I absolutely adored this book. I’m a stay at home mom, the story and main character really resonated with me. I want to see the movie SO bad but it’s not playing anywhere near me 😫 my only qualm is that the tone seems way off from the book, I have a feeling the movie is taking a lighter approach and I’m not sure how I’m going to feel about that 🤔But I do love Amy Adams in any and everything so I’m definitely going to be seeing it either way.
Yeah, I had to drive 40 minutes to see it! And yeah it wasn't quite as dark or weird as I wanted but I still liked it quite a bit. I think book fans will like it though, even if the book still wins ultimately!
16:20 Plus I like how (at least in the book) IT DOESN'T END IN DIVORCE FOR A CHANGE! My Arceus the amount of books etc that end with the woman changing or wanting to go back to her career and because of this she feels like she has to divorce her husband. As for the movie.... EH that's Hollywood not understanding Marriage is a sacred thing.
SPOILERS: I just finished the book. I read her transformation as open to interpretation, "is she a dog, is this a metaphor, or is the character having a dissociative episode?" Things like her "tail" being explained as possibly a teratoma. And then the description of her art show, is she a were-dog or is this possibly an elaborate costume? But then of course, I see how it could be easily read also as, she is magical. The Wanda White character is authoritative, but also, elusive, and no one can find any info about her. This stuff all made the book so enjoyable to me. How open it was to read it either literally, metaphorically, or about a real mental break from reality that the character ultimately uses to inspire art. Reading it, I felt alot of that ambiguity would be lost in a film, where they have to show something. It can't just live in the reader's head. I have not seen the movie yet, but I absolutely loved this novel.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Yeah so many ways you can see the story and I agree it worked better as a book for many of the reasons you described.
Hey! So I just spent the whole month of November reading The Count of Monte Cristo. And yes, at Thanksgiving dinner, I did say I was grateful for being nearly done with it at the time. 😉 Anyway, if you've read it or plan to, perhaps you can do a video comparing it to the 2002 movie. Ya know, the one with a pre-Superman Henry Cavill. 😍 Seriously, though, it's a great movie. But, as the expert, you can be the one to say whether or not it's a great adaptation. God bless!
There is a new adaptation of this coming out soon so I actually started reading the book again! I've read it before and it's amazing. I like the 2002 movie a lot too even though it is very different. But yeah, a book vs show will be out whenever the show is released and I will also have a segment on the 02 movie 😁
Great vid. There's a movie called 'Bitch' with exactly the same premise and plot. It was released in 2017, four years before the 'Nightbitch' novel was published.
Omg I will be coming back to this video after seeing the movie myself. One of my most anticipated of the year! I loved the book, one of my favs I read in 2022. Love the furry jacket!
Wouldn't she get arrested for animal abuse killing those bunnies??? I'm not sure how it works but this doesn't seem ok. I wonder why adaptations like to have characters prioritize leaving their relationships. I remember you did another bk vs movie where a woman was a unit with her husband in the bk and in the movie she ends up killing him. Here they have problems but it's only in the movie they separate. There was another adaptation, that Nicole Kidman (?) mys series where the bk it felt like the woman might get with the guy she was cheating on her fiancé with at a later date but in the show their relationship is just over. Just something I've been clocking. I appreciate your take on the femineity in this bk. Sometimes it feels like I'm being told that my only worth as a woman is whether I can bear a child. I recently discovered what the cover of the bk Irreversible Damage by Abrigail Shrier is actually depicting, that the Irreversible Damage of transmen or women exploring a trans identity is the risk of not being able to have a child and that blew my mind. I keep randomly sharing it with pple lol. In hindsight the full title of the bk is Irreversible Damage: The Transgender Craze Seducing Our Daughters so I probably should've made the connection, but in my defense, I only read a few pages before putting it down and looking at other bks. Anyway, this sounds like an interesting bk, I'll have to check it out someday~ And yes, MLMs are total scams and I'm glad there's more awareness about this issue now.
I think like the cat, the bunnies are a metaphor and so it can't really be applied to real life laws and things because yeah, I'm sure if this was literal she wouldn't be able to do that. And even with the separation I still liked how their relationship was shown in the movie and they do get back together in the end.
Have you ever watched or read Audition, the Japanese horror novel and movie? I think that would be an interesting one to cover. I just finished the book and I think they’re both great.
@@WhytheBookWins cool. Edit: oh I should probably also say it deals with pretty messed up subject matter just fyi. Just in case you have any triggers or anything.
Yeah okay but... that's really pretentious, the excuse for killing rabbits. Bla bla bla bla... I'm really tired of that wordy college thesis-type talk. It's like, we GET IT. Life is deep and complex. You don't need to murder rabbits... I know it's fiction but still. That's so obnoxious.
@mordaciousfilms Thanks. I was thinking the same thing. If she wasn’t “an artist “ she would have been fined or arrested for animal abuse. I do think the class issues do not seem to be explored.
@@WhytheBookWins LOL. Yeah probably. These days there's a lot of concern of child actors in semi abusive situations on TV or movies. For example in the Movie Room with Jacob Tremblay there was a conversation about is allowing a literal child actor (ie not switching to a double etc) causing mental and emotional abuse?
Nice earrings; leaving the hair down obscures the look so while they’re lovely you’ll probably get more views admiring them if they’re obscured bc anyone interested in the brand will wanna check them out
Great video. I love your on-theme outfits in the videos you make!
The premise of this film reminds me of the cartoon Wolfwalkers (2020).
Thanks! I'll have to look into Wolfwalkers!

In the movie the separation was temporary though and they get back together ultimately.

Let me know what you think once you've seen it! 😊
@WhytheBookWins I definitely will!
I like your theme for this as well as the Mildred P.
theme.
Thank you!
Great video! Any thoughts on possibility of movie vs book vs "real story" for Dead Ringers?
I looked into that one when they had that new show adaptation! But for some reason didn't do it. It is one I would like to cover in the future though!
I've been wanting to see this film, as the book moved me so!
Yeah it's definitely worth watching! I bet Adams will get an Oscar nom for it.

Never heard of this movie I'll have to check it out. Love your jacket 😂
Thanks!
I liked the book and I want to see the movie. I grew up in a home with a strong woman so to me, this is just how things are
That's awesome! Let me know how you like the movie once you see it 😊
Is there a really evil villain dog in the movie after the mom And then do tary have a big fight

Yeah people who are sensitive to animal violence definitely shouldn't read the book.

Pretty sure having ur son sleep in a dog kennel would at the very least cause a visit from CPS/CAS.
Yeah I'm sure that's why the movie changed it to a dog bed 😆

I feel the book by Yoder is totally based on / ripped off from the movie “BITCH” from 2017 …
Yeah another commenter mentioned that. I had never heard of it but now I need to read it and see how it compares...
Ggrrrr im a dog. Lol it should have been a wolf.
🐺
Let’s good!❤
