For those asking, price starts at $2,699.00 and goes up from there by adding more filters or factory calibration.
ill take 2
Ummm....shouldn't they calibrate it before they sell it?
@@miker1473 lol
@Fast Freddy Muldoon It just takes a "snapshot" when you want to see it. Not an active spectrum scope like the Icom 7300. That was a turn off to me on the original Omni VII. The radio is nice but kind of obsolete if one wants a modern spectrum scope. I guess Ten Tek does not have the funds to build one that is similar to others. Looks like a great scope if one could live without the band scope. I guess a person could use a computer and monitor with SDR to show the bands that way.
I have never been a fan of Ten Tec, but this new radio could change my mind.
So glad to see Ten Tec at Hamvention ,,,made in the USA !
Good to hear that Ten Tec is still producing their fine product. All the best to the company and their staff.
Great video! Glad to see Ten Tec isn't going away!
Looks interesting.I have only had one Ten-Tec station but really liked it, consisting of a Omni VI plus a Titan 425 amp. Together they worked great. I traded them for an unbuilt K2 Elecraft because I was getting rid of everything and moving to another country 20 years ago. Later, I found out I could have shipped them with a lot less hassle than first estimates told me. I had traded a Collins S-Line with 30L-1 amp for the Ten-Tec and had excellent results with the Omni-Titan combo. What I liked just as much as the performance was the ease of working on them, just doing alignments and pm was easy with the good access to test points and service data available by very helpful people at the factory. I tended to search out old classic gear and refurb it so the Ten-Tec units were the first modern transceiver/amp and the first I did not have to modify. I wish them the best of luck and good sales. Currently still using the K2 and a TS-50s Kenwood but not on the air much anymore due to living in the middle of a large city and high noise levels and lack of roof access. I use them on bike or train trips to the woods and overnight lake camping where a wire antenna can be as long and high as the trees available. It is nice to see a US manufacturer remaining in the country, not many have. There were not many left 20 years ago when I moved to Eastern Europe so there surely are very few now.
Great video and informative re the NEW Ten Tec. I still have my original Argonaut 515 and love it. Great to see the Omni coming back. It still has a large base following.
Glad to see TenTec is still in business! All the Best!
Thank you for adding a third radio to my search for the next radio in my shack. Very pleased to see TenTec is still here and that a new radio from them is forthcoming. I've owned a couple of Argonauts (515 and II) and never really had the chance to graduate to an Omni. Maybe now's the time. Good job reporting on the new rig.
Very happy to spend your money :D
Happy to see Ten Tec get the Omni series going. I have the Omni VII and love the radio. Its big enough to get my fingers on the knobs. The display is 'LARGE PRINT' and BIG. The menu system is one button and no sub-menus!!!...I had a malfunction and break down of my Manual external tuner while transmitting 100 Watts on my Omni VII. It burned two FET transistors in the finals of the Omni VII. I contacted Ten Tec in Tenn. The service dept. was great. They fixed the radio in about a week and shipped it back to me $150 (including shipping). Great receiver and I get compliments on the clear audio. Looking forward to Omni 8.
First that I have seen this new radio on social media. You may be the only one that has posted anything about this new rig.
We reported it on the Ten Tec group on Facebook the Friday of Hamvention; just pictures...:-)
Thanks for the comment, big fan of what you do. Thanks for commenting!
Yeah, I'm looking for more in depth reviews and only finding old model stuff. That's not a good look.
Nice. Thanks for posting.
Thank you for keeping Ten-Tec alive. With all the $9,000-$12,000 rigs by Icom, Yaesu and Kenwood, it seems that the radios operators rave about the most are Elecraft, Flex and good ol’ Ten-Tec!
Good to hear that TenTec is alive and still kicking.
Buying from Ten Tec is like booking a trip on the Titanic, good luck.
I am surprised and happy to see them still producing radios. I go way back with Ten Tecs.
Should be an interesting radio!
Great to see Ten Tec. Best wishes to Mike!
Thanks for watching!
