I got a Traeger 124 about 20 or more years ago and it still works great. With a few upgrades. Wish UA-cam would let people post a few photos with there comments ? Okay I'll make a video .
I just bought myself a Traeger for mother days. I was really nervous but My first chicken turned out great. My husband said he would keep me around for another 50 years if I keep cooking like this. Ribs are next!
Main difference to the new ones are the grates now separate into thirds making cleaning even easier! Also got a cast iron grate third if you want to sear that will get up to 500+ for a quick sear (pro tip use it upside down for a better sear)
Great Video. I have had my " Lil Tex " for several years. Your pros and cons are pretty much spot on. I added the flip up shelf and a bottom self. I have prepared many different meals on mine, including pizza and pies. I have received many good comments on my grilling. The ribs are always a big hit. I have used all of the pellet flavours I can find. I will not go back to any other type of grill. I do agree wind is a factor. Mine sits on a open porch with a roof overhead. I still grill in the winter, it just takes a bit longer. I have thought about the wrap you can purchase for the grill and cover it up a bit. I really have not had a problem with the Traeger Grill.
I've had mine for 5 years. I haven't had any issues with it. I've been looking for a better one, but they are all about the same. As far as the wind affecting the temperature, I bought a oversized welding blanket heavy one, and set it over the smoker in the cold and windy Michigan days. It keeps the temperature within 5-10 degrees.
Its funny Ive always used charcoal grills. Never liked propane. One of my family members bought the Treagor and we liked it so much they bought me one as a gift. I will never go back to charcoal unless im camping.
Adrian P can you tell me what size and what the brand name is of the welding blanket you bought please and what size Treager you have? we are having a hard time with the wind here.
No doubt. Per cooking time in hours, propane is vastly cheaper. You can offset that buying cheap pellets, but when that is your fuel source AND flavor source, why would you? It always amazes me when people spend a lot on the Traeger name and on huge cuts of meat but can’t spend a few a few bucks more on quality fuel.
I was raised on charcoal, then my dad got propane. 35 years later I went back to charcoal for 1 year before buying my Traeger. The move to charcoal was good, but the move to my Traeger has caused my taste buds to become spoiled. 2 years in and it is stil running top shape. here in Quebec our winters our cold and windy, but I put my Traeger in the shed (slightly opened a window to air out the smoke) and cooked all year long. I have several hardware stores around me that sell both Traeger pellets and other pellet brands too. The only con to my Traeger --- I'm gaining weight
I am considering a Traeger and so I appreciated this video SO MUCH. I would have never thought about the wind but since I live in Colorado and it's ALWAYS windy here, I'm not sure what to do now. I guess more research.
I like that you were honest with your comments, both pro and con, just like anything in life, nothing perfect .i wish I would have bought a pellet grill a long time ago instead of wasting a lot of money on store bought thriw always that only last a few years,I love my Traeger no matter what anybody says.
Me too Tim. If i would have bought one 10 grills ago, i would still have a traeger that works and money in my pocket. Like many things, if you pay the price up front, it pays you back in the future.
I love my Treagers and have never regretted buying them! Don't know about the new ones but mine are extremely well built with heavy gauge materials and I expect they will probably last another 20 years easy! Just keep them cleaned out and dry on the inside. They have seen hundreds if not thousands of pounds of meat! I have used it to cook any and everything! It makes a mean smoked cobbler!
Excellent video. I have a "Lil Tex 34" arriving in about a week so this video is a great tool to become familiar with the parts and installation of the smoker parts. Now that I have watched the video one time, I'll be watching it again throughout the week in order to reinforce what I have just finished watching.
@@thefreezedryingcommunity Like most folks, mine sits on the deck outside and I live in the upper reaches of the Rockies. I've fired mine up at 40 below many times and she just keeps tickin.
I just became a pellet grill owner and I'm a big fan too. But one big con for me is all the sophisticated components that can and will break over time. Mainly this is the hot rod, the combustion fan motor, and the auger fan/motor. Yes, they are not difficult or expensive to replace if you are handy. But you will never have that issue with a charcoal grill or propane grill. However, the great taste and ease of use offsets this con.
When I got my Traeger,I got tons of extra stuff, rubs, sauces, cover, and a real good deal, but mines a old ☝️,and as far as pellets they have Traeger pellets at all ace hardware stores, nationwide.
