It’s only because of Amastu that you get the ride. Once their war ends he sheds off the wirebugs like Apex’s normally do but Amastu keeps attacking him to interrupting that, thereby giving you the ride. It’s so good.
@@HouseHawk62 actually, utsushi specifically readies a special kind of wirebugs called "steel wirebugs" or something like that, i noticed when doing it solo he says as much
That was the best usage of an Apex monster in the entire bloody game. And even as one who didn't like how they were utilized, seeing Apex Zinogre leap forth into a battle of thunder god monsters genuinely made me smile. Capcom didn't have to do that, but I'm happy they did.
Amatsu looks incredible and has become a absolute beast. That moment with Kagero and Yomogi was really sweet. Also, I think the Apex Zinogre is a callback to Portable Third.

Amatsu is so damn good. An upgrade over his old version in pretty much every way possible and easily in the Top 5 Best Fights in Monster Hunter. I love his new Lightning attacks, finally utilizing every part of a Storm. And seeing his "Turf War" with Apex Zinogre is also really damn cool. The one thing I feel like its an downgrade is his water beam. I liked the super thin water laser he previously had more then the fat water beam he has now. And it also makes me kinda sad that we will probably never see this version of Amatsu ever again with how important are the Wirebugs are in this fight.

That Thumbnail is amazing! I loved all of that hunt. The cutscenes, the animations, the music, the old school sound of picking up an item, the cinematic vibe and the attacks of Amatsu... It was fantastic 🌪️
13:30 those screams sent actual chills down my spine. The screams were probably all people could hear above the howling wind, rain, and thunder of Amatsu laying waste to the kingdom Kagero and Yomogi came from
I loved everything about this quest. The MHP3rd horn and quest complete music, using its flagship to wyvernride, the old item pick up sound. I nearly shouted when Zinogre's theme started up. Oh, and, you know, Amatsu was great too. Edit: As an SnS main, I feel Cotton's pain.
Using SnS against Amatsu was beyond painful. The sounds took a while to pick up on due to not playing MHP3 (planning to though) but knew they had importance. Gets all intense once Zinogres theme kicks up! Kind of wish it stuck around till the end with a mix between POAH and Zinogres themes.
The Zinogre is actually shout out to the original intro scene of Portable 3rd. In it your character witnesses a Zinogre roaring in challenge up at a stormy sky with _something_ lurking within the clouds, later this is revealed to have been Amatsu. After all these years Zinogre finally got the fight he wanted.
Amatsu had everything. A Story. Respect for the monster and it's original appearance. Not 1, not 2, but 3 Ultimate moves that could even put Frontier to shame. Wyvern Riding an Apex. and beautiful effect to complement a beautiful battle. 11/10 will hunt again.
If you talk to Rondine after the hunt she tells you she's the one who sent Yomogi after she begged her to help get her there. Also Apex Zino/Valstrax vs Amatsu is peak fiction.
If I remember correctly, in MHP3 Zinogre got aggressive because an Amatsu invaded it’s territory. So I guess they have some kind of rivalry, like Magnamalo and the Serpents.
The fact Zinogre shows up is just the icing on the cake considering the game Zinogre was the flagship of had Amatsu as the final boss. Phenomenal attention to detail. The fact that the old collection tune plays is also great.
This fight from sound design, music and fight choreography is an incredible love letter to anyone who played portable 3rd. Edit: Also can we call Amatsu’s ultimate attack Heaven’s Judgment?
"If Utsushi does anything this fight, I will eat my greatsword" Utsushi be like "Bet" BRINGS AN UNRIDABLE APEX TO BE RIDEN FOR THIS ONE FIGHT Next vid better be Josh eats his greatsword
You could say that Heaven-sent is basically Peak Performance but works in a different way. In PP, as long as you don't get hit, you get attack, and HS, as long as you don't get hit, you increase defense, decrease stamina consuption and sharpness, and using the blue scroll nullifies all status and reloads ammo. Like you said, might be more of a speed runner skill, so it might come somewhat useful for something.
Okay, damn... Amatsu got a major upgrade, and I'm utterly pleased with this. Also, that turf war is f*cking legendary. I am so pleased that Capcom did it to keep with the lore between these two creatures.