Great news! Glad they made it to Hamfest. Onward and upward.
Dave Moore Ten Tec is hanging onto turds in the toilet they are so close to drowning in.
Good to hear him talk about building up the commercial business to help subsidize the amateur community. I've never had any TenTec gear but it seems cool. That said, I do have an Alpha 9500, also owned by this gentleman, so anything they can do to keep operating is great news to me!
2 years later and still "not seen anywhere" lol
I love Ten Tec rigs!
AWESOME 👍
I love Ten-Tec
I love the new Omni 7 plus. I don't think I'll trade my Orion for it, but boy am I glad Ten-tec is back! Great video!
Mike would say they never left :D
I'll surely consider one of these rigs! I'm a CW only op and it's nice to see a modern rig that keeps cw operators in mind, rather than as an afterthought to every other bell and whistle on modern SDR rigs these days.
If you're a code man, TT is your oyster. Yes the big 3 are in a gadget contest.
You sir, are a good man. Cheers.
Thanks for watching!
Go TenTec!
Wow this looks promising...Praying for this guy. The Eagle looked interesting. Wonder if that will every come out.
This reminds me of Collins radio, pre-1972. They made their living selling avionics and commercial radios, but continued making Ham equipment even though in most cases, it was far from a gold mine.
I wondered what happened to Ten-Tec....thanks for the video...
Ten tec are the best out there.... voila... for returning.
Ten Tec.... Quality equipment.....
Nice!
Aircrafty, hehe good response to a way out question. Good on Tec Tec for keeping the dream alive.
The dream is dead
Very nice
In a word... Sweet!
Ten Tec beautiful keep it in America this is awesome I thought and I heard rumors they were out of business I try to bring up a website I couldn't do it now I'm very interested I'm going to be looking into 10 Tech thank you for sharing this video deeply appreciated goodbye from Atlanta Georgia
From what I have heard, they are building a new factory to increase production.
@@HamRadioCrashCourse this is awesome keep it in America I can't wait yippee ki-yay
Hi Mile. Hope you are well. God Bless.
Thanks for the video Josh.. I wonder why he didn't want to do a video with me? I have nothing against Ten-Tec. I hope they continue..
Odd, we spoke on Sunday and he was down to talk about anything.
Ten-Tec's loss...
Why the LCD on my Orion II looks far better... more bright, more contrast and colors looks more clear? Is it the camera issue?
I have been checking their web site since this video went live and they still do not have this radio available for sale. WTF are they doing? May as well forget about them.
I want this
The radio is not calibrated before selling? Means that I have to pay extra money to get calibration of my quite new radio?
I saw the QRP Open source radio on the end of the table and hoped you would have included it. Stopped by their old location (Not far as I live in Knoxville) and got to check it out. I hope they bring it back.
I'd like to review that radio too.
The 506 Rebel is on their website in the store right now.
I've had a Rebel open source for a couple of years. It is really a cool rig that you can completely customize. I also must say that I learned a lot from it. Check it out on my qrz page -W3ATT
Ten tec knows about sdr tecnology?
Excellent video which has helped to restore some faith in TT after a long lapse of ANY news from the CEO. I wish Mike and the TT staff the very best.. I may have to wait for the Omni 8 to get a band scope which is real time or as close as possible. The O7+ band scan is just toooo slow in my opinion!!
I would Like to see an identical matching transmitter rack mounted with the same readouts and framework to go along with the TenTec RX340. Or put the Omni 7 transceiver in a package that is I identical to the Rx 340. I think it would sell like hot cakes..!
its june 2023 still no Ten Tec?site shows they where moving but that was last year no updates......
Cool. maybe I will start selling all my old stuff and buy it. but one of the problems Ten Tec has is they make there stuff to good. I have all of the Ten Tec's I have ever bought and they all still work. except for one paragon. these rigs are the easiest radios to operate. even I can do it. all I can say is hope you have a lot of good luck and you will be able to sell these in Europe if you can figure out to have a service department out there. 73.
Where are the prices for these extras? Like antenna tuner, filters and whatever else.
