Oh hey I’m Reva! Stealing that snake was definitely not in Character with Riva‘s usual morality, but I was so excited that I had just figured out the riddle, and then Grem and I see a completely empty tent, an obvious, orange snake, and nobody coming in any direction, and I was like there is no better opportunity. My heart was going a mile a minute. I think I’m using this as a character growth moment where stealing for monetary gain is a no go but she just can’t stand not knowing the answers to a mystery or a riddle. This was my first ever larp experience and it definitely had its ups and downs. It was so awesome meeting Kit and Maddie and Grem in person. Grem and I were peas in a pod, so much fine to hang together. Setting up day one I was exhausted but excited. Then packing back up in the pouring rain I may have had a break down. And I didn’t hear the call for shelter that first day so I was in my tent packing )because I decided to finish the week from a hotel) when the gust hit. It was so scary. And then walking to the tavern after to return things I had borrowed and seeing the carnage was just so disheartening. But all of the unfinished stories have me itching for more. Reck-it Reva will return 2025 for sure.
hey it's me DeMarco! (11:15) as a first time larper i am just 100% thankful to have a community such as reckoning to be my first experience. From the Staff to all the players checking in on me and always making sure i had an opportunity to be involved (Shout out Jaegers). And of course you two for giving me multiple quests to fulfill on the side, I couldn't be happier and would do it all again in a heartbeat :) Thank you guys for all you do and exposing me to such an amazing community
Hey there, Arbiter Eir here. Glad I could help with the washboard and detergent. It was fun interacting with you this year as a fellow NPC. Last year was rough, this year was even more rough, can you please not bring a storm to next year's game? 😆
As an old larper from Germany, I always look forward to seeing reports from other major Larpevents in other countries. I'm really pleased that "The Reckoning" seems to have improved significantly compared to the first two events. 200 players is not very big for our scene, but there are great pictures with some great outfits and the players look like they are "really transported into the world." I hope it continues like this, it all looks like great fun.
I’m just saying, I live in North Carolina and I know a really great place to hold an event like this. There is buildings, bridges, it’s almost 100 acres. There is even a small city. The hills. Trails through the woods. Open fields for combat. Place will easily accommodate several hundred people.
@@SkillTree it’s a place called command decisions war games center. It’s a paintball/airsoft/nerf business. They mainly do rec play stuff on weekends, but host several events during the year. Their biggest event usually brings in close to a thousand people in November. But if there is enough interest doing a like medieval/fantasy larp event could easily happen. I’m currently trying to work on putting something together.
The wooden walkway reminded me of some interesting archeology. Bronze age celts of both northern England and southern France used to make long boardwalks connecting villages and whatelse might be other parts of their everyday living. Most of them would have been a foot or more above the mud too.
Karsa and Aclus at 11:06 (my brother and I respectively) of the Lodestar Lodge! Never thought I'd pop up in a Skill Tree video. lol This was my 1st Larp as well and between that hill, all the mud, and the Tornados, I can't wait to do it all again at Reck25. I only decided to give Larping a go because of this channel and I was surrounded by the kindest strangers I've ever been around. It was a fantastic time, I got to fangirl over you, and got to kill a few bandits. In the end, that's what matters. Thank you for convincing me to try this hobby out.
I'm only like 10 minutes in, but I'm remembering my first major LARP event. The event was held on one big hill, with the camp and market at the bottom, the feast hall at the middle, and the battleground and healing tent up top. We had record heat that week, and the staff had someone in costume just pulling a wagon up and down the hill all day "hawking" water to anyone who needed it. I got heat exhaustion and spent a significant amount of the event in the healing tent, but I wasn't made to feel left out. It was really cool seeing actual medics working in full garb next to the purely-roleplay healers, tending sprained ankles and handing out nausea meds while chanting incantations. Major props to all the people who make these things run!
Hey this is Viet, the Hadrian with a bad italian accent and a beret, and I just wanted to say that this was my first larp and I had so much fun. Despite all the challenges the community made it feel so welcoming and it seems like everyone is already itching for next year. I also wanted to say thank you because both Clever and Maddie were so encouraging and lending me some silver when I was trying to spontaneously organize my own quest on day one. The quest item was never returned to me (I think the Rivlans stole it which is fine, it genrated game either way) but it was genuinely one of my favorite parts of the whole event. Oh and Gareth convinced my morally good character to fake a four-leaf clover and swindle a suzak merchant, so the skullduggery affect is real.
