@coach Al ...love the videos bro! i'm coaching a group of 8 and 9 year olds and i need a little advice on how to teach/coach drills that focus on 1.Fast Break layups with a defender on the ball handler 2. Making close layups like when we get an offensive rebound and there are multiple defenders surrounding the rebounder. My center gets offensive boards a lot but has trouble putting it back up for 2 points! thanks
just focus on the basics, you dont have to do anything special. I would do mican drills and beginner layups for all players ... here are some videos Mican Drills (video is from coaches membership) ua-cam.com/video/nWIEAbvNUuk/v-deo.html Make more layups ua-cam.com/video/J45P6HZZggE/v-deo.html teaching layups ua-cam.com/video/eDfy09uHcqc/v-deo.html Layups from rebounds ua-cam.com/video/4GFRMPNGwCE/v-deo.html
the app I record my self using doesn't exist anymore but it was called Coachbase .. I use my Mac to record my iPad and voice and then edit in final cut
I coach a 12U team and a lot of the kids are still learning dribbling and not moving around. We are playing kids taller and stronger. Would this work ?
they would be against man as most leagues at the younger age group wouldnt be running a zone. However most of these plays can work against a zone defense
Thanks for the videos. I'm coaching (first time) a group of elementary kids, most of whom have never played before. Although they are not necessarily all chasing the ball and clumping together, the speed of the game, and the constant pressure by defenses, makes the whole game rather chaotic. It becomes a track meet, not a basket ball game. We can't run plays because no one gets set in their position, or if they do get set, they quickly get trapped by the D and tend to just throw the ball away like a hot potato, causing turnovers. Any suggestions on how to slow it down and stay better organized?
I would have the team run through the drills in practice against a strong defense and do some 1 on 1 zig zag drills... give me a few days and I can make a video.
@@bballcoachallen I too am having the same issues with a team I coach. We have tried running a 5 out motion but the kids aren’t skilled enough to execute anything. Plays are worthless to try. How can I combat this? We have games currently twice every weekend and practice Monday and Wednesdays. Should I stop calling plays in games?
in all the leagues I have seen in Canada I have seen you can run screens for all ages ... for the USA I have heard of a few leagues that dont run screens but most do
Igino, at least in our league in the US it isn’t uncommon to see some girls and boy teams as young as 7/8 years old running some very simple screen plays. Keep in mind teams must run man defense until 10 years of age (5th grade here) in our league.
could try a tight zone, or a man to man defense without switching at the screens and having your players fight through the screen... but it is a very good play when ran properly
Basketball Coach Allen I agree. I run man to man to exclusively so I wanted to know how to combat that. Another question for you sir is how to defend against the double screen on a player at the top of the key?
for which play, the box play where the high post players screen down? ... If that is the play your talking about you want the tall players in the high post, the reason is you hope that the defenders switch off so your tall players are in the low post with a shorter defender.

If you get the rebound just tell them to pass it out
The second play puts a lot of pressure on the point guard. That is a tough pass from the top, especially if you are being closely guarded.
never seen an issue like that happening
Thanks for the tips bro!!!!
your welcome
Good content ever
Thank you
Great tips. However as a youtuber myself, I’m wondering what software or technique you’re using to show these graphic movements. Very cool!

No Problem... Thanks for sharing my video. I hope you win a lot of games!

What KID can make a 3 point shot can we get some stuff for 7-8 year old average players
Hey im canadian too!! I play for milton stags
Nice how is your team doing?
Our team won lots of tournaments
Im a player btw
nice, I was guessing you were a player lol ... I'm down the highway from you, I'm in Hamilton good job on winning lots of tournaments!!
@@bballcoachallen thx
What number does each position represent?
1/2 guards 3/4 forwards 5 center
Great video! I do similar videos but for hockey!
Hey Basketball Coaches this is my cousin, if you are a Hockey Coach or player you need to check him out.
Perfect for kids
thank you, glad you enjoyed :)
2 and 1 are dope....whatchu got against a 2 1 2 defense though?
thanks... heres a video on beating a 2-1-2... ua-cam.com/video/YnlD18XwuEg/v-deo.html
it would be a much better video if you actually put the defense in.
I agree... next time
maybe I will do a rework on the video and add defense in a few weeks

Screens for 12yo players? In Italy federation would burn your coaching license... Does it really work like that in North America?
in all the leagues I have seen in Canada I have seen you can run screens for all ages ... for the USA I have heard of a few leagues that dont run screens but most do

@@JKPaasch in Italy zone defense and screens are heavely frowned upon until 14 yo
Yup it does, you can see some pretty young kids setting screens.
How do I defend the last play??
could try a tight zone, or a man to man defense without switching at the screens and having your players fight through the screen... but it is a very good play when ran properly
Basketball Coach Allen I agree. I run man to man to exclusively so I wanted to know how to combat that. Another question for you sir is how to defend against the double screen on a player at the top of the key?
have your defending player fight above the screens
Is it ok if my team do one of these plays?
Yea go for it you can use the play
Thx!
Im a player btw
What's up coach
not much ... just about to go to sleep lol... how are you doing?
Basketball Coach Allen just got out off work what's your pick for both game 7s in the NBA playoffs
im picking Boston and GSW
Basketball Coach Allen I got Houston and Cleveland
ah the opposite as me lol ... we'll see :P
hi
hello
In The League I Play In Alot Of 2-3 Zone Is Played Will Thses Work Against The 2-3 Zone And Thank You In Advance
they mostly will work against a 2-3 zone, however here is a video of better plays against a 2-3 zone: ua-cam.com/video/RVCKuFoaYHM/v-deo.html
Thats motion 1/2
I run that first play
thats good :)
Cook
?
I it's not helping but ok
Dunb
that make no sense
which part?
Basketball Coach Allen Well usually when i play, we put 2 and 3 where 4 and 5 are
for which play, the box play where the high post players screen down? ... If that is the play your talking about you want the tall players in the high post, the reason is you hope that the defenders switch off so your tall players are in the low post with a shorter defender.