PSA, you can layer your weapons during the quest. Go in to the tent, select equipment and press rb or r1 depending on your controller and then you can go from there.
Even as someone who’s top 3 monster list doesn’t have amatsu, I can agree that amatsu’s fight is probably at least a contender for the greatest fight in all of monster hunter. Edit: this was before I played world/iceborne but amatsu’s fight is still iiiiincredible

13:11 Lyrics: (Laughs) Ahhh! Wonderful weather we’re having. It’s so nice to be back. Looking gorgeous, a kingdom in ruin. Hey, how ya doing? Amatsu! Hi you, Lemme tell you what I’ll do. Start with a haiku, Ooh! For my fifth gen reprise, the kingdom dies, look to the skies, no compromise, I surmise. Oh, hey there young Yomogi, do you know me? How’s mom and dad? Oh wait, my bad!
26:15 Now THAT. is a finisher. Knockdown, full followup, final hit of the combo KILLS. That's almost as amazing as my first fatalis kill; WITH THE DRAGONATOR!
18:40 Josh asks what Utsushi can bring to the fight. 23:52 Utsushi brings a ridable Apex Zinogre. Lol. They really made this fight as the definitive ending of Rise's story. From that foreshadowing of Amatsu since the beginning, them really utilizing the game mechanics they introduced in Rise in the fight, then making Utsushi bringing the Apex version of his basically signature monster to the fight and making an Apex ridable for the first time. And as someone mentioned, Amatsu and Zinogre's turf war is probably a reference to their shared lore too. This fight is definitely one of the best fights in MH. It may have been an easier one, but the way they connected everything and how fun it was definitely made it one of the best for me.
As someone who never got to face Amatsu and Valstrax before, I always felt I missed out big. Rise and Sunbreak gave me so much that Is geared I missed out on but then not only did it deliver... Holy crap...That Amatsu upgrade was insane.
holy $#1t... Amatsu got one hell of an overhaul! she finally got the last remaining component: lightning. she's finally a true Storm Dragon (took them long enough to actually put her in the second game in which she fitted most). on an unrelated note, i like Fatalis and Amatsu for a very specific reason: they have the resemblance of the creature they're based on, mixed with the Monster Hunter flair. 15:08-15:11 i can confirm, though i did hit him *most* of the time. i think it's more of learning what you can and can't hit, depending if he's close enough to the ground. you can hit the forelimbs just fine, and the head's rather easy - particularly after doing specific attacks like a water blast... the chest is the most difficult out of the three spots i kept hitting: if Amatsu's close to the ground (or knocked over), easy thing to hit; but it's usually a little further from the ground, so expect you're either hitting or missing. 16:25-16:27 i thought you wouldn't be able to notice. glad you did. i say they're at the length as they should be (the typical Lung and Ryu have long tendrils); we simply couldn't have that in previous games with the limited hardware. 17:14 Amatsu's water blast is different from, say, GU: it's *much* bigger for starters, and does more damage (i LOVE that attack! yes, a basic projectile). 23:07 after the attack he also LANDS ON THE GROUND ON ALL FOUR LIMBS! i had a good look at him when he gets up from getting knocked over; he actually uses his hind limbs as well as his forelimbs! 24:06 YES! 24:09-24:19 YYYEP! Amatsu's got a turf war with Apex Zinogre! hands down, one of the best - if not THE best - turf wars in Monster Hunter. 24:24 *you're right!* it never occured to me! this is the first time we rode an Apex monster! anyone got 2 Heavenly Dragonsphires after slaying their first Amatsu? because i did.
I have always wanted to fight Amatsu, and this hunt was pretty amazing! I love its roar and overall design, so seeing it in action was a masterclass in how to make a creature believable, beautiful, and powerful! (I couldn't think of a synonym that started with b)
I have two head canon reasons as to how Apex Zinogre was the monster to show up: 1)Utshushi knew about the events of Portable 3rd and went specifically looking for it. 2) this is the same Zinogre from Portable 3rd, now older and an apex and sensed his old foe nearby and Utshushi got lucky. And I’m probably wrong on both 😂
I love when you pick up items off the ground and it makes the old school pickup and carve sound! This fight made me feel like a kid in a candy factory! It was so magical and fun!