This was my first larp , night one when we had the heavy rain. I learned that my tent wasn't water proof. After telling people the next day I had like five or six people offer me spots and there are 10 or say that they had a spare or an empty one in camp. It was amazing I did have a storage tent which I ended up sleeping in, but the community is amazing some of the nicest people I've met. Also staff was amazing so exited for next year
A recommendation: I recently learned about the boots used in Vietnam, and there's a type of boot with what's called a panama sole that's designed specifically for muck. With the right pair of gaiters, no one would notice.
Sgt. Thornbriar here! Wanted to give a shoutout to my fellow Rivlans that were camping in the out of game area that had to walk across all of the hill from beyond the Hadrian camp to the Rivlan side of the site! That was probably one of the worst of the hikes to make multiple times a day. See y’all next year!
This clinched it for me. My family and I have been thinking about joining. We will 100% be there next year. Thank you for the review. Good staff make all the difference.
Thank you so much for joining The Reckoning! It was my first time playing LARP, and I had an amazing experience, thanks to you . I started as a healer but ended up becoming an assassin, thanks to the quest created for me.
A great video, but I would love it if you would make a separate video about this competition and the winners, because these garments look really impressive and I would love to see them in more detail
Hi George! We have an entire section of our discord dedicated to them where you can see all the entries, the stories and progress photos along the way, and chat with the creators about their submissions!
i know a bunch of other people had fun at the other reckoning events, but this year seems like a huge improvement in my opinion. hope it's even better next time around! also, i love these larp talkback videos, and i'm looking forward to the next one
Having never been to a LARP event, but being a long time rennie I love watching your adventures. If you do decide to get your own game started, I would love to see how it goes. Thank from an old guy.
I will always remember. My very first ever larp a one day event called freezed world and there were 2 group of players. Humans in the village and we undead people. We were on the bottom of the hill and the humans were on top of it. Now our team went up to negotiate. Then back down. Then there was a battle we run back. Then they say our mage is waiting for us in our camp where they told us that we need to go to the village in a portal(so we walked back again) the. We had lunch and had to walk down again then for the final battle up again. It was terrible in full metal armour
Ah yes, the shared suck really does bring everyone together. Aside from the horrid weather it sounds like this year it was a wonderful game. Someday I hope to join you.
I was at Drachenfest US this year, at which activities were heavily curtailed because of the horrendous heat. I can't imagine having to deal with the combination of that *and* rivers of mud.
I've been watching you and your larp adventures for years and it's incredibly inspiring to just see all your adventures and projects and costumes coming together, but it also makes me a little sad that no one on the west coast of the US is really doing things like this. I've wanted to go to Reckoning since year 1 and Bicolline for even longer but it's hard to make such a big trip. Fingers crossed someday there will be an option closer to me.
i was a player liason at reck 2 came to reck 3 and i will go to reck 4 as a vadurkin and had a 14hr trip to get to the event the weather and property SUCKED HARD, but the people is what makes this event good and i hope next years will be much better!
Only 13 min in, and agree with everything so far from a player perspective. This was my first LARP, came because y'all's vids showed how awesome the community is. I think tornado drill 2 in the middle of the night was prob my highest lowlight 🤣🤣 But throughout all, everyone was just the best. Can't wait for next year! Enjoy the tiny horn mugs btw, lmk if you ever have problems from them. -Olîn, Vadurkin Shaman
Reminds me a bit of the game I so to here in SoCal where one game was the same weekend that the San Diego NWS issued their first ever Blizzard Warning up in the mountains. It was a fun game, but very understanding if people didn't have the greatest time. Hey, y'all should come out here sometime! :-P Just leave the rain at home please.
So, from the Hadrian Perspective, we were really disorganized this year thanks to that damn hill. None of the Hadrians really knew the map game had started or that it existed. But, in any case, we will support our own. I didn’t know we’d attacked the Rivlans, in fact from our perspective the war started when one of ours got his spine smashed in the Rivlan camp day 1, or when the duel over the cursed sword broke down. Either way, LET IT BE WAR!
I love reviewing videos as it helps me avoid the pitfalls of others in my own LARP. I heard from a few people that the weather was terrible and the site was kinda iffy. It took a long while of searching to find even a decent site to host.