Had mine about 6 yrs. now and love it. They have a great customer service, had a problem, called their tech support and got problem solved. They even sent me a part free of charge. No questions asked
I have the pit boss, big pro on it Is the flip back open flame. Can cook a steak and give it flame so u can flame broil it. I use a welding Blanket and fire bricks in the bottom and it holds heat and uses less pellets!
I get my 40lb bag of pellets from Menards $14.50 Traeger is manufactured in China and I have the middle one I purchased from Home Depot for $649.99 2 years ago. The Traeger Drum rusted after one year, Traeger did send a replacement under warranty. My cooking temp has a 12 degree swing. Also I put 4-5 layers of foil down,it it gets dirty you just pull up on the foil and you have an new on ready to go.. I bought a Ridgid battery shop vac for ash clean up.
As far as pellets go, I know they also sell them at Walmart. They’re made by pit boss, but i like them. And I bought a 20lb bag for like 10 bucks. They also sell bigger bags too.
Appreciate your review! Am awaiting delivery of a 520 ordered from Costco on sale. Will be transitioning from propane so your tips are definitely helpful.
Bought Texas Grill in 12-2012. It came in Jan 2013. I was out of propane and stayed out until 4 years ago when our son in law gave me his bottle. Still haven't used it ... except to store T stuff.
Thanks. Great video. I was a toss up between a new Weber or a new Traeger. I wasn't sure how the Traeger actually worked, now I know. In the summer we BBQ food every night in the summer.
I just retired, too-jaja, anyway. I just bought my first Traeger 575 and hope it's as wonderful as its reputation. Wish me luck, and I hope I don't become the first cook to burn something on my new Traeger. Thanks.
Great video and thanks for the two year update! Had my six year old Century 22 and liked it so much bought the new Siverton from a Traeger show over the weekend at Costco, initially was DOA so called Traeger customer service and a replacement logic board and hot rod was shipped UPS along with a new top cover which was crunched during shipping. Traeger customer service is tops IMO. Side note: I kept my old Traeger Century in the garage, pulling it out on the driveway for BBQ/smoking so it still presented like new and was 100% functional, so put it on CL - sold it within two hours. Love my Traeger.
I've been running Traegers for 20 yrs with almost zero issues. Replaced a fan once for $15. I love the Traeger. Why not own both pellet and propane! I use both.
For everyone considering a traeger, it a very good investment to buy the insulated blanket with it. Its a lil costly but in the long run your pellets last twice as long.
Great video. My wife and I went to Ace Hardware the other day to look at some Traeger's. We haven't bought one yet but pretty sure I will before Mother's Day.
Yoder has the indirect and direct cook for searing or even cooking across the barrel but it’s not cheap,YS 640 . It really nice. I never had any issues with my Traeger with temp fluxuations all over the place but I have a American made model before 2007.
Had mine for over 4 & 1/2 years. Your right set it & forget it. Did have a problem with pellets I guess breaking down & clogging auger. I suggest pulling auger which isn't hard just a little time & clean out auger & the tube. Mine bound up. Or take an air hose & blow through auger to get rid of wood dust. If they would only put this system on a big green egg I would buy that. Yes buy this product you won't be disappointed.
I bought 11 years ago and it runs like champ, the only thing I have had too change over the years is the igniter rods in the fire pit other then that it’s set it and forget it.
I took the grate out of my pellet hopper. Had sawdust buildup problems which will cause the fire to go out. Clean out your hopper every once in a while and don’t dump any sawdust from the bottom of your bag into the hopper
Traeger uses base alder wood then adds flavored oils such as pecan, oak etc... I’ve been using Lumberjack pellets made from the actual hard wood it claims to be made from.
I enjoy using my Traeger, but keeping the thing working has been a nightmare. First hot rod burned out in about 4 months, and got it replaced under warranty. A little over two years, the next hot rod burned out, and I was manually starting it for a few months until I got a replacement. That one pops the fuse every time it tries to start up. Everything is traeger brand, and I've only been using Traeger pellets, and keeping it covered (in a very dry climate). It's convenient, and I get spectacular results, but man three years on I'm kinda regretting not getting the green egg every time I have to go partially disassemble it to get it lit.
@@thefreezedryingcommunity Believe it is a Pro-Series 34-Inch. It's one with the gold grill cover, but black pellet cover. Likely 2017 manufacture date if there's different generations...
