  • Hi guys! ♡
    Today, I’m sharing my simplified version for the requested recipe for JAMAICAN STYLE SALTFISH (aka codfish)
    For the Ingredients, you’ll need:
    -1 pack of salt fish (12 oz)
    -1 medium onion, chopped
    -1 medium tomato, chopped
    -1/2 red AND green bell peppers, finely chopped
    -1 small piece of scotch bonnet pepper (omit if you don’t want the dish spicy, or add it after it's cooked like I did)
    -a generous amount of extra virgin olive oil (for frying both veggies & the saltfish)
    - a pinch of black pepper (to taste)
    I realize I forgot to add the scotch bonnet pepper after editing😅🤦🏽‍♀️ be sure to add it (per your preference)
    I hope you guys enjoyed this video!

    Hi Janiel, your video was the perfect one for me, I needed a refresh on this recipe I'm a full-grown Haitian man and it's been years since I didn't cook. After a few months with the covid-19, I come back on it. Then last night I decided to cook myself the codfish on white rice along with the red peas purée. Thanks for your clear and limpid explanations.

    I’ve used this recipe several times now! Thank you so much for your recipe... it’s simple and your video gets straight to the point! I add a bit of ketchup right before it’s done, to get rid of the oily taste. So bomb! Just sliced some avocado while I wait for my plantain to finish frying. Thank you again!! 🇦🇬🇦🇬🇦🇬

    I wanted a recipe without ackee and this looks delicious. Going to make this tonight. First time I've tried saltfish. I'm going to have it with dumplings. Edit: pinching the saltfish by hand is the best way if you have children or dont want to deal with the bones. Edit: Turned out delicious, I couldn't even taste the fish tbf.

    You soak it for 2 hrs then boil it? You took all the salt flavours out already
    Tip boil ur kettle pour the boiling water over the fish, leave until kettle boil again then on the 3rd boil only leave for 3 mins snd that's it
    Try my way, you never have to boil saltfish smelling up the place

  • @starrbright6423
    @starrbright6423 4 роки тому +1

    What if you don't have time to soak it for 2 hrs? Can you boil it for extra?

    • @cookingwithjaniel
      @cookingwithjaniel  4 роки тому +1

      Yes, you can boil it extra. But not too much to get rid of all the salt. You still want a bit of saltiness left in the dish.

    This looks so wonderful. I wonder if you have any idea what substitutions can be used tor the tomatoes and peppers. They are nightshade vegetables (as are potatoes) and people who suffer from gout attacks should avoid nightshade vegetables. Perhaps Daikon radish and mushrooms and carrots? I have never been a fish eater so really don't know what veggies would work. Thanks.
