    Just a theory of mine, I think the Falmer fisherman you mentioned is a reference to Gollum from The Hobbit, when he is first encountered by Bilbo. In the book, Gollum lived alone deep under the Misty Mountains on an island in a dark, cold lake. He would mainly eat the black fish that spawned in the lake, but he would occasionally kill and eat goblins who dared to stray into his territory.
    I think the second hut is a nod to Gollum's life as Smeagol as well. In his "hobbit" life, Smeagol was fishing with his best friend and cousin Deagol, and it was Deagol that found the one ring in the river. Smeagol killed Deagol to gain the One Ring for "his birthday", and thus began his downward spiral into the creature known as Gollum. I think the other hut is supposed to be a nod to Deagol.

    I feel like the dragons soul is trapped in the orb and the dwemer used the power of its soul to heat and give light to the city. They would have the means to do this as well considering that they can read elder scrolls and the scroll found in blackreach is the dragon elder scroll. The color of light that the orb gives off is also the same color a dragons soul gives off when you kill it. the more i think about this the more i think it was some kind of device to stow dragon souls.

      That's actually a good theory; what better way to gain light and heat than from the soul of an elder dragon? I think that the dragons with names are all either elder or legendary dragons; or rather, supposed to be anyway. Even though the first dragon you fight (after meeting Delphine) is a total pansy. Then again, by the time I've gotten around to fighting said dragon; I've wandered the entirety of Skyrim and have reached level 20 or 30. Don't know why, but each time I restart Elder Scrolls; I end up wandering Skyrim until I've leveled up to at least level 15 before even reaching Whiterun for the first time.

    • @McPlayer8t
      @McPlayer8t 4 роки тому +21

      No, I see where your coming from, but there are a few things that don’t line up. What the orb does I do not know, but the dragon came from the distance, not out of the orb. I would guess the dragon was attracted by the loud clank sound made when you shout at the orb.

    • @Coliflower185
      @Coliflower185 4 роки тому +18

      Or, it was a dragon that took a mountain from a group of dwarves, then, when the dwarves came back to stop him, he decided to destroy a nearby town for no good reason. Then he was shot by a man in this town, and nearly killed, but when the Dragonborn shouts at the big orb, for some odd reason, it pulls him through time and space to a different reality, and appears in blackreach

  • @paulgrattan3885

    Regarding the giant, the Dwemer could talk to the giants. It's how the Dwemer got labeled dwarves. The ancient Nords saw the Dwemer talking with them and said they looked like dwarves talking to the giants and the name stuck. So the Dwemer either knew how to communicate with them either language or maybe psychic communication or maybe sign language.

      Personally. I think one of the Dwarves down there considered themselves to be a bit of an archeologist. By the time Blackreach was at its height, the Nords would have already been in Skyrim for over 1000 years. So its quite possible one of the Dwemer had a whole collection of Atmoran settlement artefacts and this stone pillar was just part of their collection, displayed proudly outside their exhibit.

    Everyone keeps calling the structure at 32:30 an arena. To me, those stone pillars look like someone could've been chained there by the rings, it looks MUCH more like a place for executions instead as it looks way too small to fight in and there's only one central bloodstain. EDIT: Who knows? It could've maybe been used for executing prisoners of war during the Aetherium Wars, if they did that. It could've been possibly used for interrogation as well. This theory seems to be brought out with the War Quarters right next to it, the interrogation site right next to where the soldiers are stationed. It makes sense in my opinion.

At first I was like, "meh, must be rubble from the ceiling" but then, at the occulory in blackreach, where there were piles "rubble" textures right where these tables and chairs were, I had a chilling thought that they're actually the ashes of the dwemer that disappeared.

    There are veins scattered around Black Reach named Geodene veins that are glowing in a smooth blue tone.
    If you do mine them, you‘ll either get soul gems, or you‘ll get corundum ore. There are also a few veins that are black instead of blue which will contain black soul gems. So I think that these blue stones are consisting of this Geodene.