The whole thing brings to mind some real world camping trips I’ve been on. Apparently Murphy stole his law from earlier cultures that predate helicopters but still have to assume that anything that can go wrong will and try to plan accordingly. The things you can’t plan for is where ingenuity and teamwork really shine. It appears that the LARP community brings that mindset with them, that this is just another challenge to be overcome to everyone’s benefit.
The best way me and my friend best described the event as "Unrealized potential." So much cool stuff happened, but it could've been so much more if it just wasn't wet
Missed this video initially but very happy to hear that it went well despite mother nature’s wrath 😂 I can’t go next year but I’m crossing my fingers for a reckoning 5 🤞🤞
I have always wanted to climb huge sand dunes but living in North America never thought that was going to be a possibility, until I found out about the Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado. So the wife and I went there and started our trek. Mother of Gawd! When you see people running around sand dunes in the movies that has got to be either CGI or stunt doubles! So, yes! I understand completely the whole hill situation. Things I am curious about that haven't been mentioned. Drinking water? Food vendor situation? Reckoning 4 the wife and I are planning on attending, instead of just bringing our van though I am going to bring my enclosed 20 foot car trailer and just put everything in that. Not sure how I feel about dragging things up a hill though. I would STRONGLY urge staff to rethink that along with opting for an early calendar date. Cold is much easier to deal with than heat. Trust me, if I have to, I will be running around in nothing but crocks and a thong! NOBODY wants that! ;)
Last year we had the "IKEA Medieval Week on Gotland". Most pavillions were "flat packs" (not mine, strangly... Maybe because the walls weren't catching the wind, because they were loose... Maybe). And I think you should go there, not IKEA, Medieval Week on Gotland!
I wasn't able to go (lost my PTO while switching jobs), but I remember hearing announcements about heavy rainfall (that ended up soaking the notebooks Skilltree made), then tornadoes, then **total chaos** I felt bad for yall. I was excited to go, but at this point, I think Reckoning isn't meant to be a smooth experience haha
Craft question that probably has a better place to get answered but Im gonna go for it here anyway before I forget it: What skills would one need/ that would you reccommend building to make a leather shell for a modern clam shell plastic suitcase? I have a decent sized suitcase to move my D&D stuff to and from games (i run games at a local community place and while I love the place and the folks who run it, I do not trust them with My Stuff) and i really want my D&D suitcase to have an Old Vibe to it. Im already in the process of (and in procrastination at) designing Old Vintage Tourism Stickers but for places from D&D lore and my world, but that dosnt stop the case from looking New and Plastic. Given its modern rounded shape, I was thinking Leather was the best way to go to give it basically a hat that would roughly keep its shape if made into a box.
I really hope staff are able to recoup some of their money from the venue: I imagine they had to pay for the gravel and everything else needed to actually get the place to what was promised.
Sounds and looks super fun! Ive been workong on garb to at some point be able to go and do something like this. Wr have to be able to afford to do something like that. ❤
Nope! I turned my modern boots into knee-high medieval ones with some gaiters I made for this event. And let me tell you, I did not take those off even after the game ended because they protected me from SO much mud and water and bugs. Highly recommend some high boots for this kind of thing. I need to find even more.
My wife an i were at Tenn Ren that same weekend. Honestly was considering trying to do both events since we were just a scant 45 minute drive down the road. Got hit with the hail storm, that was less than fun. Kit, you should also get a travel Kilt. I went to florida in sleep oants and it was a nightmare trying to do any thing. On the way home i broke out my ultil-a-kilt on the trip home and i will never travel long distances with out a kilt ever again. Air plane bathroom + kilt lift, all im sayin
Greeting Prince here! 42:20 I’d like to clear up the situation with me attacking the Vadurkin in the overworld game. Basically the Vadurkin raided the Suzak camp and took all our resources plus the silver from a couple non-combatant Suzak merchants. This angered the Prince so I went to their camp and told them that they need to return their silver that they raided from the merchants, or else I would to attack their faction in the overwold game. They told me that they wouldn’t return the silver, so I made good on my threat and raised a huge army to attack the Vadurkin holy cirt. Which they did defend against (But this was resolved after the game had ended) Assuming that the overwold game continues where it left off, we will have a lot of roleplaying to do to resolve the conflicts instilled in the map game. they will remember me as Sulayman the Conqueror 😎
I'm not butthurt, but you failed to mention the sketchy malice raid with multiple misused rules of magic that Vadurkin WERE going to leave alone to "play to lift" the suzak players - the fact that prices in the bazaar were exorbitant bc the Suzuki had so much money to start with, - the fact that a suzak sold fake magic gems that screwed over other players, - other things I'll leave to not bring the community into a fight again. I'm friends with players both sides, and IDC about "winning", I want everyone to enjoy the awesome game staff made I hope everyone enjoys their day, good luck and adventure on friends.