I gotta say, looks very nice. LOVE the metal front panel, and that the "encoder wobble" on the controls was fixed. This always turned me off on the old Ten Tec stuff: Good electronic design but cheap plastic feel and wobbly controls. These "+" Ten Tecs look much more professional, good job. I really hope Ten Tec stays in business selling ham gear.
Does the scope update and receive at same time now?
being 2020 I wonder if they are still in bussiness
The reason Tentec went under is because they were always 10 years behind all of the competition. The Japanese have run the ham radio market sense the mid 70,s.Once the rice burners came out it was the end of American made rigs.
When I click on the Amazon link I get "This Influencer Storefront is not active."
Things that trouble me a bit are that it's using a filter that's already no longer available and he hasn't even announced when the rig will go on sale. I realize that Mike is probably being cautious and keeping a close eye on the financials and paying the bills with the commercial side of the business. It makes it hard to judge when/if Ten-Tec is going to be a major player in the Ham marketplace again. Interesting comment about the DSP performance, but hard to tell how true, especially since we can't evaluate the new rig yet. Is it still better DSP than the competition or is Mike biased?
Oops I just checked the website. It's listed in the store and there's pricing etc. Have to keep an eye on this one.
Rig is up right now on their web site for sale.
I've heard lots of rumors about Ten-Tec over the last couple of years...thanks for giving us the story right from the source. Having said that, the new flagship rig looks great, but I'd rather see something entry level for QRP/portable enthusiasts....something to compete with Elecraft's KX radios.
The Eagle ?
The Argonaut? The Eagle? I like both of them.
It's nice to see that TenTec has made it through their many recent changes and is bringing new product to the marketplace. BUT, I can't bring myself to forgive them for abandoning those wonderful T-Kits and hobbiest regens and DC receiver kits. It tells everyone listening that we only care about the thickness of your wallet.
I still have several unbuilt T Kits.
@@ronstar7027 So do I Ron. :)
I bought and returned the Orion II because the Multi-Function knob was a wobbly POS. If any other company were to charge 4K bucks for a rig, that multi function knob would have been sleeved and fly-wheeled with some nice tactile feedback. Glad to hear they have apparently fixed the cheapo knob problem, and hopefully they will put out something that is not basically a 14 year old design.
It may be a fine $1500 radio. But 2,700 for a radio that may be offered a short time while they go comatose again, nope. They have a poor record and have to show they can and will stay in the amateur radio business before I would buy one. Remember the much overrated Paragon.
Please continue to support the Original Omni VII with firmware updates... pleeeese :)
where to buy in France ???
When you go to the store you get this message:
"Attention Ten Tec Customers.
Effective June 18, 2022, the online store is closed until we finish moving inventory to Ohio.
There is no one in Tennessee and there is no support available whatsoever at this time.
We should be open again at the end of summer."
It is almost March 2023, and there has been no change in this message. I guess he didn't say which summer he meant...
No band scope???
..Now for that money spent, all they need is a dynamic scope which is running all the time!!!!!..73's Dave,k3dgr
Where is the TT these days? Elecraft is still in… TT?!
5:40 Oww... that screen ghosting... *is spoiled by everything now*
retrogamefox pointing a video camera at a screen looks different than seeing it in person.
So - what are the specs ? Is it a receiver or transceiver ?
The Omni is a transceiver.
Hopefully they can pull themselves up and get back to producing more amateur gear, seeing the radios on the table is nice, but it's all talk until they start shipping them out. I just really want a chance to buy more of the 13xx series QRP radios.
