Satie's "Gymnopédie No.1" Reimagined with Eurorack, DXG, Sealegs, Mutable Beads: A Dreamy Soundscape

  • Satie's music is an invitation to contemplation... much like the moments I experience with my Eurorack or when I encounter "happy accidents" within it. Merging these two elements is a way to reinterpret and, above all, blur the original idea in a manner akin to impressionism. In the end, I found myself feeling a bridge between the real and the dream world... a blurred canvas of electronic sounds.
Satie's notes faded and reappeared, playing with modulation on the Make Noise DXG, reverb from Sealegs, and the granularity of Mutable Beads... like fragmented memories in the mind of a dreamer. The familiar arpeggio disintegrated into a sea of oscillations and filters, over which a glitchy rhythm emerged, finding stability in the kick drum that helped it find itself.
The clarity of "Gymnopédie No. 1" transformed into a mist of frequencies, creating what ultimately feels like an abstract soundscape emerging from the place where reality and dreams converge.

Dreamy - that's it in a word................love this......the most original version of this piece of music I've heard.......love the little clicks that suggest historic vinyl.............the throbbing kick drum was unexpected, but cool.................love the graphic overlays, and the chair..............pure sonic opium................

@@willswitchcraft You don't know how much I appreciate your words Will. It's been a while since I've been going back to old scores and now that I was regaining the time to make more music I wanted to see how far the eurorack would take me with the idea. I really appreciate as always your feedback and appreciations of the little details that appear during the song. 🙏

Thank you very much Travis! Satie and Chopin were two of my favorite composers when I was studying classical piano at the conservatory and I always discovered a lot of intensity and expression in their nuances. I have tried to bring out the essence of that melody that seems to be taken from a fantasy inside a dream but using eurorack equipment fundamentally.

Magnificent interpretation here mate ❤ so modern sounding, but with an obvious reverence for the work of time gone by ❤

thank you so much for your nice comments! DEX is so versatile... but in this case DistingEX is as a sampler.. I'm playing piano sample at -12 pitch..

      Thank you so much!!
I play the song on my piano to fit the limitations of eurorack. Then I load those midi files into my iPad … and it plays it directly to CME WIDI and es9 to be received by DistingEX and Monome ansible
