It starts so intense with that beat and then that absolute *shit* CMI guitar sample comes in, and it’s suddenly a fantastic musical prank. Live forever, Devo.
"Imagine my thrill when they were covering 'Head Like a Hole,'" Reznor told Rolling Stone in 2005. "That thrill lasted right up to hearing the second bar! But they're still awesome." 😯
Not sure what Reznor was thinking when he found out Devo was covering this. This seems pretty straight on for a Devo interpretation. This song sort of feels like a crossroads version of a Weird Al meets NIN. But no hard feelings this is a neat take on that song.

Devo's cover songs were always like that. I just *love* the medley that ends the live album NOW IT CAN BE TOLD which includes "Somewhere" from WEST SIDE STORY.
Absolutely amazing. As an early 80s punk/alternative fan I can't believe a Black Mirror episode with Miley C. led me to this Devo cover I had no idea existed. Full circle. Hell Ya!!!!!!
Man this cover is so much fun, very Devo and the unique instrument choices in some places genuinely makes the instrumental sound like it could've come out of the original System Shock alongside Energy Systems.
I vaguely remember hearing this once on an alternative music station called The Revolution (104.7 FM, Pittsburgh) in the late 90s before Clear Channel bought it out and turned it into a country music station. They played all kinds of gems and weird stuff like this.
Really great. Its cool because NiN like Ministry before them exist because of the synth pop pioneers luke DEVO, Kraftwerk, Gary Numan, and Joy Division. Ministry actually having been aroind for the synth pop era and then being the first relevant industrial metal band maybe skinny puppy as well. Like the DEVO Girl You want cover BY soundgarden.

I used to love this cover when I was younger. I actually preferred this over the original. But as I got older, and got into industrial music, I'm not as fond of this cover as much but I still enjoy it for what it is
I heard a little soundbite on Lithium on Sirius. I had to check it out. The rhythm is just like the original. This version definitely has the Devo touch.

Josh Freese was damn incredible with NIN
I literally discovered this like 2 days ago, and all I can say is, how epic that both DEVO and Johnny Cash have made NIN covers?

I do like the poor guitar sound there by itself, too; I think it makes the track sound more dastardly wicked!

My vote is “Beautiful World” since Trent singing an anthem of post-modern irony is about as on-brand as the man gets.
Gotta go with "Jerkin Back And Forth" for NIN tô cover.
Gates of Steel
Devo was so ahead of its time not just the hats but the mask was universally in place by Mark.
They're timeless...
We need a Descendents and Devo tour called the Nerdgasim Tour 2022
But the catch is... each band performs as the other.