    Hey Camel, I always thought the "arena" was a public execution area and courtroom combo. Chain the accused up in the center of the 4 pillars, have a trial, and then summarily execute them right then and there were they found guilty.
    EDIT: I think I should clarify why I think this. Imagine you're one of the dwarven kings(?) and the Aetherium war is heating up. You wouldn't want any insurrections within your own faction and you'd need a place to kill your prisoners of war. Plus there is blood only in the center, indicating that is where people were getting sliced up.
    Also, for the book, I think an adventurer got a bit too curious for their own good. Setting down their stuff, going to flick a lever, then getting themselves killed. The Falmer came later to drag them away, but left the book because they can't read.

    Camel, I think I have an answer to your lever question in the Dwarven Automaton design: in engineering, redundancy is used to as a fail-safe so that there's a way to something to function, no matter what. I have no doubt that all those automated guards were once activated by a simple portable remote or Dwarven cell phone, but in the end, if all else failed, a simple switch would activated them. The best example is outer space design, where there are multiple ways to open hatches, fix air filters, etc. Love the videos. Cheers!

    Blackreach was one of my most memorable experiences from first full playthrough of this game (which was actually quite recently ~2 years ago, was busy with other games). I was so terrified yet intrigued by its entirety and made a point out of exploring the entire place, but I'm sure I still missed a ton of secrets that are waiting to be discovered. That place felt so unwelcoming, but that was its charm

    I think a very reasonable explanation for the Nordic pillar is that it was carved by resident Atmoran slave miners working in Blackreach under Dwemer taskmasters. It's existence is likely in an area where slaves were kept, and the Nordic workers made it to give themselves a sense of solidarity or a reminder of home.
    Similar instances of slave artistry in ruins can be seen throughout human history, lending credence to this theory.

    Regarding the part about Sindurion (however you spell his name) and why he has dwarves arrows in his back rather than bolts. The ammo type of crossbow bolts was only added to Skyrim when Dawnguard released, and everything in Blackreach is from vanilla Skyrim. I imagine what happened was this: they put dwarven arrows in the back of Alchemy bro here because it was the closest thing at the time to crossbow bolts, but the main idea was to make you assume that the spheres did it. Then when Dawnguard finally came it, whether due to laziness or they just honestly forgot about it, never changed the arrows to bolts.

    Something to remember about Blackreach and half its curiosities is that the Dwemer were strong proponents of slave labor. Frankly, the Dwemer were unlikely to be doing any digging in Blackreach beyond the most important stages, the rest being done by whichever poor soul they managed to fenagle into doing it for them, i.e. the Falmer. The coliseum? I imagine it to be spectacle for the entrapped Falmer at first, and an execution ring later on, a show of force to keep them compliant even as their minds degrade from the poison they were made to ingest. The solitary room with the blade chair? An execution chamber for dissenters, likely earlier than the use of the Arena to execute, before the Falmer would have started uprising in mass. The War Quarter? The only beds in Blackreach, and likely where the last Dwarven guards were garrisoned along with one more important officer, likely heavily guarded to keep the slaves under some semblance of control. Similarly, the manually-activated Centurions being left out in the open, slaves could activate them, if they want to commit suicide, but if a Dwemer guard wants to stamp down an uprising, they'd just need to make their way to a Centurion, which they were probably posted next to regardless. Control counts for a lot, being as Slavery is such an unnatural concept, requiring nearly as much effort to maintain as just doing the dang work yourself, a-holes.

    Camel I think your forgetting how ridiculously huge blackreach would be. A trip from Kvatch to Skingrad would take about a week or more. Now compare that to how long and wife blackreach is. It stretches from one mountain range to another. Now think about Giants. Since Bethesda cant fit something like a giants camp In they just want to put the realization in our head "Wow theres all kinds of creatures down here. There are even giants and trolls! There is an entire ecosystem right under our feet." Just remember how big Blackreach would be if Bethesda was able to make everything accurately sizable.
