not killing, when we have the avengers cracking jokes whilst the universe is at stake. Really???
Put simply his no kill rule is integral to his character. Showing a fine line. Vigilantes who are judge jury and executioner is not something you want. Maybe it’d be better if it was with the flashpoint universe but the excuse to enable him and others to kill is just laziness rather than a cultural move.
This is one of the few superhero movies I wasn't bored watching. It's rare for me. I think the only main problem I have with it is that it's too full of action points. There's so much going on that there's no time for plot. In a proper movie you need to balance action with plot. You can't just have one action scene after the other with no brakes or stops.
Glad I agree with Connor on BatKilmer.
Batman kills bad guys, he does not murder. Murders are unjustified killings.
Um… that’s some leftist logic right there…
@umiluv Batman kills people who are trying to kill him. Clear cut self defense. No lefty logic here.
Some criminals you just CAN'T jail...
I've always hated when people said "but batman doesn't kill people" are quick to forget that Tim Burton batman killed countless amounts of people
And that version, while entertaining, has always been critiqued for not being true to the character.
I've always liked Nolans interpretation, he's not an executioner, when a criminal is apprehended and now at your mercy and you kill him, you are executing him, but if you are doing battle and in an act of defense or collateral damage you are killed, that is an impulsive life saving act, it's completely different than an execution, so I'm completely fine with the war like attitude of Batman, especially Snyders Batman who has lost control when God's came to earth.
They kinda did Clark's dad dirty in Man of Steel.
I hope they talk about Gal Gadot's Wonderwoman as well.
Batman did use yo carry a gin in the earlier runs, way back in the day, but dc decided to take this out later on. Its also called back on in flashpoint with the thomas Wayne batman being a more punisher style batman.
Damn your right about early Batman and flash-point's Thomas Wayne was brutal as the Batman.
i prefer the animated movies for batman returns and their vs.
I thought the brand was more of an indicator that a person squealed to Batman and well criminals don't take kindly to snitches
I was thinking it was more like branding the criminal showing others he's being stalked by Batman and is a liability. Batman wouldn't go to the trouble if the person just informed because that's incentive to not inform! Also Batman would be buying into the criminal's perspective doing that to mark the finks.
The punch at 2:10 is glorious, Ill disagree with Harry about Man of Steel, the single camera action scenes coupled with the lack of slow motion make the fights feel powerful and give a good contrast to the Humans in the movie, (the Smallville fight scene come to mind when Faora is fighting all the Marines and Namek is going after the Warthogs) but that's just like my opinion man.
keep up all the good work Lotus Eaters
The ultimate cut of BvS is one of my favorite movies, the theatrical cut is unwatchable dreck. Frank Millar's influence just drips off this movie. You can tell that Zack is a comic book fan from the 80's and 90's.
While I may not care for the plot, I'm going to miss Ben Affleck and Henry cavill as their roles.
Guess it's time to watch the Snyder cut if only to annoy these people
I really appreciate the Batman V Superman praise. That movie got shit on so hard when it came out, and I never fully understood why. Yeah it wasn’t perfect, no movie is. But it wasn’t the train wreck everyone portrayed it to be.
Because it was a confusing mess, a failure in editing and headache inducing in its execution. It's painful to see people think Snyder is in any way good when his work is edited as if it was Michael Bay all along.
@@gandalf8216 You calling it a “confusing mess” is as absurd to me as someone calling it a “flawless masterpiece.” Both are extreme ends of the spectrum that I think are incorrect. It has its problems, but it also has its positives. That’s my opinion
@Kewl it got bashed because it was a tussle between Disney and WB and Disney was bigger and stronger, Geoff Johns and another WB exec were in on it and were leaking script details after MoS. When they found out they were going towards Dardseid, which would've been very much the same as Thanos and Endgame, the media pile-on began, "grimdark" Twitter bots and so forth, then when it came out the critics bashing it but giving every atrocious recycled Disney movie with its one-dimensional quipping characters 99% "fresh" ratings. Now one might ask why they would care enough to do that, surely people would be happy to pay to see both versions of the story, and I'm not sure but suspect it has something to do with how the story is told. They surely crammed too much into BvS but it was epic, very masculine, full of pathos and intensity, for me the last good mainstream movie I've seen. Disney and now everyone is pretty much against all that and subverting any kind of traditional story-telling. So I think Snyder's story-arc could've still been made in the 2000s but by the 2010s the Hollywood narrative was going hard to clown world. It's just sad to see the fan boys that are still missing out on a fun movie, judging by some of the comments, unable to enjoy it on its own merits because the media got to them with the Batman no kill/it's so confusing/Martha! programming. At this point most of them probably can't admit they were played and stick to parroting that silliness.
I remember when all this stuff was for kids
That changed when Tim Burton did Batman. And that was back in the 90s so…. Those movies were definitely not for kids.
One thing people claim "Batman doesn't kill". They don't realize. Batman only stopped killing the main villain. Thugs, he has no issue. For years in Batman's early years. Batman straight up killed gangsters. Heck the original origins of Joker. Batman killed him. Then, DC decided to walk back all the killing. So had Batman doesn't kill as much as he did before and we have his Rogue Gallery. Well, not all of them. Some C List Villains were killed off. All because they were stupid.
Batman needs the Joker just as much as the Joker needs Batman. Many writers have done a great job noting how they are one in the same. What is a hero without a villain?
@@umiluv Well, Batman used to just be a crime fighter that kind of worked outside the law. Doing the work that law enforcement were unable to do. The Joker was just another criminal. Then, someone decided to make the Joker bigger. Well, the rest is history.
Well I sure hope Alfred of the caretakers in the isles did his job.
Have they done the snyder cut yet 🤔
Are you mad. Man of steel sh!ts all over BvsS
I have a few issues with Man of Steel, but I liked what they were going for with it. It was a very existentialist Superman, and I dug it. (Jonathan Kent made sense, but I still can't help but dislike a few scenes with him). All in all, I really enjoy it. BvS theatrical cut is almost incoherently plotted because of how the studio mandated it be edited at the last minute to fit it into more theatsrs. The Ultimate Edition is the true version of the film, and although there are still some aspects of the film I dislike, I can't help but be fascinated by it. There's a lot going for it, and there's practically a subgenre of comic book media UA-cam videos about how and why people have grown to appreciate the intricacies and eccentricities of BvS. The greatest disappointment is that we'll never get all of the answers to some of its mysteries because Snyder will never get to complete any version of the narrative he was developing, but in and of itself, I'm glad it's gotten some more appreciation in the years between "Josstice League" and Zack Snyder's Justice League. Keep going with the cultural commentaries, they're quite enjoyable!
_Loving_ the comments by the Beta Neckbeards that _zomg Batmun no yews gun dusn't kill!!!!1!_ . He absolutely did and does, right from the start of the series, including machine gunning people from the Batplane, and carrying and using multiple firearms, including in Dark Knight Returns. Flaunting your ignorance is a weak flex.
The warehouse scene is great, as is the one where he's striking from the darkness at the start, and there's absolutely no doubt that the casting for both Batman and Superman in that film was the most spot on we've ever gotten and Wonder Woman is decent, but practically everything else about that movie is just plain bad or borderline average at best in my opinion - Jesse Eisenberg's "Lex Luthor" is quite possibly the worst written and performed characters I've ever seen, and I cannot watch without my toes curling with the cringe.

