Mihawu taking a selfie with Ancient Ogre killed me. But yeah Tag 2 is still a love letter to the TEKKEN franchise as a whole, the fanservice is actually outragous
"Miharu"
"Outrageous"
not every character got cool interactions, some just got one, i personally didnt get much but other characters then straight up got alot of that
Sadly i dont feel this love from tekken 7 and 8... I loved tekken tag 2 btw
@@Leadblast Oops my bad, not my first language haha
@@Leadblast miharuwu
Tekken Tag 2 was a love letter to the fans who loved the characters from older games like Kunimitsu, Jun, and Michelle as well as new ones, that was supposed to be played as an all-stars game for fun with friends rather than a competitive game that you had to take everything personally. A lot of people hated it because they took it too seriously, seeing the same complaints all over social media like rage, combo damage, tag gimmicks, 1 vs 2, Capo b+1,4, etc. and still don't realize that it was made for having fun with a friend or a group of people. Pair play was made for that purpose.
You are describing fighting games in general from the early 2000s
I remember always playing it with my father, such good times.
You have no idea how much I loved the Jinpachi/trueOgre game. Damn, it was way too much fun. Add the seemingly infinite juggle & setup options.. my goodness, what tekken it was.
Man, I am really going to miss Jinpachi and the Ogres...
I was so psyched to be able to play as them again for the first time in years. And now... the amount of time that has passed since TTT2 released is even greater than the years between TTT1 and TTT2. At this rate, we won't see TTT3 (or the return of legacy characters) until nearly 2040.
TTT2 was a game for the players, the pros and tournament sweats cried due to all the knowledge checks, but who gives a fuck about them
Absolutely love Tekken Tag 2. It's such a cool game with endless possibilities for tag teams and combos. Still play it more than Tekken 7.
me too, tag 2 was better than T7, sure the tag assault damage should have been toned down a bit more, and remove Capos B14, but the movement was great, you didn't get locked into a 50/50 as much, and so many characters were viable depending on what partner you had. PLUS not having guests and 2D bullshit and Leroy and T7 Kuni is great
I would definitely play Tag 2 over Tekken 7 more than I have already if it were ya know... available to purchase on modern consoles.
@@Beforezzz It is on all the XBOXes 360 and on.
@@dawavve Playstation store is garbage.
@@bludika I doubt Tekken team would balance it incase it became too popular, that's just how fighting game in general work cause people would go back to the same title instead of paying for new ones
I had an unhealthy amount of hours in TTT2. It started my competitive drive for Tekken in general. I'm a Fujin in T7 and I thought I'd never get this far in a game with so much knowledge checks and movement demands.
With who? Someone that actually plays Tekken or did you pick a mini game of a character?
@@chungusamongus519 I play Josie. She's pretty honest compared to most of the cast.
@@Messatsu01 i wouldn't say that :D
@@Messatsu01 Josie...Honest... Ummmm not really. I mean, she has a crushing hopkick, a df2 that hits from a mile away and crushes highs, a chunky low that hits from across the screen and pressure that is impossible to deal with unless you lab her. Plus, no one plays her so no one knows the mu until at least purple ranks (and I'm being too lenient with this statement). Okay she's no Eddy or Raven or Ling or Lei or Zafina, there are worse characters but she can carry really well.
@@Goteiii if you dont press buttons during her SWS, what's the worst that she can do to you? No grab game, her lows dont do much outside of just damage, she has no seeable nor unseeable natural hit low launchers, and no scary mids that create momentum. Compared to the characters that flood the competitive scene like Kuni and Marduk, she's pretty bearable.
Bro making your tag partner look like your character and vice versa was the funniest shit I've ever seen online. That shit legitimately got me some matches. Good times man.

