Procession in honor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel begins today in Rome| EWTN News Nightly

Catholics traditionally regard the Blessed Virgin as a loving mother and protector. The story says that in 1251, Our Lady of Mount Carmel appeared to English priest, Simon Stock. She gave him the Brown Scapular, a part of the Carmelite habit. Processions in honor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel are observed in Rome throughout the world. Beginning today, a twelve day celebration through next Sunday, a Roman tradition that dates back to nearly 500 years.

The Brown Scapular cannot be worn "...about the wrist." It has to be worn over the shoulders. One part is in front, one part on the back and the straps go over the scapulae (shoulder blades) so that's why it is called the Brown Scapular.