You guys have got to learn to not talk over one another. There's no rush to get through the video, so take as much time as you need to say what you both want to say, and not be in such a hurry to make your next points over each other.
If you intend to tackle a broken Batman that's breaking his rule and putting his sanity into jeopardy, if you intend to tackle the death of Superman and the impact it would have on the world, if you intend to have a clash between the two most central heroic figures in the DC universe, you have to earn these things. Snyder rushing the to goalpost did nothing to earn this. Batman is introduced pre-broken and it's expositioned to us that he's at the end of a dark path with nothing to contrast with, Superman is a strange alien who the audience has little connection to beyond plowing through buildings, and the clash between the two could barely be considered an ideological one like that present in DKR but instead one of contrivance.
All these stories and moments that could have been explored with care and dedication were it not for WB's greed in catching up to Disney and Snyder's arrogance in thinking he could just create a whole mythos out of these 3 films (4 if we count his initial plan for a 2-part JL). Say what you will about the sludge-pipe that is Marvel now, but by the 1st Avengers film they had taken far more time and care in building up the central characters, exploring the themes of the universe, and properly ramping up the stakes to keep audiences invested and satisfied.
And the Arkham games is ripped straight from the comics!
Guys, these movies are for kids, what's wrong with you? 😄

My only issue with Batfleck IS the fact he murders people. Batman murdering people completely contradicts why Batman is Batman. In someway, that's what makes him more of a hero than any of the other dark and gritty superheroes. Batman is a complex character and lives by a moral code. A moral code that is explored in many Batman medium such as where he decides not to kill and take revenge on the man who murdered his parents.
Yes, this is an older and rougher Batman, fine. But for him to be right at the end of his tether and to suddenly murder goons, is just so out of place. We have seen time and time again the Joker try to get Batman to break his one rule, to not kill, and they're usually the better stories. The question you've got to ask yourselves is why doesn't Batfleck just kill Joker and all his other villains?
Agree, a murderous Batman is different from The Punisher how, exactly?
Look, I don't normally care for these kinds of things, but I am fond of Batman, as well as most other imperfect super heroes out there. You convinced me to watch Batman vs. Superman... but I've got to say, despite it's strangely "prophetic" story in parts (oh, it's almost like they're prepping you for it), it's one of the largest pieces of crap I've seen in a long time. Thanks.
I couldn't disagree more about Affleck as Batman but I do have a personal dislike for the man so I admit I'm biased. Also any positives of BvS are overshadowed for me by the ludicrous story and the abysmal portrayal of Lex Luthor. Dear gods Eisenberg is so terrible in the movie and for that and his elitist outlook irl he will be forever mocked.
man of steel was a good movie but not BM v SM. man of steel and iron man are the two best origin story movies that have been made and they're kinda similar. not just the tirles but both of the movies villains come from in the family in a way also the love stories the world not being sure if they trust the hero the struggles with their fathers and just needing to understand with the adoring mother and they're both referred to as the prodigal son that carries the answer to the villains desire
These two need to start going to the movies together, so we can get a true modern day Siskel and Ebert Lotus style!
Carl and Callum have the book review cornered, these two can do the movie review
I love this idea.
What..!?!
Batman Forever is the best batman movie! Val Kilmer is the best batman/bruce wayne ever!
It's funny to read the constant comments of "Batman doesn't kill" in here, when it's simply not true. Batman has killed many times in the DC Universe, KGBeast being a brutal example of that. But he generally only does so as an absolute last resort. It was explained many times that he doesn't cross that line because if he did he didn't think he would be able to stop himself from becoming the greatest threat to the DC Universe, which is shown in many alternative versions of him. This is why it's always been a very last resort, because he's at least able to control that aspect. It should also be noted that he has absolutely no issue killing evil aliens or other non-humans, which he does on the regular.