The graphics are so good in its time plus the ending movies are so good
I'm gonna be honest. This game needs a 10 year anniversary release. I really wanna see how this game would do in the landscape now and days since this game deserves a second look. Tekken 7 is good fun but Tag 2 is SOOOO special and so many ways that make Tekken 7 pale in comparison even with mods. Tekken Tag 2 was a pretty good game. Played it back in 2013, kicked butt with Jin and Lars. The balancing was a human letdown. It requires you to understand at counter 50+ characters either alone or as a team. Best played with your mates at home.
I liked the World Arena feature. Made a bunch of a friends and sparring partners through there. It's far superior to the janky, unstable lobbies and automatching of T7.
But I just wanna see a teaser for Tekken 8 at this point. I'm starting to get bored to T7.
TTT2 was the game that got me to play competitively. I've been playing since Tag 1 and having all the characters was super fun. I will forever remember that wakeup electric that JDCR did at 4:02
If they make a Tekken Tag 3 it better be like Tag 2 but so much better. Take everything that made Tag 2 amazing and add on to that
10 whole years huh? Felt like a week tbh
Excellent video as always. Short, sweet and to the point. I hope the algorithm blesses you and many others get to enjoy your content too
This game is a victim of circumstance. It came out at a wrong time; too late for the golden days of the FG scene but too early for the modern FG scene and the increasing popularity and interest in the FG genre.
People often shit on it for being "too broken" or "not competitive", but what Tekken game was ever balanced in the first place? Games like Tag 1 and 6 were dominated by Mishimas/Ogres and Bob respectively and were plagued by balance issues, and they still saw a lot of competitive play. Even Tekken 7 - that is often considered the most balanced game in the series - gets shit for characters being too overpowered or combos being way too high damage, or even the online experience being too toxic (another thing Tag 2 gets shit for). Tag 2 is no different than any other game, but people pretend like it is. I will agree though, that the complexity and roster size did make this game much harder to get into competitively.
Tekken 7 was blessed by its marketing and release schedule. TTT2 was on three platforms but none of them were PC which would give it a chance of legs (look at Marvel 3). Tekken Ball is great but it is more accessible through emulating the Wii U than the Wii U.
@@thelastgogeta A PC port would've definitely gave it a better chance but I think it would've still not been as successful as Tekken 7. I guess a PC version would've meant a greater potential in resurgence in later years? And yeah Marvel 3 is a good example with its recent resurgence thanks to mods.
@@daddysaso Yeah, I don't think it would take over Tekken 7 but I think it would be in a good spot. It has a lot of content, but I've never seen a case where the new game with tons of marketing, DLC and official tournaments doesn't get most of the attention.
Melee or Project M is the only thing close to that but only Melee has a chance of any official marketing with no chance of mods (for rollback, added characters, rebalanced controls etc) being recommended.
This game will forever have a special place in my heart. I still play this game regularly with some homies, we never stopped playing it since release, back in its glory days we spent entire weekends playing this game, and even now we still discover new setups and strats. This game is a bottomless pit of "discord tech" and I love it with a passion. TTT2 for life.
Also 2012/13 was an era I was addicted to fighting games, both offline and online, and TTT2 was a big part of it lol.

Couldn’t be any more wrong although the decal system on consoles was the only saving grace
@@MSTRPRFKT They're right. 7 ain't close and T6 ain't better.

At least 7 allows hair color changes. I like Bryan, but fuck that gray.
after all this , i think we need a TTT3 , it's gonna be greate since the devolpement of the mechanics is reached it's peak
The thing I loved most about this game is how much personality the game had. Cool intro's, cool and unique outros, double takedown animations and it's huge roster. Tekken 7 is definitely more well-polished and crisp but it's lacking some of the personality tag 2 had for sure. Hope the next Tekken brings some of it's personality back
I remember this guy telling me that TTT2 sucks because it didn't have an EVO presence. That's a big issue because I feel T7 started catering to stuff like EVO and not the actual people that play it. Plus, Tag 2 (a non-canon game mind you), did more for the Tekken lore than T7 did.
T7 catering to evo stuff are the people who play. Comp scene player's have much more time on these games than the average player.
The competitive scene is the driving force of any competitive game. Without it, t7 would have ended up just like tag 2.
The competitive audience is only a fraction of most fanbases, especially Tekken which is far too big from "OMG you can play as a bear" and customisation being in many recent instalments.
They should definitely take the competitive base seriously, but which installment didn't? Just T4 with neutered movement and experimental stages (most of which could probably be banned in tourney like Smash) as far as I know.
Knee got JDCR back really good after that tournament in Final Round. He played Marduk and Bruce in the next tournament in Korea and kicked his ass so bad that JDCR was still on the arcade machine while Knee was holding the trophy.

