      Thanks Nick, I’ll do a run through each plot and the final finish when it’s not so windy! We will do lots of assessments on seed, roots, above ground plants, yield and grain quality.

      I wanted 5 more drills there but to run the event properly, there wasn’t time to do more than 10 machines.

    Another great video, lot of hard work and organising for all concerned especially you, be interesting the total value of drills and tractors, all the best for the demonstration, looking forward to the end result. Much appreciated. 👍

    Hi Andrew. Thank you for the time & effort in producing this video. Thankfully I scrolled through the comments so I now know the reason for the pit at the edge of the field. I had been wondering what it was for & erroneously concluded it was for a latrine for the attendees 😂.
    But. Could you please spoon feed me as to the purpose of the event as a whole. Is it to establish the best seed drill as evidenced in a years time by the plot with the greatest yield? They all seem so technical & brilliant is there going to be such a dramatic difference? Who actually benefits from an experiment like this? Just genuinely fascinated. Thank you so much.

    • @WardysWaffleAndrewWard
      @WardysWaffleAndrewWard  2 роки тому

      Thanks Darren, no the soil pit was not for attendees to relieve themselves!!!
      The aim of the day or the event was to see which drills would be able to plant seed in our difficult, sticky, clay soils because it’s very easy on sandy soils to plant crops without prior cultivation or soil movement but totally different on clay soils. We have to use less fuel in establishing crops to remain profitable and to help agriculture reduce our carbon footprint. There will be chance to sell carbon credits to other industries when we reduce our carbon footprint and become carbon negative. Some people have been direct drilling for a number of years usually that is on easy sandy soils but those who have tried clay soils say it takes upwards of 10 years for your crops to perform as well as they did when the soil was cultivated before planting the seed. So really the event was for us to plan for the future and try to remain profitable with all the issues around cost of production at the moment as well as provide other farmers with data to do the same.

    Thanks for the update, was looking out for it last night, but can see you had a very busy day. Good to see the manufacturers / dealers putting a great deal of effort into what looks to be an excellent demonstration. Your soil pit looks 'challenging', very similar to land around here in West Suffolk. Hope the day stays dry for you and hopefully the wind might help dry the top a little. Looking forward to your next update.

      Cheers Robert it was a brilliant day. A 15 min lunchtime heavy shower meant we had to change the afternoon plans and run it differently, you’ll see that in tonight’s video. The soil is not easy at all and exactly why I chose that field!

    That puma sounds the part! Is is a pree addblue and dpf model? Those emissions regs have strangled the lovely noises tractors used to make, two favourites of mine are the 6930 deere and the 3800 xerion. Lovely selection of drills 👍

    Hello Andrew, not long found your channel and enjoy your weekly waffle. Silly question may be but, whats the soil pit for in the field ? I've been out of farming 30 years

    • @WardysWaffleAndrewWard
      @WardysWaffleAndrewWard  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks Gareth, the soil pit is to show everyone the difference from top soil to subsoil and drainage capabilities. It showed the visitors why I chose that field and how difficult a soil it is to deal with.