@@knightjack you’re right. Maybe I was a bit unfair. I’m gonna edit the comment and take out the emotional parts. Mistakes were made on all fronts and I dont want to upset anyone. Thank you
Hey Kit have you thought of bringing ladykiller to a larp or use it because that would be awesome. I am working on making one similar but not the spider look. Would a crossbow not help with thief and assassin work?
I wanna hear more about the language y’all made. Is it in the discord? I love conlanging Also it looks like you guys had fun even though it was rough! I’m really glad! 🎉
I'm from the UK and don't have a passport but if you guys make a larp i will be getting a passport so freaking quickly! I found your channel a lil while ago and have now binged all but one of your videos! Only thing is i use a wheelchair most of the time. Any ideas of how to larp with a chair?
hi guys! i am creating a character who is a cook. i intend to bring tons of food and a wood burning grill ( fantasy correct) and cooking each morning. i know some larps provide basic lunches some don't. but i loooove to cook. i want to feed people in exchange for random things like a song, trinkets or small job requests. but I'm having a hard time thinking of some easy simple quests that wont be too story specific or plot based. so far i have things like "leave a note on someone's door" or " snack a bad of snacks to a foreign leader type" and inside I'd put a note the the food was "poisoned" which is fun and means someone gets a free snack, so win-win. what other things could be good small quests for players to earn their breakfast, drinks or snack?
haha if you wanna stir romance plot you could make sending romantic missives to somebody a mission. Or you could arrange a fetch quest for ingredients with a merchant.
@@noaccount2494 ooh, i really like the merchant quest idea for sure. it would be a great way to make friends with other merchants and interact more with the environment!
I really enjoy these videos but I am begining to think I'm too old for this. I haven't got the stamina for battle/fighting anyway so I guess I'll just enjoy it from the perspective of others.
Take a moment and think back on the historical wars you are basing your fantasy recreation on, and what this weather would have done (and did do) to them. Why did no major offensives take place in late spring it certain places? This. Edit: As the kid who always rode in the station wagon trunk, I understand.
Sounds like you made the most of it guys. First players. then npcs.. should we be looking forward to you setting up your own event one day in the future? 🤞😏

Can you do an episode with how you made those scrolls (dyeing the paper in tea?)
That might be coming down the pipeline… the footage is just a sneak peak 😘
I wasn't able to go (lost my PTO while switching jobs), but I remember hearing announcements about heavy rainfall (that ended up soaking the notebooks Skilltree made), then tornadoes, then **total chaos**
I felt bad for yall. I was excited to go, but at this point, I think Reckoning isn't meant to be a smooth experience haha
Great video, The Muckening😅
Reminds me of my first camp out in boy scouts we had a Tornado touchdown near by
No tornadoes here but we did have to get up at night to dig trenches around the tents once 🤣
😊 Can't wait til they announce-skill tree THE LARP whatever or wherever the LARP takes shape!!
Have fun with that.
I really hope staff are able to recoup some of their money from the venue: I imagine they had to pay for the gravel and everything else needed to actually get the place to what was promised.
This makes me want to start larping. Love the video brother
I was to debut my larp last weekend but we had to push it back to the 22nd because of rain
Sounds and looks super fun! Ive been workong on garb to at some point be able to go and do something like this. Wr have to be able to afford to do something like that. ❤
I’m starting to think bringing thigh high boots to a LARP isn’t so impractical.
Nope! I turned my modern boots into knee-high medieval ones with some gaiters I made for this event. And let me tell you, I did not take those off even after the game ended because they protected me from SO much mud and water and bugs. Highly recommend some high boots for this kind of thing. I need to find even more.
You guys need to come back to Pennsic :)
I also got to go to this and it really was a trip
Dude it was so fun I cannot wait to go back next year.
Which they did defend against (But this was resolved after the game had ended)
Assuming that the overwold game continues where it left off, we will have a lot of roleplaying to do to resolve the conflicts instilled in the map game.
they will remember me as Sulayman the Conqueror 😎
Manners are Important
This has kingsman “manners maketh man” energy lol
I'm not butthurt, but you failed to mention the sketchy malice raid with multiple misused rules of magic that Vadurkin WERE going to leave alone to "play to lift" the suzak players
- the fact that prices in the bazaar were exorbitant bc the Suzuki had so much money to start with,
- the fact that a suzak sold fake magic gems that screwed over other players,
- other things I'll leave to not bring the community into a fight again.
