I think things are going to change big time. Recent events and announcements by the Government have promised large sums of money. We have finally buried the GAA hatchet which has prevented soccer from progressing. It is not that the government really care but there is so many people supporting the game they have to act, there are votes in it!!!
@@raymonddixon7603 Depends on what success means, soccers average attendance is always going to be low in ireland due to the sheer amount of games being much higher than the othersports, but as regards total attendance soccer is there already more or less with hurling, gaelic and rugby. at a round 1million.
@Joseph13163 I am inclined to disagree. Attendances are continuing to rise year on year. If the grounds could be improved games could attract 5 to 10,000 per game. With a 5 million population that is good enough. It cannot be compared to GAA which is on a county by county basis and attracts a tribal element naturally. Rugby is a different kettle of fish. Club rugby is a joke. The provences are much the same as the county situation.
@@raymonddixon7603 yes maybe 5 to 10 000 ,but thats the height of it and 10 000 only in dublin,no way are you going to get an average of 10 000 at longford town or sligo rovers ,populations are to small and for longford you would need 100% of the population at the match and for sligo you need a third of the population , no matter how into soccer they are thats just not possible even if the GAA didn't exist as people have lives outside sport.
@@Joseph13163 I do not know where you are coming from. I do not disagree with any of your figures, we are a small country and 5,000 at the bottom end is a good figure and compares per rata with any country in the world. Sligo versus Leitrim in a GAA game would not get 5,000 anyway except maybe an All Ireland semi final (unlikely!). But for years domestic soccer has lagged behind the two other main sports. At last it is coming into it's own. I am an old codger and have been attending St. Pats matches since 1963. You cannot get a ticket for a home game, that never, ever happened in my 60 years. The last 3 cup finals got 40,000 people, and that has never happened in my time either. That is where I am coming from.
Great vid Alex from a St. Pat's supporter. I would just like to point out the reason the league is so good is because there is little difference between the top and bottom clubs, as has been proved here and the league generally goes down to the wire to see who wins it. Also in the 10 years from 2013 to 2023, 5 different teams have won a league title in a 10 team league!!!
38 000 was the final attendance which was the biggest attendance for an FAI cup final where no dublin club was playing obviously dublin clubs have much bigger fanbases ,last year was the biggest attendance ever at 43000.
Ref gave a pen and was outside the box which was a mistake, woudnt have made a differnce to the result anyways as derry were soo poor, manager and staff need to go and big changes to the team, 30000 fans travelled to dublin spent there hard earned cash to watch that ridiculous performance, #HIGGINSOUT
Great video btw from a Cov Drogs fan, my Dad's from there and been there loads.
Legend Alex, being serious it's the best vlog I've seen of the atmosphere, nearly had me in tears. What a day. Always welcome back Boyneside 💜💙
Good video mate. Mental how much better the culture is abroad
If this was in England you’d have not even have had the flags. Nevermind the pyros and banners it’s so cool
@@danielcarr6461 come to Sutton then you get flags maybe 1 pyro and a banner depending on the fixture
Alex if you reply you are automatically making my day
And also great vid as always
Amazing commentary, great filming and just great, great Alex
nice one man................ new sub
Great coverage. Our league is so neglected though. There is no investment from anywhere and yet it has such passionate fans and such potential
