  • Hi everyone, today I'll show you how I made spun cotton clown based on characters of a doll artist, Ima Naroditskaya. Here you can see the original glass Xmas ornaments I was inspired by: www.imanarodit...
    Here is the link for part 1 video where I showed making a clown: • DIY Christmas circus o...
    Here is the mold I used for the face: aliexpress.ru/...
    I made the cast out of Sculpey polymer clay and used some Fimo leftower green clay to fill the inside, as I was short of Sculpey.
    I used spun cotton roll, selling at pharmacy to make this ornament, as well as white glue. If your glue is too sticky and you cannot work with cotton, just dilute it with water a little.
    I also used pearl pen for buttons, like this one: www.amazon.com...
    And I accentuated all edges with contour paint: www.amazon.com...

    I LOVE this little clown you made, and I'd love to try making one myself. Could I use liquid polymer clay, such as TLS/Translucent Liquid Sculpey to make the face or should I use a solid polymer clay, like Premo? BTW, I only found your channel about a week ago, but since then I've been binge - watching your videos because they're so interesting and beautiful. One of my favourites of your videos is the Restoration of The Russian Doll that was made in1917. It's so impressive and your attention to detail is amazing. I especially loved the way you use all those antique items in your restoration videos, such as the old brass scales, the apothecary bottles that you store various powders and potions in and the glass block and tool that you use to mix paint pigments with paint mediums.

      Hi, thanks a lot! I used solid polymer clay here (I believe it was Living doll Sculpey brand)

    You are a wonder. I have been mesmerized since I found your UA-cam channel. I watch way to late because I just can’t turn off your programming. I originally watched a doll restoration- your are amazing!!! Now I am watching how to make cotton ornaments, 3D molds, and dolls. How do I get the supplies to pursue this activity. I live in Tallahassee, FL and have access to ordering online. Can you help me get started? Any reference material I can get? Sorry for the long message. I am totally enjoying your program. • @IrenesDIY
      @IrenesDIY  Рік тому

      Hi Margie, I'm happy you loved the videos) to make cotton ornamnents best is to use spun cotton in rolls, I usually leave the links for all the materials in the description box below the video. You find cotton rolls online on Amazon, and for a very first try you can also use cotton balls , they're a little less comfortable to work with, but this is what you probably already have) you will also need any water based paints (watercolors, acrylics or tempera all will fo) and the cheapest white glue you can find (like from Dollar tree)

    Dear Irene I try to make this ornamentes I don’t know how you do it but mine the layers of cotton gets very soggy do you let the cotton dry between every la yer, I see in your video that you don’t even make a mess with the glue thanks for an excellent tutorial

    • @IrenesDIY
      @IrenesDIY  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Bertha, yes, I usually let the ornament dry if it becomes too soggy. I can leave it for the whole night near the heater if I need it to keep shape, or just use a hairdryer if I need to dry it a little in the process of work (it will still be quite soft as not fully dry, but the upper layer will not be sticky then and you'll be able to hold the ornament safely)

    Irene do the polymer clay needs to be baked to make the faces of ornaments like your circus ornaments?or did they dry by themselselves

    • @IrenesDIY
      @IrenesDIY  3 роки тому

      Here I used polymer clay that has be baked(I think this was Sculpey Living Doll), but you can use self-hardening clay as well, I know many artists who work with cotton prefer using self-hardening clay)