I only disagree that customization in TTT 2 was that good. A decal system doesn’t make up for the absolute downgrade of customization options and combinations that we had in Tekken 6.
Wait what? I could swear TTT2 had pretty much the same amount of customization options as Tekken 6.
However, it’s a tragedy what they did to the customization after those two games.

If anything TTT2 option are closer to T7s. T6's was the peak of customization. That being said the latter had some uniqueness of its own (despite how minimal and generic it was)
In T6:
Only Armor King had Knights armor
Only Bob had the Sentai suit
The samurai parts were exclusive to Jin
TTT2: Made these and a lot more clothing universally accessible to the whole roster, at the expense of
accessorize items and footwear, etc. and also just took other clothing options being out right removed.
The Decal tool of course is amazing.
Theirs some pros and cons but the overall consensus is that the entirety of customization has gone down over the years.
It still offers more than T7s customization tho
That is debatable.
TTT2 allowing full color customization alone made it 1000% better than Tekken 6's system of "here is 14 more of the same item but in a different color". Also custom hair looked hideous in T6, like a wig. TTT2 did it much better.
I did miss being able to select gloves and shoes separately though.

Tekken Tag 2 is such a great package for a long time Tekken fan like me, because I can once again play with characters that had been gone for a while.
I don't know if it's appealing to fans of other games though. And that was perhaps the main cause of its stunted growth in popularity.
i remember it was christmas of 2012 when my parents gave me tekken tag 2 for Christmas. ever since i was little i always loved tekken and this game was really the absolute best. i was so happy to see jinpachi as a playable character ever since i played tekken 5.

I still have tekken tag 2 on ps3 and it's still a fun game lol, great video man :)
i actually bought a ps3 again just to play this game again. it was the best tekken game i've ever played
honestly the only thing I hated about the game as a casual player, is that once one of your characters died, that was the end of the round. It would have been so crazy to watch people come back from a certain loss with their last character at mid/low health when the opponent still has both their characters
That Sonic Colors ost…so nostagic
The days of me playing the 360 version. It was so toxic lol. I didn't get my experience of toxic xbox rage messages with halo or cod, it was this game. And then for some reason I though it would be a good idea to get a mic... you can imagine the rest. I mained both LAWS and was sliding everytime just to see my aponent reaction and man it was bad... some dude said he was gonna report me to the police, death threats, countless "Your mum" insults... I heard guy throw his controller to the window no joke and it broke and another dude arguing with his girl... which I think they are not together that's for sure XD, dude I was laughing so hard and yes i contributed to the toxic environment especially when you get to the Orange ranks you found the same dudes over and over and we would insult each other as soon as the loading started... the deafets where so bad since you felt both cheated by the game and weak because your gimmick play was not good enough... but then the victories... especially against trash talkers... it was another feeling... when they added the game to xbox back compatibility, i spent another 5 or 6 months playing it after i didn't touch for like 4 years playing SF4 Arcade Edition. It was not as toxic as before though (xbox 1 users simply didn't use mics for some reason and i didn't get as many messages... just the odd "Go F yourself" here and there) but it was still fun none the less... i think I stopped a year before Tekken 7 came out... the match making was so long and trying out combinations was not as fun any more... but this game (as bad as it was in retrospect) has a place in my heart. I will never forget those nights just spending a whole 10 or even 15 bucks on junk food, crisps, drinks and just spend hours playing this game and for that this game is MY GAME in my heart....

It was truly ahead of it's time, even if it asked for a lot of patience lol, especially if one was a scrub who didn't know what Bryan's snake edge was back then 😂. Online must've been worst than 7 😅 but if it's just for casuals, it's one of the best Tekken games hands down imo.
Really cool to get some lore and background stories of the game's online scene. I didn't even know some of those things lol
Online was pretty cool back then, much improved netcode from Tekken 6 and the World Arena had a lot of chill people in there more than I would have expected. With so many tag fighters out there these days I find the statement that it's hard to learn 2 characters and having to fight 2 characters is a little overstated, at least for this game. It's generally easier to get a hang of this game than the others. Easy to get into, slightly harder to actually master but not by an abysmal amount.
Come on man, learning characters in 2d tag fighters is way simpler than in games like tekken having way more moves and gimmicks. In tekken it's way harder to play without knowing the match up at all than in any other games.