The oringnal Traeger were American made thick heavy steel body and barrel.they stop making them in 2007.the oringal pellet box was round just like the main cooking chamber,it was a tank and heavy, they are very hard too find..but built too last for years and years.
I've had the smallest one they make for a couple of years now. It's great for cooking, in the small model it's cheaply made with skinny legs and thin metal. It still cooks like a boss. I've had a little trouble with the electronics shutting down in the wind, but other than that the little bugger is great. I'm going to upgrade to a better model eventually, and I would recommend getting a higher end model in the first place.
Thanks for the video. I just ordered a Traeger Renegade Pro. My wife wanted to have it before Christmas. I am super stoked about using it. I think a pork shoulder will be the Christmas meal. Thanks for your video and the Pizza video (can't wait to try that!). I'm looking forward to more vid's from you. PS, I retired at 50.
Congrats on being retired at 50 and congrats on the traeger. Make sure you season your grill properly and follow the starting directions. Pork shoulder is awesome!
I too got a renegade Pro awesome machine had some issues with it but they sent me the new parts with no problem pause for me to exchange them I asked him what will they do for me they sent me what I wanted I'm extra Shelf and a cover for it so don't be afraid to have them send you something for free if you're doing the work on it
I've had mine about 5 years (large Texas size). It makes great food, but I think the materials are crap. I've replaced the hot rod 4-5 times, and the last one I got was defective. I also had to replace the firepot as it was rusted through and the screws were shot. Both the heat shield and drip tray are rusty and severely warped. The lid sagged, so I had to BUY the door stop that Traeger now puts on all grills because the lids sag. It also doesn't work well with anything but Traeger pellets. Like I said, it makes great food, but I wish I would have gotten a Green Mountain.
That's funny you say that. I got a trager from neighbor. He had it for 2 years. Still in great shop. He gave me a discount. Because his work gave him a wood pellet camp chef. I don't think Traegers are bad qua.ity at all.
I love my Traeger. I have a great rub recipe that I use and I’ve watched a lot of shows about smoking. I use both propane and my Traeger. It all depends on what I’m cooking. Biggest thing I’ve found out is try different Traeger wood pellets. This way you dial in the flavor you want. The biggest pro about owning a Traeger is the fact you never need to buy other people’s smoked meats. Just smoke your own. It’s the best grill/smoker I’ve ever had. It makes my neighbors a bit jealous because the area around the house smells so damn good.
I’ve had a pro 22 for awhile now it definitely doesn’t hold the temperature to within 5 degrees. Also I clean my grill after every 3 cooks 10-20 you’re food probably taste like wood dust.
I'm not sure what you mean by with dust there's never been any wood dust in mind for 9 years.... What I vacuum out of mine is called ash..... With a small $30 shop vac.
You can cover your drip tray with heavy duty tinfoil and about every 3rd cook replace it....... If you're out of tin foil or don't have time to cover the drip tray its no problem scraping it off with a bent handled paint scraper.
By the way I purchased my new grill for $75 dollars from a friend that didn’t want to spend time assembling.........yes I have finished assembling and ready to learn how the operation. Thanks for this video
Does the stick burner give more wood flavor than the traeger? I have the traeger select and it doesn't seem to have a lot of smoke flavor, in fact very little, compared to my UDS.
Great video. You forgot to mention time. It takes additional time for the Traeger. Which is no big deal, just plan ahead. I’ve had my Traeger for 6 months and love it! Have ribs and brisket on my long smoke list. Smoking is one of the best features....steaks, burgers, pork, chicken....flavor is amazing! Thanks!
That's a great point. The time is real tough to get use to. I think sometimes it's almost an advantage though. Do you give everything a short smoke before cooking?
Retired at 40- Live.Life.Simple. Yes, at least 15-30 minutes, then crank it up to 450 until it’s ready. Steaks perfect smoking is 45 minutes, which I just watched a recent video and need to try. Also as you mentioned, fun with all the different wood pellet flavors. I got my whole Traeger setup at the local Costco and they have really good pellet prices compared to the other dealers. Happy Treagering! 😉
Glad you do the smoke. It gives everything so much more flavor. I got my setup at Costco as well. They had a weekend special that was hard to pass up....and yes...they have their own mix for the Traeger that is $4 less than anywhere else.👍
The video I wanted to see. Thanks, I was just gonna go fill 3 propane tanks (still will for the RV) but I think I’m goin’ down this trail next week. Never considered pellet sourcing but that’s some great info. Happy grilling! It also says a lot that you bought them as gifts too. Same thing I do when I find a good product.
