    Picard is the father that Riker never had: sober, caring and talented. That is why he didn't want to become a captain. He didn't wanna leave "daddy" behind again.

    Riker actually still retains his Q powers, but does not know about it. That's how he gets away with things. Everyone is scared he'll erase them from history or worse, if they don't cater to his every whim. Q po Psycho Riko.

    I remember liking this episode when it aired. It certainly has it faults but I liked some of the elements of this episode; phaser blasts that werent super slow motion, a ship with stealth characteristics, seedy people at a bar and so forth. I did not recognize the actress from Star Trek III, good call.

    There are many reasons not to like these two episodes. The premise is absurd. Everyone acts out of character, even in ways that should be detectable in-universe. The mystery and tension are contrived. The entire thing depends on no one in the universe recognizing the most famous Starfleet crew. Even with all this, I still like these episodes. Maybe because it's finally something fun after the long slog so far through Season 7, which actually started at the end of S6 with a two-parter worse than this. I agree with a C+-ish rating, but it feels better than that for no good reason. Richard Lynch was a good casting choice; his scenes are fun.

      @@dycedargselderbrother5353 Not the same comparison. Also, there are how many Starfleet officers that have never met the crew of the enterprise? The only reason they would know what they look like is because of personnel files, which those outside of Starfleet don't have access to. There are how many Starfleet personnel also? would you really presume to recognize each and every one of them? No. Also, because the Enterprise crew isn't really the "head" of Starfleet.
      Consider also: How many times have you gone out and saw someone who looked like someone else? C'mon man

    I always thought it was odd that no one in the bar could tell what a transporter beam looks like - given the special effects we’ve seen, someone being vaporized and someone being transported usually looks very different (vaporized people tend to dissolve from the point where they were hit and disappear completely, whereas transported people tend to break into particles)

    • @NitpickingNerd

      maybe their transporter weapon was deliberately designed to make it look like it vaporizes the target . sort of how Sloan faked his death when he was "vaporized" and was actually transported

    What bothers me at the beginning is them using all kinds of OBVIOUS starfleet gear. You'd think if they were trying to pass themselves off as NOT starfleet, they would be using a variety of gear. A dated starfleet phaser, a klingon disruptor, a romulan tricorder, a nausicaan dagger, a ferengi communicator. A whole variety of gear to make it anything BUT obvious what organization they're from. You wanna look like a ragtag band of mercs or something, you gotta play it up. You think a Russian trying to do some kinda false flag op is gonna go in with an AK and an MP-443 wearing a ushanka hat after having some vodka and borscht?

    A funny mistake is rat boy says Picard is about 2 meters tall. 2 meters is about 6'7". The American writers probably didn't understand the metric system and assumed eh a meter is about the same as a yard so mistakingly thought 2 meters is close enough to 6 feet.

    • @macmcleod1188
      @macmcleod1188 Рік тому

      So they would say he is about 180 CM?
      That seems like referring to someone as being "about 70 inches" tall instead of saying 5'10".
      Oth, I get 2m is to imprecise and granular to be useful. Every one except children and little people are "about 2 meters" in height .

    I get why Nick doesn't like this. For me, it was such a forgettable episode that I have to struggle to remember the plot points when deciding whether it's good or bad. Just dull and forgettable with a fake death that fools no one and builds little suspense. The second part isn't any better from what I remember and has the lamest reveal regarding the superweapon, which completely kills any tension built up by this 2-parter. If you are going to do a 2 part episode, either tell an interesting story, or use it as an opportunity to make long term changes to the characters or the overall plot of the franchise. Neither happens here, just a ho-hum story stretched into two episodes because 'reasons'.
