I read somewhere that another deep closer is pretty much the last type breeders would pick as mate for Zenyatta, a deep closer herself. Her owners have been picking studs with some tactical speed -- neither War Front nor Bernadini nor Tapit nor Medaglia D'Oro were closers, so far as I can remember. You want the stallion to compensate for the mare's weaknesses ; Zenyatta lacked tactical speed.
Quite obviously closers don't won the Derby. The only way they can is if the race falls apart usually due to an off track. Other than that speed rules. BTW Secretariat was not a closer.

Unreal performance, came from absolutely nowhere looking like a 5f sprinter! Wow.

Exaggerator should give Nyquist some stiff competition in the Run for the Roses, especially if it's a sloppy track. That is a hard driving finisher.
Only Midnight Lute had a more explosive kick in the slop
mabey zenyatta should have babies with exagerator...that was unbelievable speed from going from so far back to so far ahead at the end.
