- From November 3rd, 1988, here is the famous "Geraldo" show where he had a bunch of hate-mongers on his show. They got into a brawl, someone sent a chair flying at Geraldo, and broke his noise! Intense stuff here!

Lmfao. I snorted some Diet Coke through my nose when I heard that loser claim his “education” was playing baseball. All three of those turds barely graduated from high school and of course had zero college courses to their credit. If they didn’t pretend they were erudite and had a grasp on their specific philosophy of “notsee” blather I wouldn’t necessarily point this out but they deserve to be called out. The fact that dingdong thinks “seven years of baseball” equals a college degree is bizarre. tells me everything I need to know about their “philosophy” and its sophistication (lmao) and appeal.

That's not my favorite part. I like the part that starts at 13:45. I remember seeing this on TV as it was happening and I had never seen Giraldo let a guest get to him like this before. Fortunately Giraldo knew it would hurt his career if he was not able to control himself. I like Giraldo a lot but I wanted to see him smack the guy. It was great.
I can watch that part 10 times in a row and I still laugh out loud every time.

Amazing 34 years ago! After just graduating high school Geraldo was not my top priority, but I do remember when it happened because of the publicity. I remember thinking the white supremacist were three ignorant clowns and I feel the exact same way today! This episode of Geraldo involving white supremacists, anti-racist skinheads, black activists, and Jewish activists. A confrontation between John Metzger (the son of Tom Metzger) and Roy Innis (in which Metzger goaded Innis by referring to him as "Uncle Tom") led to Innis walking over to Metzger and forcefully grabbing him by the neck after Metzger threateningly stood up in Innis’ face, and subsequently a full-scale brawl with chairs hurled and punches thrown. Audience members, several stage hands and Rivera himself got involved, throwing a few punches at a white supremacist. In the process, Rivera was struck in the face by a chair and wound up with a broken nose. He did not press charges, saying he did not wish to be "tied up with the roaches", and also claiming "if there ever was a case of deserved violence, this was it". The ratings for this show went through the roof as news of the fight attracted attention to the episode even before it aired.
From that point on, the less graceful side of society's issues, and juicy celebrity exposés were the norm, but no other future incident matched the heated fist-fight of season two. Geraldo's symbol in the grand scale of talk shows became typified by what opened each show: the image of a fictional supermarket tabloid magazine cover displaying images of the day's subject with a screaming headline. This practice paved the way for later talk shows using creative and somewhat drawn-out titles for their show topics (The Jerry Springer Show, Inside Edition, Jenny Jones, and Ricki Lake were among the programs to jump on this bandwagon).
The brawl served as the inspiration for the Law & Order Season Four premiere "Sweeps"; also, the Beastie Boys mentioned it in their 1989 song "What Comes Around": "You're all mixed up like pasta primavera/Yo, why'd you throw that chair at Geraldo Rivera, man?"
It was paroided on the 1989 film UHF, starring "Weird Al" Yankovic, parodies Geraldo, including the infamous 1988 brawl. The season 2 opener of Saved by the Bell features Kelly's dream sequence in which Screech Powers (Dustin Diamond) is now Geraldo Screech at Bayside, which takes place at The Max. The Family Guy episode "Fifteen Minutes of Shame", which featured the Griffins appearing on a talk show, parodied the infamous 1988 brawl by having Peter shout "Who are you calling 'Uncle Tom'?!" and throwing a chair.

I was watching this on my lunch break
So I have been reading a lot of the comments saying that the black gentleman started everything because he stood over him and got violent. The point we should take away from this is that hatred breeds hate. We should all learn from this and just learn to love one another regardless of their skin color religion or anything of the sort. It is so disheartening to hear this from these young men. Hopefully we learn from this and eliminate the hatred and practice love and acceptance.

There are many good hearted people out there and shining a light on people with evil in their heart can be beneficial. I think stories of compassion and love will weed out the stories of hate and evil people. It is just where you look and practicing love on a daily basis regardless of skin color, gender background or anything. We are all brothers and sisters in this world and I like to believe even if it naive that notion will shine through. Love is powerful and that is what keeps me going even with the dread in this world.

That interaction was a perfect example of todays problem. Words are words and violence is violence. Buddy got triggered by a word and felt the need the start standing over and then choking the guy who said words. He then went on to try and justify his actions by saying he was verbally ASSAULTED. The only assault that happened was the physical assault of him choking a guy. Everyone needs to relax and get along.

This pathetic Geraldo show only prompted his producers to start trashing it up like this. Shortly after Jerry's show did that, they could no longer get lucrative sponsors for the remainder of the series.
@U.S.A. If you notice, Geraldo had an educated audience, unlike Jerry's later uneducated audience. This is the way normal people would react to a brawl like this, not laughing, applauding and screaming "Jerry! Jerry!"