Thank you for the review , I also own a Traeger and was just wondering why you never spoke about the hopper ,how much it holds , how easy it is to empty if you want to change out the pellets to a different flavour.I know myself it was important when I was buying to check that part out, but maybe that’s just me...lol , Great video though
I bought mine in 2007 it’s 12 years old and it’s still kicks ass, only changed my hot rod twice ,well worth the money.like I told you many times, get a sear daddy, and you can sear a steak on your Traeger, any Traeger except the new models.
I cooked steaks on our bonfire this afternoon. I had oak scraps from by buddies wood shop. On a bonfire you have radiant, convection and conduction heat. I have a Z grill (treager copy) I doubt if you can ever burn anything . $325 and free shipping. Better design than Treager my opinion as a 84 year old with 50 years experience in engineering. I like the easy start and the cleanliness as well as the cool condition. I will not get rid of my Weber. and I still have my gas grill with a modification that gives me 600 degrees. Iguana
First Traeger experience was at Fire Department. One guy brought his in. When cooking with propane and we get a run call, have to turn off propane grill. Trager cooking we could leave it on. We jus make sure to keep pellet hopper topped off. We liked it so much station bought one. Many of us bought em for home. Buy pellets in bulk by the pallet.
I got last year but was small one it worked great for me so I upgraded to pro Tex looking forward this year , Costco $800 has good deals and home depot had special deals for $599 limited in February
I think the Home depot Traegers are not made as well. I am not 100% certain but often Home Depot has big companies build a specific line for them only and cuts the price. Unfortunately the quality is cut as well.
Just picked one up today was on sale for $624 had a 10% off coupon for sportsman’s came out to $561 added the cover and drip bucket liners all out the door was $647 on top of all that I get a $50 gift card for July for spending over $200 that will be buying the shelf for this smoker
I just received my 780 Treager pellet grill as a Christmas gift to myself. I'm going to have to learn how to use this thing which I am excited about but my question to you is " so I shouldn't use my Treager when it's super cold or windy?". I live in Georgia so it's cold and windy right now.
I can't believe I'm just hearing about this grill. You see my name lol. I'm sold on getting this. Not having to worry about coal and cleaning up has sold me. I'm looking at this one and the 650 model. Thanks for the review
Go to Home Depot! Here in Memphis Tennessee the price is a bag of Wood Pellets at Home Depot are $18.00 and most stores that store the bags of wood pellets (some bags burst and the clerk in that department lower the price to $12.00 a bag)
How is it in colder/winter months? That's my only concern; does the lower temperature throw off the cooking Temps in the grill? I get the heavier ironwood and timberline versions would remedy any issues, I'm just really curious how the pro serious does. The idea of smoking in the winter without having to babysit the food outside is what I'm here for
Last night was my first time using my pro 575. Did initial burn the day before and watched UA-cam videos on people’s advice in cooking. I cook for my family of 7 almost every night and I know what I’m doing in the kitchen as an amateur. Cooked chicken breasts and ribeye steaks together. Did a reverse sear for the first time as per video guidelines. Make my own rubs and a compound butter. Never have I tasted chicken that delicious in my life! I’m not a white meat chicken fan but it had an amazing flavor that 8 of us could not stop commenting on after every bite. Steak was amazing as well. If your thinking of spending the money, one mans advice is by all means make the investment. Completely blown away with this pellet grill. Salmon tonight on it. Can’t wait!
Pellets can be had any where in Phoenix, Ace Hard ware carries Traeger but Lowe's, Walmart, and Home Depot carry pellets just not always Traeger. I go through a LOT of hickory, pellets. I have tried three brands and Traeger, the burn times and flavor is comparable. Save your self time and money get which is closest to your home.
I got a pro 22 from a drawing, SCORE! I prefer a regular offset for smoking, but the Traeger let's me set it and forget it. To combat wind and cold I've bought a good, thick, welding blanket to give it a nice barrier from the weather.
You can sear a steak with the diffuser plate out, just leave the drip tray in place,I seared many delicous steaks on my Traeger,it will catch all the drips and go into bucket.try it it’s bad ass.