Amatsu is such a beautyfull fight, I only carted once against him, took me 1 or 2 seconds too long to realise the game was telling me a nuke attack was coming..
i love that you're riding the apex zenoger to fight Amatsu, its like a reference when Zenoger was push out from its territory because of amatsu the first time and now wants a payback. XD
Hey Josh finally got an Amatsu kill in the Pro & Noob series, I'm proud of him. Also I think the devs watch the MH Generations Ultimate video of Amatsu since Dyno did say he wanted the hunters to go up into the air when Amatsu does his wind shenanigans
Now all we need is White Fatalis! After all he’s literally a mix between a western and a Chinese dragon, so it would be convenient to have it in MH Rise!
I have to say thank you to you both facing my absolute favorite monster with the most amazing glow up any monster has gotten in this series so far, so glad you both agree that amatsu is far more powerful tan both Ibushi and Narwa could ever be, additionally…Josh’s genuinely elation and cotton’s constant compliments of the mechanics had me smiling ear to ear just waiting for the thunderous ultimate attack reaction…this fight is WAY better than Fatalis..just my opinion.
This fight definitely feels less bull than Fatalis. It's still HARD in its own right, but it's not punishingly hard to the point of not being fun (imo). Fatalis definitely had the feeling of "holy hell, this is a goddamn brick wall" when I first encountered him, and by the end of Iceborne I was still dreading going up against him with randos. Amatsu doesn't quite evoke that feeling - probably because not every move takes 75% of your hp bar on a fully maxed armourset. And the moves are also generally easier to predict and dodge. Not that that stops me from dodging INTO them, rather than through them.
You can change your layered gear inside the tent, you just have to use the bumpers (on controller) in the equipment select screen. You can do the same with loadouts as well
I love the the zinogre part of the the fight as in the original game when Amatsu was introduced the zinogre only started to be a problem when Amatsu drove them off the mountain they were living on. Very nice detail I think this could be kinda our “Thunderlord” vs Amatsu turf war
I'm surprised that Josh and Cotton haven't realised that the amatsu and apex zinogre turf war makes sense. I also like that the secret to riding Apex Monsters is apparently to just use two Wirebugs and two persons to wrangle them.^^
When utsushi ran off he was gone for several minutes (probably a dmg thing and I was struggling I wont lie) and then he showed up again and I was like "I know DAMN WELL you didnt just pull up with a FUCKING APEX ZINOGRE"
It’s only because of Amastu that you get the ride. Once their war ends he sheds off the wirebugs like Apex’s normally do but Amastu keeps attacking him to interrupting that, thereby giving you the ride. It’s so good.
@@HouseHawk62 actually, utsushi specifically readies a special kind of wirebugs called "steel wirebugs" or something like that, i noticed when doing it solo he says as much
That's really cool that it can also be Valstrax, as im pretty sure Valstrax has something of a connection to Amatsu just like Zinogre does
That was the best usage of an Apex monster in the entire bloody game. And even as one who didn't like how they were utilized, seeing Apex Zinogre leap forth into a battle of thunder god monsters genuinely made me smile. Capcom didn't have to do that, but I'm happy they did.
I still wish they expanded on apexes for base rise endgame
I still wish they expanded on apexes for base rise endgame
I like how Yomogi basically told Kagero that he committed treason when she scolded him after Amatsu was killed.
Amatsu looks incredible and has become a absolute beast. That moment with Kagero and Yomogi was really sweet. Also, I think the Apex Zinogre is a callback to Portable Third.
13:12 Wait a minute, THAT'S FUCKING TERRIFYING! That boulder right there? That's what, 3, 5 tons? and it's FLOATING UP INTO THE SKY?! And this is amatsu just EXISTING. He's literally not even flexing his muscles, just casually hanging out, and that absurdly heavy rock is just FLYING.
No WONDER he's a god damn elder dragon.
Josh: if master Utsushi actually contributes to the fight I will eat my Great sword.
