An Elephant pregnancy lasts 2 years, such a tragedy for a mother to see one die.
Misinformed ..an elephant pregnancy is 11 months
Do your research
Estelle Schneider it literally does not matter, be it 2 years or 11 months. the fact of the matter is that it takes a long time for them to give birth, and its tragic for a calve to die off and its mom could only watch and try making the death emotionally less painful.
Estelle Schneider
The African Bush Elephant, as depicted in this video, has a pregnancy period that lasts an average of 22 months...so OP is right.
Грустная девочка Nice, now we can tell Estelle about our research.
Animals with shorter pregnancy have the edge here as when there is a drought or food shortage they might not breed.

A lot of people are complaining about the camera crew not helping. They couldn’t! The mother would not let them! Even if they use a tranquilizer on the mom, they would have to be approved by the park officials first and there wasn’t enough time. Plus, who knows if there was a camera crew at all, they do have mobile cameras disguised as rocks or dung so there may not have been anyone there to help.
Thank God someone here is practical.
So very sad ❤❤
if the BBC can send a camera crew they can give the elephant some water....
how could they have tried? The baby elephant needs 100-200 lbs of food and 26 gallons of water a day. The people recording are in the middle of the jungle, very far from civilization. What could they have done to keep the elephant alive? On top of that, you try to go up to a baby elephant In front of the mom and see if you don’t get trampled

How depressing. I couldn't film these kinds of things and not want to help them
the baby elephants body will provide food for other animals such as vultures who are classified as vulnerable/endangered and probably save lives for other animals.
If you help them the mother will attack you and its also part of the nature so you just better leave them
This is part of nature, you have to leave the way it is
The day may come when there are less than 100 elephants left and they will have guards with them - like the northern black rhinos did. At that point if there is enough money humans can airlift food to them. This broke my heart, and I didn't carry that baby for two years. I hope that mama has a new calf in better times - soon.
Sadly there is a law that, while filming a documentary you are not allowed to interfere with Natur.
If any animal will die without help, you have to let nature take its course. Sad, but it's the reality of producing documentaries
Edit:there was a comment stating that everyone is heartless who films and doesn't help, and that they are cruel monster, if they aren't going to Help, then they shouldn't film them. Comment got deleted, so mine is little out of context

@@samindaperamuna6392 Not intelligent enough to keep the little bugger alive apparently.
To those people who doesn't believe that animals have feelings, show them this.
The Bible says in John 3:16-36 that whoever believes in the Lord Jesus Christ shall not perish but have everlasting life, the Bible also says in Romans 10:9 that those who declare with their mouth that Jesus Christ is their God, Lord, and Savior they shall be saved. Revelation 1:8 says that Jesus is the alpha and the omega. Luke and revelation is the ending times, and Jesus is returning back. So are you going to submit your life to him or no? Narrow is the path that leads to the gates of heaven, but only few people find it. The gates that is the path to destruction is where many people find it! Jesus loves you SO MUCH! That he died on the cross, and was resurrected from the dead 3 days later to give us eternal life.

1. Humans are always held to a higher standard by fellow humans. If you truly believed that it’s hypocritical to apply things to other animals and not humans, why don’t you neuter or spay yourself? After all, if you have pet, I assume you’re perfectly okay with, or at least agree to, neutering or spaying your own pets?

