"Lebe wohl, mein Schatz!" (Farewell, my darling!) is a German soldier song from the early days of the Bundeswehr in 1950s. It talks about the typical soldier love life: He gets drafted, and in his time in the army, everything reminds him of his love back home. Once he finishes his service, he will go back to his lover to start a new life together.