Utsushi: *brings a goddamn Apex Zinogre for a turf war and a unique Apex wyvern ride*
Do you want ketchup with your sword dish?
Edit: As an SnS main, I feel Cotton's pain.
when i learned that the horn and item pick up sounds were just gimmicks, i was disappointed.
hopefully MH6.
(hello, SnS brother :) )
@@jacktheomnithere2127 they should have had an option to chose those sound effects just for that extra fan service in the game options.
Meanwhile I used IG and I was having a dogfight with it the whole time AND IT WAS EPIC
This was an 11/10 fight. And has my all time fav cutscene in MH. So much backstory, so much presence, so awesome.
23:11 Josh’s reaction perfectly matches how I first reacted to that super.
IT’S. SO. GOOD!
I waited for this. Just Josh loosing his s**t and Cotton being stunned as always. It's by far my favorite fight in 5th gen monster hunter.
This fight from sound design, music and fight choreography is an incredible love letter to anyone who played portable 3rd.
Edit: Also can we call Amatsu’s ultimate attack Heaven’s Judgment?
"If Utsushi does anything this fight, I will eat my greatsword"
Utsushi be like "Bet"
BRINGS AN UNRIDABLE APEX TO BE RIDEN FOR THIS ONE FIGHT
Next vid better be Josh eats his greatsword
24:00 yeah, waiting for Josh to eat his greatsword now
Old amatsu: If you strike me down i'll come back more powerful that you could ever imagine.
Amatsu now: more powerful
23:09 The NOISES you make are HILARIOUS.
This elder dragon just gave me a 1 hour instant classic marathon....... And I was shook the moment Apex Zinogre came in.
Okay, damn... Amatsu got a major upgrade, and I'm utterly pleased with this. Also, that turf war is f*cking legendary. I am so pleased that Capcom did it to keep with the lore between these two creatures.
Zinogre finally got his revenge on Amatsu after 13 years, that's such a clever callback.
Did you guys notice that any harvesting done in the quest sounds like the MHP3 sound effect? The nostalgia!
PSA, you can layer your weapons during the quest. Go in to the tent, select equipment and press rb or r1 depending on your controller and then you can go from there.
Game: "You're good friends with Utsushi, right?"
Josh: refuses to even pronounce Utsushis name correctly
I love that the quest uses a lot of the old sound when picking up items and cooking stake etc.
Bro this Amatsu feels like it came straight out of frontier with those absolutely insane attacks
Even as someone who’s top 3 monster list doesn’t have amatsu, I can agree that amatsu’s fight is probably at least a contender for the greatest fight in all of monster hunter.
Edit: this was before I played world/iceborne but amatsu’s fight is still iiiiincredible
You probably didn’t notice this but for this hunt, and this hunt alone they brought back the old item obtained sound, made me so damn nostalgic
New amatsu is an absolutely incredible monster . I had a blast taking him down this morning, me and my buddy were screaming when apex zinogre showed up. 😊
"Hey I don't remember this move-
*OW"*
Sums up my experience.
Really cool as difficult as it was (haven't played in a while, soloing it wasn't very smart)
The old sound effects, Amatsu being so damn pretty, Zinogre showing up, what an awesome quest
So when are we seeing Josh eat his greatsword? I'd say bringing an Apex Zinogre to beat up Amatsu is a pretty meaningful contribution, lol
7:41 WHAT (also waiting on that greatsword eating vlog; you can't deny Utsushi did something useful in this hunt by luring over Apex Zinogre)
Well Josh, by your word, you have a greatsword to eat
When Kogero was unmasked, i honestly thought it looked like the other item shop guy. But apparently theyre still 2 different people
13:11 Lyrics:
(Laughs) Ahhh!
I just beat the Amatsu as pressed and frustrated as I was fighting it. You two bring a smile to me.
I was hoping Josh would freak out over the old pickup sound replacing the usual sound from Rise
I was screaming through the whole video, I'm so fucking happy about how Amatsu turned out to be remade, they really did him justice.
The peak thing fir me was the Zinogre. The related lore behind that is stunning, so to have Thunderlord Zinogre show up here is awesome
26:15 Now THAT. is a finisher. Knockdown, full followup, final hit of the combo KILLS.
