    51 year old “non pitcher” Ichiro throwing mid to high 80’s from the mound, over 120 pitches, 4 hits, sliding into bags. What an athlete! So great he’s trying to grow women’s baseball over there. 👏

  • @marcd1981
    @marcd1981 2 місяці тому +315

    The most impressive thing for me was the fact these girls were hitting pitches in the mid to upper 80s! Anyone that has played past high school knows these speeds, and even going to a batting cage and dialing up 80mph is not easy at all.

    • @Eric-zk2hu
      @Eric-zk2hu 2 місяці тому +45

      Yup, exactly what I was thinking. I was thinking surely there is a way to handicap the men's pitching against the girl's hitting. But if he was throwing mid 80 mph as a 51 year old former outfielder then he was not letting up for the girls hitting. The girls were impressive and it looked like both sides had a lot of fun. The girls were having the thrill of a lifetime, even if they had lost by 20 runs they would have wanted to play more innings.

      No, they wouldn't. I played 2 seasons of pro ball with the Cardinals organization in the 70s. We were based in Clarksville, TN and played our games at Austin Peay. We agreed to play a double header against the women's softball team. They beat us both games. I struck out twice, grounded out and got a bloop single...and I was our leadoff hitter. The ball comes at you alot different. Those pitchers throw between 75-85 mph from LL distance on flat ground. That's like 95-105 from 60 ft 6 inches. Respectfully, those HS girls wouldn't stand a chance. It's a different(and humbling lol) game.

    • @draheim90
      @draheim90 2 місяці тому +6

      I couldn’t hit upper 80s in high school lol. Also faced a pitcher who allegedly threw mid-90s (not sure how true) and couldn’t track the pitch well enough to even come close to making contact. Ball left his hand, I saw it for a brief moment, and next time I registered the ball it was already just a few feet from the plate, almost like it teleported. After I struck out on three pitches my first at bat coach yelled at me saying I had to do better and I just responded I’m not sure how I’m supposed to hit a ball I literally can’t see lol.
      Was a wild thing and only experienced it that one game, was worse than facing the fastest pitches at the local batting cage (which was advertised as 90 MPH). We also had our lefty ace who went on to play in the minors (but didn’t throw as hard as the opposing team’s guy, prob like 10 MPH slower) and the game was 0-0 until relievers came in a couple innings into extras.

    The desire to entertain makes the best use of good sportsmanship and less than perfect actions. More people go home feeling good without any regret about the outcome which professional sports cannot achieve.
