A cool easter egg in "Ocarina of Time" when in the child era at night with the Stalfalos in Hyrule Field, is if you stick to the path in Hyrule Field at night, the Stalfalos will never spawn and attack link, similar to how enemy encounters work in Adventure of Link's overworld.
16:15 fun fact, that lesser hyrule area at the end of death mountain IS the whole area from Zelda 1. The map matches the land of the first game. Spectacle rock at the top, lake hylia and the forested areas, the graveyard on the left...
I grew up with Legend of Zelda and it remains one of my all time favorites. I never played Zelda 2 growing up. As I got older I kept hearing that this game is bad, or the black sheep. It scared me from trying it because I didn't want to ruin my perception of early Zelda games. Last year I finally played Zelda 2 and....I freaking love this game. It's now one of my favorite nes games. I'm not a fan of trying to compare Z2 to other games. It is its own game. Once I got the basic strategy down it's not too hard either. I'm not the best gamer. All I know is that this game does not deserve its bad reputation over the last 10 years. Amazing amazing game
Zelda 2 is my favorite Zelda game. It's also one of my favorite games of all time. Most of the people I know who hate this game are kids who grew up with the N64, fell in love in Ocarina of Time, and wanted to play more Zelda. They go play the older titles and cried about Zelda 2 difficulty. Most of us who grew up with the series didn't see it as the black sheep because there were only 2 games for a good while. Calling this game the black sheep only started happening about 10 years ago.
You and I appear to be near the same age, based on your comment. I, too, had Zelda 2 as a child, and preferred Zelda 1 over it, though I have come around to Zelda 2 in recent years. That said, just because people weren't using the term "black sheep" in regard to Zelda 2 back then, doesn't mean that the design choices made in the game weren't problematic in the moment. If you look at back issues of Nintendo Power, you can see people writing in talking about the difficulty of the game and wishing it was more like the first one.
Multiple times, you make mention of the "Zelda formula" and how this game veering from it is what makes it bad. This is only the second game in the series. The "formula" had yet to be established yet. If you were alive to play it when it was current, you'd understand that it was the early days of gaming. Devs were experimenting with everything to find their "formulas". Throwing as much as they can at a wall to see what sticks. It is extremely unfair for you, as a member of a younger generation, to judge this game on what came after it. I owned this game when it first came out. I can appreciate what it is, rather than what it isn't. Personally, I think this game did an admirable job within the limitations of its time.
Links awakening is a direct sequel to a link to the past, with the same incarnation of link, whereas a link between worlds is like a century after alttp with a descendant of the previous link
One thing that always bugged me about Zelda 2 is where did his gear from the first game go? He should still have the bow, boomerang, etc. Hell, what happened to the raft? Did it break? Is that why he needed another one? I guess his dinky sword is still the magical sword from zelda 1? 😅
Sword looks like a butter knife Sword beams have limited range Enemy projectiles have unlimited range No subweapons, an elf needs his bow Only projectile attack uses valuable magic No rupies to buy equipment Way too many pitfalls Zelda isnt the real Zelda This game sucks
People give Skyward Sword crap for being too linear but at least the challenges were fair. This game is so cheap I keep thinking I'm playing Castlevania 1.
the best zelda game imo :) the only sidescroller and so much nice content. I was never a fan of the 3d games and the dumbed down kidversion of link where he is chubby and looks like a toddler ^^
Just finished the video. "Matt's Reviews?" Maybe you should stick to reviewing games that came out when you were little. Wind Waker, or something along those lines. The series seems to have progressively become worse after Ocarina of Time. Majora's Mask was the first Zelda game I hated.
@@icenine09 then what do you call Z1? If it's not Zelda 1 or Z1, like do you call it The legend of Zelda or TLOZ maybe Hyrule Fantasy or HF because of the Japanese name?

Sir this is a Wendy's.
Good catch. Wasn’t aware of that.

Sad it never got some kind of remake in anyway shape or form.

I think it could be compared to Y's III, which is also the black sheep of it's respective series for almost the same reason

This game was awesome, don't know when you were born but I have played several of the new Zelda games and Majora's mask is the worst one ever created.

She is the real original zelda. You a kid who don't understand.

Majora's mask sucked. Don't understand why they would make the sequel to such a good game with that shitty ass time metric.

people can have an opinion
So, just bitching about Zelda 2 for half an hour. Unsubscribed. Bonus negative points for using the term "Zelda 1". 🙄
What's wrong with using the term Zelda 1? I'm an avid Zelda fan and everyone calls the first game either Z1 or Zelda 1
@@Deltabolster I don't like it. That's what's wrong with it. 🤷♂️

I agree, this dude's an idiot. Another child crying about Zelda 2.
Worst Zelda game of all time.
So you think the cdi games are better?
@@KeinNiemand My bad I forgot about those.
