We need more small vans, not the current long As bus. People don't want to wait 30 minutes for a bus. More shorter trains so there is no wait time. NYC MTA does things opposite of a well run transit system. Let private business run vans. People want to save money and time. For example, it teaches me 1 hour to go from Hicksville Long Island to Chinatown Manhattan by car. Buy train with transfers etc., that's going to be at least 1.5 hour. If I'm wasting 1 hour round trip, I want a good saving on cost. However, my cost will be 22 for LIRR and 6 for the city train. That's about $28 for one person. It's crazy. Does anyone know if you can avoid it if you are coming in from the Holland and going around to the Manhattan Bridge by taking 9W and around to the FDR drive? the more direct route is Canal, but it seems that the exemption rules can let you avoid it, since you don't actually want to go into Manhattan but that is the most direct route from Jersey City and Hoboken to Long Island.

This policy has both positive and negative aspects. It will increase local inflation, which is already very high compared to the rest of the nation. Hopefully, there won't be an uptick in violent incidents in MTA, or they will have to hire more officers which will raise local taxes. At worst, NYC may price itself out of the market, so local authorities better make adjustments as necessary.

Love how all the naysayers are saying "People will just use fake plates". Do you not think the MTA and NYPD have considered that too? Technology is getting more sophisticated that it's so easy to track any car using fake license plates. You can thank so many cameras in the city for that.

the more direct route is Canal, but it seems that the exemption rules can let you avoid it, since you don't actually want to go into Manhattan but that is the most direct route from Jersey City and Hoboken to Long Island.
Why would u use a car in a big city like NY unless it is absolutley necessary for your job? Deal with parking and traffic. Better use public traport. I know it's bad but that what the charge is going to.

@@Johnwicker1903 do you understand how bulk delivery works? A truck carrying thousands to hundreds of thousands of dollars in goods is not going to break the bank at an extra $9 fee. In fact, they will actually benefit from this as the roads will be clearer of personal vehicles and can more efficiently deliver their goods. Time is money.

This policy has both positive and negative aspects. It will increase local inflation, which is already very high compared to the rest of the nation. Hopefully, there won't be an uptick in violent incidents in MTA, or they will have to hire more officers which will raise local taxes. At worst, NYC may price itself out of the market, so local authorities better make adjustments as necessary.