That's almost as amazing as my first fatalis kill; WITH THE DRAGONATOR!
You *KNEW* where your Dragonator was.
Am I the only one waiting for Josh to eat his greatsword?
Josh also has to eat a greatsword now
With the context of the raging Brachy video that came out a few day before this its as if Capcom just went and said ,,Hold my beer.''
As someone who never got to face Amatsu and Valstrax before, I always felt I missed out big.
Rise and Sunbreak gave me so much that Is geared I missed out on but then not only did it deliver... Holy crap...That Amatsu upgrade was insane.
Amatsu puts the phrase "But Wait THERE"S MORE" into full effect holy hell fighting it was both spectacular and FOOKIN painfull
Josh taking a picture of Cotton and his dog=top 5 moment in Pro and Noob history
holy $#1t...
Jokes on the people who shit on Rise/Sunbreak. They dont get to experience this spectacle. What a wild ride this fight is.
They don’t deserve to experience it
Casually watching Josh craptalk Utsushi before he knows what's going to happen XD
"SuNbReAk NeEdS a BlAcKdRaGoN!"
Amatsu: Hold my Frills time to prove them wrong.
Am I the only one who was shocked by how Drop Dead Gorgeous Kagero is?
You can tell Cotton wants its children when he goes INCOHERENT with awe!
Ok I just love how you gave Amatsu the same villain themed rap as Fatalis, its very fitting for this fight.
I have always wanted to fight Amatsu, and this hunt was pretty amazing! I love its roar and overall design, so seeing it in action was a masterclass in how to make a creature believable, beautiful, and powerful! (I couldn't think of a synonym that started with b)
Just give it the seereax treatment and call it “bowerful” x3
Oh I can haaaaardly wait to fight this beautiful masterpiece!
Sorry Kagero, you stood no chance against Amatsu but I applaud you for your courage.
XD
I'm glad you guys finally got your Walmart bag trapped in the wind.
I'm hoping for more new monsters in the next game but you never know.
18:55
23:55
Well Josh, ball is in your court.
Since utsushi brought in the apex zinogre, Josh must now eat his great sword.
18:55 well looks like you got to eat you great sword
Hey Josh finally got an Amatsu kill in the Pro & Noob series, I'm proud of him. Also I think the devs watch the MH Generations Ultimate video of Amatsu since Dyno did say he wanted the hunters to go up into the air when Amatsu does his wind shenanigans
Also even though it is a small detail, the fact that they used the old world Gen 3 sound effects and music cues for the fight was such a good touch.
You can actually see the StinkMink effect on Utsushi when he brings in the Zinogre, THAT'S SO COOL
11:30 Excitable A-lister/Aiden with Fatalis: “Am I a joke to you?”
18:35 now that is perfect foreshadowing set up, completely unintentional to God. I cannot wait until the Apex shows up.
Edit: worth it
You can change your layered gear inside the tent, you just have to use the bumpers (on controller) in the equipment select screen. You can do the same with loadouts as well
18:41 "What is Utsushi gonna bring to this fight?"
Oh I don't know, how about an APEX ZINOGRE???
Just wait until Utsushi brings in Scorned Magnamalo. That's a matchup I'm eager to see. Oh, with the Rampage theme overtaking Amatsu's theme.
Sorry, I did the quest, and only Apex Zinogre and Crimson Glow Valstrax can appear during Amatsu's fight.
I love the the zinogre part of the the fight as in the original game when Amatsu was introduced the zinogre only started to be a problem when Amatsu drove them off the mountain they were living on. Very nice detail I think this could be kinda our “Thunderlord” vs Amatsu turf war
I will be expecting a video of you eating your greatsword. Utsushi brang in the apex zinogre
Oh hell yes Iv been hoping this monster would come back
Also Cotten doing the rap is fantastic
This may be one of the only videos where a Zinogre shows up and there is no Zinogre slander from Josh.
...I approve.
Running it the second time around and a Valstrax just comes in doing Valstrax things is what I needed
"We went so high together" he says on 4/20