I've had 2. The first I had for 12 years. The only reason I replaced it was I tried to order an auger. But it came as a complete assembly. And it was on back order. So I bought a new traeger and when the part's came in I replaced it and handed it down to my grandson. I wouldn't own anything else. I hope you enjoy it as much as we have.
When comparing fuel sources for cost efficiency, it would be useful to know how many hours a bag of Pellets cost, vs it's weight, vs Propane and how long it will cook for.
That would be helpful. However, at this point, after using pellets for a couple years, the cost doesn't matter to me. The benefits of the food quality outweigh the cost. Even if its double the price.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I am currently looking in to getting one. Currently have a nat-gas unit but, coming from charcoal, there is a HUGE loss of flavor. Looking forward to a Traeger. Subd ya bro. Peace+
My Traeger is about 3 years old. I clean it inside and out, but I never know when it’s going to work correctly. I’ve had to replace 2 motors, 3 of the little round parts that turn the auger; and I still get “ler” errors. I’m tired of it. I would not recommend Trager grills
Thanks for the video. I bought my 780 Traeger Pro today. Waiting for delivery. I have a Weber propane which has done great for me, however I wanted a smoker for a long time for when I catch my Rainbow and Brown trout. Looking forward to more videos I have subscribed.
I've had mine for about 5 years. It's sat outside in the prairies the entire time (covered of course) but it still looks brand new. I just had to change the temp control panel but it works great again now.
I have the Traeger Timberline. My next grill will be a Green Mountain pellet grill. I’m on my second year with mine and I’m not happy with it’s construction at all
Hubby cooked steaks on our Brand New Traeger... We got afraid of how long we were told to cook/smoke and had daughter coming over to eat so he moved up the temp. and they turned out RED.. the meat was done But looked Strange.. I guess we need a Basic Cookbook on how long to smoke and cook.... Thanks for your help..
I’ve never used ether propane or pellet grill. I learned on a charcoal offset barrel grill and I still love it I might upgrade to a pellet smoker one day but I’m having a hard time getting away from it cause I love it so much
Just picked up an ironwood 885 about 2 weeks ago, yes it was expensive, but the WiFire is a game changer. I love being able to go to the store or run some errands and be able to just look at my phone and see what my Traeger is doing on the other side of town. To the ones who say it’s not real bbq, to each their own. But I love being able to not have to babysit my smoker all day. I still love my Weber but I don’t think I’ll ever go back to propane or charcoal after this.
I just got mine today. It may be awesome going from gas to pellets, but I’m going from sticks to pellets. From what I’ve experienced so far, it’s gonna take some getting used to.
OK, I was just informed by my wonderful wife that I'll be getting a Traeger for a combination birthday and Father's Day present. I ALMOST bought a grill at Costco in late February...just before the world changed. Yeah...that stuff. Now I'm doing some research and I found your video. THANK YOU! Very well done! I'm sold...merely need to pick out which model I want. I especially liked your comments about the lack of storage / shelf space with the "saw horse" base. QUESTION #1: Where did you get that shelf and are they made for all units sold? QUESTION #2: Have you looked at or used the wifi feature that I now see advertised? QUESTION #3 I don't think I need anything as big as what you have. I don't want a tiny grill however. Should I pay more attention to the controller than anything else (when comparing models)? Thanks!
I'm not as informed as i should be on the new models, but many have wifi. It was an option when i was looking, but i just saw it as something that i wouldn't use and another thing that could break or fail. It works great for some, just wasn't for me. The shelf is made by Traeger and i am sure there is a shelf made for all models, they have lots of aftermarket and customization options. They also make a lower shelf for storage. My model is no longer in production and the 34 has taken its place with the controller upgrade already in place. They make a smaller version is the pro 22. It has the pro controller with 2 probes and you can check the grill temp without lifting the lid. That is very important you will find out because you let all of the heat out every time you lift it. The bells and whistles are not my thing, nut they work well for others. Good luck on your search. Let me know what you decide on! Happy Grillin
This is s nice cooking machine. But, what is moisture being outside going to do to the electronics. How much is it going to cost to replace the computer or any of the motors. I do like this smoker but I will have to say, my Big Green Egg is still top of the line. NO drop chord or anything mechanical to wear out. JS Also, the BGE has a lifetime warranty on the ceramic.
