Good for you guys for letting that family climb around the Tesla. I feel like many other UA-cam channels would’ve been like, no we’re shooting. When in reality, you’re doing your job for people physically and digitally. Good for you guys. That’s what it’s all about.
And despite trying to coach them into saying that they didn’t like it - they really like it.
The family dynamic in this video was a great addition for entertainment value. However when it's a hat sideways crack dealer on a street corner yelling "nice ride" from the sidewalk......

@@Ezekiel903 I have been saying the same thing about Tesla and other Auto manufacturers for a few years now. We are just at the threshold where they will start implementing the Cell Phone and Laptop sales model. Every new update will reduce and increase battery usage, and life. They have already adopted the micro transactions model with these new EVs and are pressing hard to initiate that into existing and newer ICE vehicles, wanting to charge monthly for pre installed and payed for at purchase heated seats, auto start, heated windshields, etc, etc.
lol more like YOU are doing the testing. Engineers are using the data collected/analytics.
No, you buy the vehicle, and then you DO the testing FOR the engineers

A totally stock 80s toyota pickup or jeep cherokee can run all that easy.. And whats with all these newbie names frame bender and one tree hill.. Lol. Uhm ok
The fact that this is one of the trails the rental jeep companies recommend should give you an idea of it's difficulty. "hi, I have zero experience off road and have never driven a Jeep, where should I go with your vehicle?" "Fins and Things is a good trail...."
Unlike most of these off-road vehicles you refer to, the Tesla is extremely heavy and requires very stiff tires which cannot be aired down like others to give you the edge for the traction. Sadly as nice as it is it is basically a mall crawler. I would like to see it compared to a Subaru in the same situations. Considering my son and wife have them I'm still not a fan of the Subarus and currently looking to purchase a 2023 Tacoma with a V6.

He took a much easier line on Framebender with the Cybertruck than they did with the Raptor. The Cybertruck's right wheels went down the constant slope and not the drop-off.
This should be the top comment. Pretty dumb to even include it and semi dishonest to film from a different angle and say it was the "same test". They just knew it would wreck the truck and decided to fake it for some reason.
I noticed that as well and was pretty surprised considering the consistency that TFL has in terms of their testing.
Yep, I was thinking those same things. Pretty lame that they said they were comparing it to the Raptor but didn't want to actually test it and show the damage farmebender would do.
I will say I have a huge amount of respect for the tfl team taking on this endeavor and letting that nice Canadian family look at the truck. Really shows me that they are true car people wanting to share in the weirdness and share in the polarity good bad or indifferent
When you off-road with Cybertruck just remember your Honda generator when you need charging.

I believe Tesla says remove this plastic wheel fairings before you go off road. Other UA-camrs found they will snap off if you don’t pull them as recommended.
or get the Invincible OFF ROAD package from Unplugged Performance.
Yeah I read in the Cybertruck Manual to Remove wheel fairings: Cybertruck has pieces of plastic trim that descend in front of the wheels from the rocker panels on either side of the vehicle. These are the wheel fairings. The wheel fairings increase aerodynamic performance and range, but may be damaged while driving off-road over rough, uneven surfaces, rocks, or obstacles. To prevent damage, remove the front wheel fairings before off-road driving. For more information and instructions for removing the wheel fairings, refer to the Do It Yourself Guide (see Do It Yourself Maintenance).
That’s cool, Toyota doesn’t say anything in the book to remove body parts on their trucks. 😂

@@danharold3087 but i mean that shouldnt matter, I Was looking more in terms of all that money and it cant do it as easy. Wouldnt the weight at least help with traction? Not that its muddy or anything here.
@@rmat9023 To more easily see this think about a truck on a 30 or so degree incline. Gravity is trying to pull the truck down the incline. The more weight the more it pulls. If we add enough weigh it will break lose and slide back down.
It is more complex that this but it illustrates some of the problem.
The cyberTrucks were designed to be inexpensive to build. Yes they are high now but they are also profitable after 1 quarter of production.
The casting eliminated around 400 parts. No significant paint shop will save huge and the line does not wait for paint to dry. If they get a handle on managing the SS this could be the shortest fastest build ever. Short + fast equates to lower cost.

But I think the takeaway is that the truck should’ve been more capable as is from the factory considering the equipment you paid for before it was delivered to you. Y’all are overlooking the fact that they don’t have to live with the vehicle they’re at WORK reviewing it for us, the REAL guinea pigs.
A comment was made as to how much pressure Tesla staff felt internally to finally deliver a truck that was getting universally panned for being late. Letting the software come later for proper offroading was the right decision given very few people actually go offroading in their trucks, or if they do, only a relatively small fraction of the time.

You get a lot of credit for actually taking it on a trail like this and letting people look at it. However, you need to mention the fire risk on any EV review. EV fires, particularly from Tesla products are very common now. These trucks have an even bigger battery to burn.

Thanks for testing like this, not just another tesla person learning to offroad. The locker would really help and I am at a loss why it is still not available. Maybe hard to find a way on an AWD to keep people from turning it on during regular driving? There are a number of oddities I have also seen from other videos. The cut power rather than brake lock, but also I do not know why none of the adjustable height vehicles do not find a way to increase the ride height without stiffening the heck out of the suspension. There has to be a way to do it that is not completely expensive. Also I know that the electric motors have full torque from the start line but I still think a two speed gear ratio would really help with the low speed off road heat buildup and resolution of the motor like a stepper motor and allow low speed finesse.
You guys are going to lose your tail when you go to sell this unit

Both trucks are ridiculous for rock crawling. They can’t do what a CJ will do. Use them for blasting across a desert, which was the original design intent for both trucks. That and looking so very cool when mall crawling.
Sadly the Wrangler is the last man standing in terms of outright capability off-road. Everybody just wants to make go-fast desert stuff with 700 hp because it looks/sounds flashy, but a $50K (ok, they are getting pretty pricey too) Rubicon will walk right around them as soon as the first obstacle appears on the trail.

Let be honest…it’s an EV. It has to do everything OK. You know why the plastic is there, you know why they have 20”wheels, take it for what it is. I don’t like the truck but take it for what it is. Side note, very cool that you stopped and let the family look at the truck. Great respect l.
My 2024 Colorado ZR2 has to do everything ok too, and guess what? Except for acceleration, it does it all BETTER, at half the price.
@@kx8960 Gas and maintenance costs add up over the life of the vehicle. Upfront cost of an EV is higher, but it is offset to some degree over time.
They DID take it for what it was marketed as... an OFFROAD CAPABLE VEHICLE.
@@kx8960 Maybe compare the towing and bed capacity.
@@danharold3087 Maybe if that was important I would have bought a full size instead? No, offroad capability was key. But thanks for playing!
I'm glad you reviewed instead of waiting for the features because Tesla deserve the bad reviews. It's bad to release a vehicle without features
Raptor R vs a non offroad version grocery getter on street tires.
If electric trucks are useless, the Cyber Truck is the King of useless. My god that thing is even uglier on the trail.
it really is ugly on the trail especially
Don't buy first releases. The good news is that updates won't end for quite a while. I fully expect software will make that truck better than anything you've tested.
We are degenerating as a society, there is nothing “next gen” about this pile of uncut aluminum.
LoL Toxic People here in comments 😂
It's literally a marvel of engineering and a minimalist masterpiece straight out of a dystopian Blade Runner future
