If I were an artist, I would do what she does in her videos - put my own spin on things. The same thing applies to writing. Even The Lord of the Rings is mostly Tolkien taking inspiration from various other myths and reskinning them into his tales and mixing them together. The original Star Wars films were heavily inspired by a mash up of Samurai films, old school sci-fi, swashbuckling films, and so forth. Instead of remaking those films, George used it as inspiration to make something new and great, much like Tolkien did in his work.