For the people who are in complaints about the look of the omni 7+ It was logical tath you take some of you stock radio and improved some and then store the pond and see how it goes, next will be a Orión 3 all pimp out, taths Wath a small company do in these case, Kenwood take more then a decade for a new radio after the 950sdx which was top line but they drop the ball for a while, amateur market is base on a hobby and not all people have 50k on the cash purse for buy new eyecandy radio antenna amps towers and more, the price with tuner and filters is 3,300 to $ 3,400 far I see and yes if you look eyecandy look somewhere else, cw performance is a elecraft or tentec period
An Icom 7300 is eye candy for less than a $1000. Want roofing filters? Buy an FTDX10 for not much more. This is what puts a company like Ten Tec out of business. It's inevitable. Eye candy everywhere with serious performance for VERY little money
He explained himself very well that the company is now making radios again. My advice to him is to come out with limited edition radios to celebrate being back in the ham radio business again to boost sales. The market is very tough now.
Price ?
Starts at $2,699.00
7:45 gravity check
Lol!
Very interesting but I think this gentleman should consider having a more animated representative take the reigns as the face of the company.
Yes, someone who can talk without resorting to tech terms would be nice.
@@jonathanbush6197 Being tech oriented and competent is far more important in building confidence in the product. I think Mike did a fine job representing his baby. He is very authentic and not salesman'ish.
@@stanspb763 Consider the segment starting around 4:06 where he talks about the Omni 7. I waited until almost almost 6:00 before I heard him mention in passing that this is a RADIO. Other basic questions such as what is the frequency range, does it do SSB, does it do FM, does it have a USB port, etc. were never addressed as far as I could tell. Of course he knows his product. He just doesn't describe it well to a newbie in this video.
Is this guy for real so you say all those things about the radio
Yes, I am for real.
Estimated price?
I do not know. I'm in talks with them and will post more when I find out.
Actual retail price....$2,699.00 per their website.
$3,078.00 with install and calibration of tuner.
Always glad to see more options available. Will be watching their offerings. When looking into radios they were a choice, but went with the big three.
@@Riverking1 I'm new to this but at that price wouldn't it be better bet to pick up a Yaesu or Icom just for the support you're able to get from them or users online?
Still using mechanical filters? Will wait for SDR version.
You don't have a clue. I have a 25 yr old TT with mechanical filters, that will copy stuff a sdr doesn't even know is there.
@@miker1473 Yes and it works other way as well with SDR. I too have old and new radios.
Pandamonium the tentec jupiter was the first sdr with buttons a great radio and a pure joy to use have some short cuts but again was the first unless I’m wrong I have one still and some amps but they come way along and hope they do better since tentec was the best ve radios it was only under or next to elecraft
A SDR Can now do All what You $14000 Unit can do
An RSPduo is cheap, and does a lot more.
Except the rspduo dosen’t transmit.
@@HamRadioCrashCourse Simply use any old TX, and an RF change over relay. Or receive on a HackRF One, up to 6 gHz.
2,699.00 to listen to dead air
How can they not realize, especially when having a gorgeous instrument grade RX340 on the table, what good styling is? A simple generic looking black box is hardly the way to go for design. It's as if they aren't thinking, yet they have a history of beautiful radios in their past. I'll never understand how they can stand there with a straight face and not notice the elephant in the room.,
TT Company from the past with technology from the past with a design and tft from the past and a controlling software written in spaghetti code ! I had a TT ORION 1 back in the days it was a pure nightware in every department . I had been told it was a fantastic radio from our president and famous dxer, ON4UN. I wrote a complete review on that shit on eham, think it is always there. I never had anything in my whole life that was so buggy, Scott Robins left TT after this.
The rxer is all they have going for them. They still have that Chinese cheesy look. Ugh
I don't care at all for the new Kenwood Yaesu Icom look at all. Too crowded and complicated.
They are SO over priced - it's actually scary ....
You’re scared?
Perhaps an entry level Japanese rig is the way to go for you. I've been down that road. You want quality "made in the USA," you have to pay for it. Too many guys spend thousands on several affordable radios instead of just one nice contest grade rig. Try the affordable and popular IC7300 CW in the Field Day contest... say 40m at 10pm. You will quickly find out why you pay more for quality.
Ten Tec is too iffy to buy from. I don't trust them to be in business next month.
Nope.
"made in America"
but is it made by Americans?
or a building full of people that can barely speak English?
Not true parts in Omni 7 plus made in America