This isn't to say that this version of him is normal. This is Batman with (almost) no restraints. This is a broken Batman who has lost empathy and is at a crossroads between becoming the Punisher and the Batman of old. And we see him choose the correct path at the end, in a very dumb way, yet one that also makes sense due to it reminding him of why he started this crusade and what he had become.
Also, beyond anything else, this is still a (slightly) more realistic take on comics, and its showing what would actually happen if Batman throws a wooden crate at a mans face. If you actually look at what Batman does in the comics, he's killed MANY people, or at least permanently crippled them, if we were to apply any amount of logic to it at all. Then again, this is a guy that had his back literally broken and recovered from it, not to mention fights a guy that is bullet proof, so logic generally takes a back seat.

"Batman does not kill", a video by HiTop films on UA-cam, does a good job explaining why Batman shouldnt kill. Its near equivilant to why spiderman shouldnt kill, it breaks the whole point of his character.
As bad as those movies were bungled, I've always maintained that BatFlek is BestBat - even tho Bale's movies were better and less painful to watch he didn't sell the Dark Knight as well as Afflek did.
This is my take too. BaleFlek falls down for me in part because they took too much of a vital aspect away from his character - his intellect and inventiveness - and handed it off to Lucius Fox, so that it feels a bit too much of a recreation of James Bond and Q for my liking.

Great chat, fellas. It’s nice to escape from time to time, away from our bleak and depressing world, into a comparably warm and lighthearted place - like the Snyderverse.
Yes, slightly suggested in the normal cut, but made explicit in the Ultimate Edition. Makes it all a lot clearer, and Luthor far more intelligent.

I honestly turned it off during the fight because I thought it was just boring. Don't like any of the characters.
Us not getting any more Henry Cavill as Superman is goddamn cinematic tragedy.
Ultimate cut is probably my favorite superhero movie.
I think Dark Knight was the last live action DC film that I didn't think was utter trash.
Idk I feel like them not being the superman and batman you recognize was kinda the point. The movies were meant to be their journey into becoming those characters. Did it nail the execution? Not quite, but that's the complaint that's always confused me. Like that was the point though.
They can’t become the characters people wanted if they start out this way, their morals are utterly compromised. to become the ‘canon’ versions in terms of this continuity Is to be a pair of total hypocrites.
Murder is the ONE THING Batman doesn't do. Come on, Man😆😆😆😆😆
The film is a masterpiece
I want to see a Batman movie with Patrick Bateman as the alter ego instead of Bruce Wayne.
First
After watching MoS, B Vs. S, and Justice League, it dawned on me that I despise Zack Snyder's "style."
The man has no clue what romantic chemistry is, and the conflict resolution between Batman and Superman was so dumb that it's like a child wrote it.
Henry Cavill was done dirty. He is a perfect fit but Snyder mishandled him. When every superhero gets a sequel or a trilogy, you seriously wander why there wasn't another Superman film with Henry Cavill.
Justice League doing a CGI lip for Cavill was also so dumb because I don't even understand why they re-shot those scenes.
The #ReleaseTheSnyderCut/#RestoreTheSnyderverse hashtags made me feel like I was taking crazy pills, because I couldn't understand how anyone could enjoy his films in earnest.
I love hate-watching things, but this wasn't even an enjoyable hatred, it was just wasted potential with ugly filters and unnecessary slow mo.
Batman killing people does not make sense since he is friends with commissioner Gordon. Reluctantly killing someone is fine, but just going ham on random muscle for hire just seems dumb.
I can tell someone is truly based when they recognize the greatness of BVS.
Was not a fan of BvS, the best parts were definitely whenever Batman was on screen. Batfleck needed a solo movie.
Afleck was worst Batman