I'm friends with players both sides, and IDC about "winning", I want everyone to enjoy the awesome game staff made
I hope everyone enjoys their day, good luck and adventure on friends.
Also Divinfalls is the most holy city of the Vadurkin, not the capital. Like attacking the Vatican not Washington DC.
@@knightjack you’re right. Maybe I was a bit unfair. I’m gonna edit the comment and take out the emotional parts. Mistakes were made on all fronts and I dont want to upset anyone. Thank you
Hey Kit would you like some black chainmail to add to your gear it is not riveted mail but it is chainmail. It could help with your garb. It is steel.
Fun and tornado 🌪️
Hmm. Maybe you shouldn't come to Drachenfest US. I'd like the torrential storms to stay away 😂
It was my first larp, Rivlan camp ❤
Sounds like you've encountered Type 2 fun with all that weather 😆
Hey Kit have you thought of bringing ladykiller to a larp or use it because that would be awesome. I am working on making one similar but not the spider look. Would a crossbow not help with thief and assassin work?
Mud, tornadoes, rain, heavy vehicles stuck. sounds like FTX at Ft Sill 🙄. Not a LARPer just a beginner leather worker great video, bouncing Mattie👍,
can you make a list video for someone that never been to one before a newbie many thanks
How many acres was the event spread out over? Just to help give context to camping and amount of walking to be expected
Great video!
Watched until the end, scrolling text of your Patrons didn't show. Not sure if that was a UA-cam flub.
Where can I get a D20 whiskey glass?
So cool
I wanna hear more about the language y’all made. Is it in the discord? I love conlanging
Also it looks like you guys had fun even though it was rough! I’m really glad! 🎉
I wish I could have gone but my health won’t allow it right now. Maybe next year.
Quest development video!
All hail The Prince
I'm from the UK and don't have a passport but if you guys make a larp i will be getting a passport so freaking quickly! I found your channel a lil while ago and have now binged all but one of your videos! Only thing is i use a wheelchair most of the time. Any ideas of how to larp with a chair?
It was great to see you guys again!
Hey would reckoning be a good first larp
hi guys! i am creating a character who is a cook. i intend to bring tons of food and a wood burning grill ( fantasy correct) and cooking each morning. i know some larps provide basic lunches some don't. but i loooove to cook. i want to feed people in exchange for random things like a song, trinkets or small job requests. but I'm having a hard time thinking of some easy simple quests that wont be too story specific or plot based. so far i have things like "leave a note on someone's door" or " snack a bad of snacks to a foreign leader type" and inside I'd put a note the the food was "poisoned" which is fun and means someone gets a free snack, so win-win. what other things could be good small quests for players to earn their breakfast, drinks or snack?
haha if you wanna stir romance plot you could make sending romantic missives to somebody a mission. Or you could arrange a fetch quest for ingredients with a merchant.
@@noaccount2494 ooh, i really like the merchant quest idea for sure. it would be a great way to make friends with other merchants and interact more with the environment!
Wait, what happened to the tent you made?
I really enjoy these videos but I am begining to think I'm too old for this. I haven't got the stamina for battle/fighting anyway so I guess I'll just enjoy it from the perspective of others.
Hey the Patreon part of the end screen isn't there
It betrayed us and didn’t make it past the export 🥲
*laughs in Australian who plays a monster character*
us hadrians didnt skip leg day..
No lie, I went to your camp ONCE and I’m still feeling it…
I am a Game Runner out of Missouri, I have experience with building a LARP and would like to volunteer to help you create your own LARP.
Haha, Kit. You forgot the actual names of the patrons. It's just a black screen😂
More quest creation content!
Take a moment and think back on the historical wars you are basing your fantasy recreation on, and what this weather would have done (and did do) to them.
Why did no major offensives take place in late spring it certain places? This.
Edit: As the kid who always rode in the station wagon trunk, I understand.
After dealing with that muddy hill, the Battle of Agincourt feels so much closer in time and relatable.
Sounds like you made the most of it guys. First players. then npcs.. should we be looking forward to you setting up your own event one day in the future? 🤞😏