Biggest con I can think of is either not being able use your electric smoker or the chance of ruining your food if the power goes out, unless you have a backup generator. Neither’s a problem for me since I plan my cookouts when the weather’s nice.
One of the greatest investments I have ever made. I'm up to my 3rd Traeger now and absolutely love my Traeger. I use it all the time. It cooks amazing in so many ways. A Traeger helpful hint, if you live in cold weather or windy weather do yourself a favor and go to a Harbor Freight store and buy yourself a welding blanket to put over the Traeger when your cooking. I will help hold the heat and block the wind. It beats buying a Traeger blanket.
@@thefreezedryingcommunity Unfortunately I'm not. I started out with a Lil Tex Elite and of course fell in love with it and used it all the time but found that I needed more cooking space, so I ended up selling it to buy the Texas. Biggest mistake I ever made was selling my Lil Tex Elite. Had the Texas for about a year but it wasn't as good as my Lil Tex Elite and ended up selling the Texas and bought myself the select elite. The select elite looks more like a gas grill, but cooks amazing. The select elite is the best Traeger I've owned so far. It took a little bit of time getting past it not looking like a smoker and more like a gas grill, but once I cooked on it, HOLLY COW does it cook amazing and I could careless about it's looks. I have turned so many people on to Traeger. By the way if your a costco member you can get a gourmet blend 30lbs bag of pellets for $18.00.
I've had one for 6 months and absolutely love it, made the switch and will never look back!
Excellent!
Me too! Had a learning curve but closed it quick. Just love it.
I got a Traeger 124 about 20 or more years ago and it still works great. With a few upgrades. Wish UA-cam would let people post a few photos with there comments ? Okay I'll make a video .
When you discussed the price I think you were very smart pointing out that it can be both a pro and a con. That was very insightful.
I just bought myself a Traeger for mother days. I was really nervous but My first chicken turned out great. My husband said he would keep me around for another 50 years if I keep cooking like this. Ribs are next!
That's awesome Ruth. Traeger cooking is easy peasy. Let me know if you ever have any questions
Hehe. Tell him to get off his butt and cook good things for you. I love cooking good food for my bride.
Ribs are the BEST on pellet grill.
I got a smoker for my wife. Excellent trade!
🙏❤️😁👍
Main difference to the new ones are the grates now separate into thirds making cleaning even easier! Also got a cast iron grate third if you want to sear that will get up to 500+ for a quick sear (pro tip use it upside down for a better sear)
Thank Jonathan
Also. You can buy pit boss pellets at Walmart for 8.00 a bag. They work just as well.
that's for sure! i have been using them for several months now

I purchased the insulated blanket for mine and it saves on pellets in the winter. It pays for itself over time.
Good tip. Less expensive than the Traeger blankets.
Its funny Ive always used charcoal grills. Never liked propane. One of my family members bought the Treagor and we liked it so much they bought me one as a gift. I will never go back to charcoal unless im camping.
Adrian P Where can I get a blanket?
Adrian P can you tell me what size and what the brand name is of the welding blanket you bought please and what size Treager you have? we are having a hard time with the wind here.
I really like my Traeger. It’s my favorite grill/smoker now.
My biggest con is the operating cost. Pellets are significantly more expensive than gas.
B&B championship blend! It’s the best, in my opinion. Awesome flavor. 40lb bag for under 20$ bucks.
Just got mine (Traeger Tailgater 20 Traveler Series Bronze Wood Pellet Grill) as a wedding gift, super excited to use it, thanks for an honest review
You got it. I hope it is working out well for ya.
I've had the same traeger for 8 years, only had to change the temp probe once. I've smoked thousands of pounds of meat on it so far. Love it!
Heck yeah! Try that on a propane?.....no way. Thanks for the comment!
@@thefreezedryingcommunity Like most folks, mine sits on the deck outside and I live in the upper reaches of the Rockies. I've fired mine up at 40 below many times and she just keeps tickin.
What type of traeger grill is that?
Similar experience. Changed out the fan. Love my Traeger.
@@comicsgator what do you guys think of this one on sale at Costco for $1000 www.costco.com/traeger-century-885-grill.product.100568794.html
I got shit when I bought mine, which was 2 weeks ago. I had to buy a shelf and a cover. It came with absolutely nothing at all.
