The Lodge Card Club is a members-only social club in Round Rock, Texas (just north of Austin). With 24/7 cash games and 2+ tournaments per day, The Lodge is THE place to play poker in central Texas. The Lodge Live is streamed every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday at 3PM CT.
You never know what you might see on The Lodge Live stream. You might see Pocket Aces vs Pocket Kings. You may see the nut straight lose to a full house after the board pairs on the river. There's a good chance you will see loads of straddles (and double straddles, and triple straddles). Players go all-in blind or play poker hands after looking at just one card. That's just what poker is like in Texas!
The stream regularly features Lodge owners Brad Owen, Andrew Neeme, and Doug Polk. Players like Rampage, Mariano, and Igor Kurganov has also graced The Lodge Live felt. And who knows? One day The Lodge may even host players like Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, Phil Ivey, or similarly huge poker names.

Nah that wasnt brutal luck Doug punted calling of like 40k with 2nd pair on the wettest of boards. Flopping the set and then betting after the 1 card straight hits..... its just not good poker. He tilted like a fish.

@@captaincandor2182 imo Doug played reasonable in all spots here. The blockbet with set on the 4straightboard is pretty standard, he can merge sets and straights here and some 2pairs, not sure what to bluff there maybe some 8x he raised on the flop. The TT hand river bet I would argue that it's unnecessary to turn into a bluff since Alex is already pretty polarized and unlikely he will fold a hand like KK and by checking he would give Alex opportunity to bluff with his random 4betbluffs. The last hand TJo is far from standard, but once in the spot it is also a close riverspot, especially vs Alex, who can have QJxs, or As5x, maybe turns a hand like 87s into bluff etc. so far from tilt plays, it's more like his 'randomizer' was a bit off that day.

The last call with a pair of Js only on the river was probably a bad one (and like he said himself he probably shouldn’t even have been in the hand to begin with!) but basically this was just an example of running bad. Poll’s a great player - it’s reassuring to see players of his caliber have runs like this. The lesson to be learned here is when running bad, it’s better to tighten up pre-flop so that you’re left with easier decisions later in the hand. I think Doug would agree.

Obviously you don't know your stuff. Casino style gambling is illegal in Texas, therefore they cannot "rake" pots like other places do. It is a "card club" where you rent a chair by the hour instead of paying a rake. By being an owner though, he may get his seat for free, but he's certainly not profiting off of the pots that he loses. Only the hourly rates that people pay for their seats (which isn't that much in comparison to how much casinos make off of rakes).

It's just plain ol gambling. Polk bluffs like crazy. Didnt work out this time. The more you gamble the more you lose or the more you win. There really is no knowing. I'm talking about cash games. Tournaments are a little different. Polk was in every hand. That's not a good sign. Too much gambling

Nice look how quiet he is when he is losing and how noisy and how he distracts other players when they are on a big pot.

Although this is painful, it is also reality. Even the best can't outplay variance in the short term.
Although my gut still churns when I lose $20. I can't imagine the feeling when it's $20,000 I'm blowing off.

It's just gambling. Especially in cash games. In tournaments, you can say there is some skill, but also just gambling. A degenerate lifestyle.