Because if life wasn't, we would take life for granted and would have no purpose in it.
Life is a test and those who are grateful in difficult times those people will get reward in next life.
Pain and difficulty is relative, this calf is lucky to even have a mother that sticks around for more than 10 minutes *cough* sea turtles *cough*
Lmao are you dumb
because inherently life is fragile and fleeting, for millions of years on this planet it has been in a constant arms race to evolve better defences and offenses while also sustaining itself. millions of years on a planet where resources are finite and everything is trying to kill everything else. pain is what prevents organisms from needlessly allowing itself to become injured and death is an inevitable end to all living things. some things are small and only live for hours, other things are large and can live for centuries, but in the end everything dies eventually, sometimes earlier than it's lifespan normally is. its just an unfortunate truth. we are all just bubbles of water trying to stay alive long enough to produce other bubbles of water. ultimately, life is just a strange and as of yet unique to earth phenomena that seemingly arose from random chemistry and very specific temperatures on a relatively average rocky planet orbiting a relatively average star.
This absolutely broke my heart
Parts of this comment section is showing what happens when you let feelings take over instead of logic and facts. To all the people saying to give them water or food its best that they didnt. 1) they are there to FILM and not to intervene unless it was caused by human meddling. 2) That would put the lives of the crew in danger. 3) the mother would protect the calf at all costs so the chances of being able to give it sustenance is small. 4) The calf would have died either way. The crew arrived too late. 5) You should not interfere with nature. We as humans do this enough already. Unlike dogs and cats, you cannot take care of these animals because they are wild. Just like how they arent allowed roaming free in cities because we are humans.

It's moisture they needed not a bloody snickers bar besides they wouldn't know if it's edible.
@@walboyfredo6025 you clearly don't know how nature works then
Why must there be an ignorant and idiotic comment in every video??
This is what mother nature looks like...Not even the most dominant species on the planet next to humans are safe from the phrase, "It's either you Adapt or Perish"
What if me perishing causes me to adapt.
@@justanormalinvestigator2640, you can't adapt if you're already dead
@@falsettogod5853 Actually still not much. And yes, stuff like invading natural habitat, pollution, climate change, etc. caused by humans have destroyed the lives of a lot of other animals and creatures... But even in the pre-human nature, most animals still have a life that's very miserable by this 'natural selection' system. 'Social Darwinism' is considered Nazi equivalent mostly because the natural process discovered by Darwin is extremely cruel by human moral standards. We don't abandon anyone of our own like that. And we have laws to punish ppl who hurt other people. That's why with human intervention a lot of animals are saved. Like pandas for example.
Why so many people there.why haven't gone to get help.

(Omg the way she moved her baby with her big foot ever so gently, she used such care to check if she was still alive, that was so moving.) It’s like she was reassuring her calf everytime she touches her gently. As if to say It’s ok I’m here with you.💔😢
It's amazing how she stayed with her baby up until her last breath. Such beautiful motherly love.🐘❤️🐘❤️
You have an amazing mamma, you will see her again one day sweetheart. You are loved, and she will miss you.❤️🐘❤️🐘
She didn't touch it gently, she literally kicked it. She doesn't care if her pathetic calf is alive or not

Well, I would be tempted to do something to nourish that baby elephant, to ease the pain or redirect/distract the mother back to the herd. I know nothing about elephants but I would at least be receptive to the situation, do/try something.

I need an answer...
Its illegal to interfere with wildlife.
My heart weeps!! For the beautiful mama who has nothing less than unconditional love, loyalty, and a heart of gold for her precious beautiful "ANGEL" baby. R.I.P "ANGEL" baby🐘♥️♥️♥️♥️
There's no water to support milk production. A mother can nibble on sticks and twigs, but if there's no water, there's no milk. Terribly sad to watch as a human mother who would lay down her life for her children. What makes me horribly sad is to think that this may be a reoccurring situation with climate change and mother elephants (among other mother's of the animal kingdom) facing water holes that are drying up and having to watch their babies continue to die.
Thanks for the recommendation UA-cam...
I was in a good mood before watching this.
I used to understand that filmmakers and scientists wouldn't interfere in the lives of the animals they filmed and studied. But it seems misguided now, since these creatures are dying because of human activity. I've seen these helpless animals dying in countless documentaries. There's nothing new. Just help them. We owe them. Because we humans are destroying them.😢
keeping a bucket of water would have been much appreciated than letting nature takes its toll. Cos, I think humans are naturally capable of , and they are happened to be around!
Wow. This is so hard for me to watch. I don't think I can film this and not try to help in some way. Not blaming the film crews at all. They are doing their job. That's why I wouldn't be able to do this job.
Is anyone else crying or just me?😭😭