Had mine about 6 yrs. now and love it. They have a great customer service, had a problem, called their tech support and got problem solved. They even sent me a part free of charge. No questions asked
You should be a spokesman for the company You answered all my questions and more Thanks looking forward to my Traeger grill
Order the Traeger shelf. It’s super awesome. Buy one today!
We purchased one for Christmas, combination grill/smoker. Foods are amazing! My husband really loves it! Can’t wait to try pizza 😍
I have the pit boss, big pro on it Is the flip back open flame. Can cook a steak and give it flame so u can flame broil it. I use a welding Blanket and fire bricks in the bottom and it holds heat and uses less pellets!
I just received my traeger yesterday and unpacked it and the leg whole was caved in and dents all over the back of the unit!
Just got mind in December of 18! I got to say my smoking and BBQ has gone to the next level overnight! You hit the nail on the head. Thanks
It takes an average griller and makes them a hero....myself included
Just bought my first one. Thanks for posting this video.
Trager smokes propane all day long. I use the large trager smoker at my restaurant smoking brisket, pork shoulder, chicken, ribs etc.
As far as pellets go, I know they also sell them at Walmart. They’re made by pit boss, but i like them. And I bought a 20lb bag for like 10 bucks. They also sell bigger bags too.
How many pounds of pellets to cook steaks or burgers?
@@micheleolson9914 I have no idea to be honest. But a 20 lb bag lasts me a good while.
After going back and forth for almost two years, we finally bought a Pro 34. Can't wait to try it out!
That’s crazy. I just bought a pro 34 today after wanting one for 3 years. Congratulations.
Have fun!
I am happy with the Big Tex!
That Weber is a universally known piece of junk
What is CL?
@@beccathib3656 I assume it means CraigsList.
Just got me one today

Thanks for the honest and very informative review, been thinking about buying a smoker, and it looks like Traeger's the way to go! 👌
Good choice!
I've been running Traegers for 20 yrs with almost zero issues. Replaced a fan once for $15. I love the Traeger. Why not own both pellet and propane! I use both.
That's awesome. Appreciate the positive testimonial.
For everyone considering a traeger, it a very good investment to buy the insulated blanket with it. Its a lil costly but in the long run your pellets last twice as long.
Great to know. Thanks for your comment
A moving blanket from Harbor freight/ wal mart will perform the same at a substantial saving
You're correct, the YS-640 is a beast that can smoke/grill/sear with the 2 piece diffuser open and grill grates
Have you had to replace anything Steve?
You can order them online from Traeger, See no problem. Also, tractor supply...which happens to be across the street from me :)
I bought 11 years ago and it runs like champ, the only thing I have had too change over the years is the igniter rods in the fire pit other then that it’s set it and forget it.
Just got mine little Traeger from Costco today ! Can’t wait to get smoking ! Thanks for the review !
Me too!
464batman same here. Their competition blend is great!
It's convenient, and I get spectacular results, but man three years on I'm kinda regretting not getting the green egg every time I have to go partially disassemble it to get it lit.
bummer. Which model do you have?
@@thefreezedryingcommunity Believe it is a Pro-Series 34-Inch. It's one with the gold grill cover, but black pellet cover. Likely 2017 manufacture date if there's different generations...
The oringnal Traeger were American made thick heavy steel body and barrel.they stop making them in 2007.the oringal pellet box was round just like the main cooking chamber,it was a tank and heavy, they are very hard too find..but built too last for years and years.
Good to know Tim. Mine still seems to be very good quality.
I think the timber line Sirius is made in America now. Had a cost of 1800 to $2,000. China makes the rest of them. Yoder is made in America.
Just put my Traeger together today. Very informative video, thank you.
Glad you found it helpful. Happy Grillin'
Mine usually holds within 5 or less. It spends much of the time with 2 degrees
Thank you for the great video. It was really helpful as I was searching for a nice pellet grill.
You can cover your drip tray with heavy duty tinfoil and about every 3rd cook replace it....... If you're out of tin foil or don't have time to cover the drip tray its no problem scraping it off with a bent handled paint scraper.
sometimes i use a power washer as well.
I’ve used a couple store brand pellets with good results. Half the price. Scheels has a couple different blends.
By the way I purchased my new grill for $75 dollars from a friend that didn’t want to spend time assembling.........yes I have finished assembling and ready to learn how the operation. Thanks for this video
Wow nice grab on the grill!
Ain’t nothin wrong with the Traeger,I love it.but I have a stick burner too,I love them both.
Does the stick burner give more wood flavor than the traeger? I have the traeger select and it doesn't seem to have a lot of smoke flavor, in fact very little, compared to my UDS.
Stick burner all the way but sometimes I don't have the time to tend the fire
The pellets are just about everywhere now! Even since i made the video i have seen them all kinds of new places.
Retired at 40- Live.Life.Simple. I’ll check some local spots. I also heard you have to use theirs or it voids the warranty?
Thank you for the review , I also own a Traeger and was just wondering why you never spoke about the hopper ,how much it holds , how easy it is to empty if you want to change out the pellets to a different flavour.I know myself it was important when I was buying to check that part out, but maybe that’s just me...lol , Great video though
Thank you. I love my treager .
I'm excited to be able to experience the Traeger 780 pro just got my first BBQ won it though the diesel brothers today
can't beat free!👓

To keep covered on cold or windy days, we use old fire turnout coats that are out of service.
I like your Rocking Chair!
1st thing I noticed was that rocking chair.

Awesome breakdown. I appreciate your video and take on the Traeger!
Glad it was helpful!
Why not have both? 4.5 gallons of propane only cost about $12 where I'm at. I think the treger pellet is a better value.
Never too late to join the party👌
@@thefreezedryingcommunity thanks....probably will still have a charcoal grill because some foods you just want that charcoal taste. Thanks again
Trae Davis you can get “off brand” charred hickory pellets that take care of that flavor
Go to Home Depot! Here in Memphis Tennessee the price is a bag of Wood Pellets
at Home Depot are $18.00 and most stores that store the bags of wood pellets (some bags burst and the clerk in that department lower the price to $12.00 a bag)
12 a bag! Nice!
Very Nice, Congrats
Very helpful as I decide on buying a new grill. Wondering if Wi-Fi is important.
You can sear a steak with the diffuser plate out, just leave the drip tray in place,I seared many delicous steaks on my Traeger,it will catch all the drips and go into bucket.try it it’s bad ass.
Is the diffuser plate necessary at all? Could you leave it out for most things and just use it for slow cooking?
What a great hand me down!
@@thefreezedryingcommunity so you have zero clue then
Pellet cost is going to be significantly higher than gas. About 2-3 times higher.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I am currently looking in to getting one. Currently have a nat-gas unit but, coming from charcoal, there is a HUGE loss of flavor. Looking forward to a Traeger. Subd ya bro. Peace+
You won't regret it
Get it!!!
My Traeger is about 3 years old. I clean it inside and out, but I never know when it’s going to work correctly. I’ve had to replace 2 motors, 3 of the little round parts that turn the auger; and I still get “ler” errors. I’m tired of it. I would not recommend Trager grills
mine is now 4 years old and never had an issue.

I’m on my second year with mine and I’m not happy with it’s construction at all
let us know how you like the green mountain. I am always open to try a new brand.
Thanks for your help..
most traeger cooks are lower temp and longer cook time.
I love too smell the smoke once it ignites, smells so damn good.
How do you compare to a Big Green Egg or Komodo Joe?
I’ve never used ether propane or pellet grill. I learned on a charcoal offset barrel grill and I still love it I might upgrade to a pellet smoker one day but I’m having a hard time getting away from it cause I love it so much
Each has their pros and cons. Let me know if you ever have any questions.
I was reluctant to do the wi-fi models only because it's one more thing that it is dependant on, but i can absolutely see how it would be helpful.
I just got mine today. It may be awesome going from gas to pellets, but I’m going from sticks to pellets. From what I’ve experienced so far, it’s gonna take some getting used to.
it's a whole different animal but becomes part of the routine.
I bought it 10 years ago and I love it..
👍 you have gotten your money's worth
Thank you so much. You shared a lot of great information.
Glad it was helpful!
I got a traeger but it’s a older one,with no fancy controller,American made,the new ones are made in 🇨🇳 China,since 2007
This is s nice cooking machine.
Good tip. Traeger is real proud of their accessories and like to charge alot for them.
are you using all 3?
@@thefreezedryingcommunity A welding blanket is a lot cheaper than the Traeger blankets but does the exact same thing for a lot less money.
I'm sure someone snatched up the used Traegers. That's most peoples hold up. Happy grillin!
