Spinning Away - Brian Eno & John Cale (1990) HD FLAC

- "Spinning Away" was released on the Brian Eno & John Cale collaboration album, Wrong Way Up, in the fall of 1990. I think this album is masterpiece, it's a shame that it's relatively overlooked and wasn't more popular when it was released. The album is filled with other great tracks, and you owe it to yourself to seek it out if you haven't heard it before. This is an especially gorgeous and special song...the lyrics, arrangement, and vocals combine to create an absolutely haunting and hypnotic tune! One of those songs (Eno has several) that I wouldn't mind being the last notes I ever heard as I exited from this place to the next.
As a huge fan of Brian Eno, this was the record I'd been waiting to hear from Eno since his string of masterpieces in the mid-late 70's ending with Before And After Science in 1977.
I've mentioned that the very first video I worked on when I stared making videos was for Eno's "St. Elmos Fire" (still unfinished!, though I did grab Fripp's blistering solo for my first channel trailer...I really got to finish that vid one day! LOL!). I'd also started working on vids for a few other of my favorite Eno songs and I'm thrilled that I finally got something finished for this song, which is my favorite from the album and one of my all-time Eno tracks of all. The lyrics, arrangement, and vocals combine to create an absolutely haunting and hypnotic tune! One of those songs (Eno has several) that I wouldn't mind being the last notes I ever heard as I exited from this place to the next.
The album sits between the electronic and prog-rock/art rock genres and features some of both Eno's and Cale's most mainstream work. The single "Been There, Done That" remains the only Eno single to ever reach an American chart. The cover picture is by Eno.
HUGE THANKS to everyone who's art made this new art possible.....THANK YOU!!!!!!!
[Lyrics]
Up On a Hill, As the Day Dissolves
With My Pencil Turning Moments Into Line
High Above in the Violet Sky
A Silent Silver Plane - It Draws a Golden Chain
One By One, All the Stars Appear
As the Great Winds of the Planet Spiral In
Spinning Away, Like the Night Sky At Arles
In the Million Insect Storm, the Constellations Form
On a Hill, Under a Raven Sky
I Have no Idea Exactly What I've Drawn
Some Kind of Change, Some Kind of Spinning Away
With Every Single Line Moving Further Out in Time
And Now As the Pale Moon Rides (In the Stars)
Her Form in My Pale Blue Lines (In the Stars)
And There, As the World Rolls Round (In the Stars)
I Draw, But the Lines Move Round (In the Stars)
There, As the Great Wheels Blaze (In the Stars)
I Draw, But My Drawing Fades (In the Stars)
And Now, As the Old Sun Dies (In the Stars)
I Draw, and the Four Winds Sigh (In the Stars) uk
I wish I could give this masterpiece more than a single thumbs up.
Thanks for checking it! I'm seeing these comments and remembering that this vid needs an update!
SO UPLIFTING....SO UPLIFTING....
SO UPLIFTING.... For a brief moment it lifts me so high that I spin away and forget the pain of my Beautiful Precious Boys passing into the non-physical 18 months ago. In that moment of release and joy they appeared next to me, dancing with my joy in perfect harmony and syncronicity and in that moment of pure love for the Beautiful Souls that they are, If I could have held them in an embrace and we would spin away together into Infinity.
FOR MY BEAUTIFUL BOYS.
♥️
🙏🏽💜🙏🏽
absolute masterpiece. Think I have listened to it +1000 times!
It is ageless. Thanks for reminding me that this is a video that I very much need to upgrade....this song deserves something better from me (since I've already committed to a vid!) Be safe!
This is a masterpiece. One of the few pieces of 'popular music' that makes my hair stand up.
wow you're clearly so much smarter than everyone else with your superior taste in music
Mine too)
Came back from 2035......and still being a great great song. Anyone else enjoying in 2019???
Heartbreakingly sublime.
Breathtakingly beautiful.
Stunningly close to the heart.
Up on a hill, as the day dissolves
With my pencil turning moments into line ..You guys make life so beautiful and elegant
Absolutely bloody superb, thanks a million. Love Eno and Cale.
This is one of my favorite songs. Happy to hear from you again!
i HAVE ALMOST ALL OF ENO'S MUSIC, BUT THIS SPINNING AWAY IS A BLISTERINGLY FERVENT DRUMMING BEATING TRACK....FULL OF JOY AND DARING. OPENING OUTWARD...DILATION... THAT IS WHAT WE ARE ALL ABOUT!!!!!
I had forgotten just how wonderful this song is; the lyrics form vibrant inages and the music reinforces them. Truly cosmic.
This song makes me cry.
It absolutely has that ability for those who are sensitive to its message.
There's only one word to describe this song,Sublime
Fantastic piece...sublime...genius Eno!!
One of the most beautiful songs ever written, it takes me far away and yet within as well. Thanks for the fantastic video, it really complements the music in an artistic, mystical way.
I'm balling my eyes out right now.
@@michaelmiehl3334 This song taps into some deep emotions, same happens to me whenever I hear it. Vast and haunting, yet extremely personal and intimate.
great comment. It is just so beautiful, far and within... Mostly I'd love to be riding in our friend's bus, listening to this on a gorgeous summer afternoon like we did.
Beautiful.
Absolutely stunningly beautiful
this song is one of my all time favorites. so light and tight and uplifting! Great composition.
No I don't know Linton Kwesi Johnson
"Bass Culture - Cover"
But I don't mind trying to listen to :)
The vocal melodies from 3:12 onwards are gut-wrenchingly beautiful.
Agreed.....thanks for watching and commenting!
It's that suspended 4th. It'll get you every time.
Beautiful video for a perfect song.
Incredible video. Brian Eno and John Cale should send you a check.
When this album first came out I would play it two or three times a day for the first month , once a day in the second month . By month six I had it down to once a week on my Sunday music play list. The first two Roxy albums are incredible, the third had something missing,Eno. I found Taking Tiger mountain in a used bin in 77 , I went through three copies on vinyl till I converted my collection to CD. When I first got No pussyfooting I was amazed ,again when I heard My life In The bush of Ghosts . Eno was changing the way that music evolved through the Eighties and Nineties in popular music as well as inventing forms in electronic music .
He has a genius in music and now visual art but he always presents himself in a modest and unassuming way .He certainly expanded my conciousness and given the chance I'll die like a baby on some far away beach or I'll turn into a cloud and I'll drift back home if the wind will blow me there.
I hope Brain gets to stay with us a little longer than, than those who hadn't the chance too. Thank you Jon.
До слёз красиво..

ENO THEE EXCELLENT
The best accompanying video to this brilliant song. The radio telescope dishes seem alive.
Appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment, Owen Ransen. Thanks for helping out with thumbs and comments! Peace to ya! :-)
Best ov them all
Sublime.
This will be followed by Some Words, so obsessed with Eno these days, again.
Love this song, love Eno music... your video is beautiful!! 💖⚘
after watching this I have decided to give up drugs and alcohol
Somehow, me too.
every summer since 1990 !!!
This is absolutely amazing. I am 43, and have listened to this album, and song, since the album was first put out. I loved it then, and I still love it now. Your work fits perfectly with this song. :) Thank you for sharing your art with the rest of us.
This album is so GREAT . Just LOVE It Forever !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ditto!
I am 62 and will be listening to Eno and Cale for a long to come. After Bebussy comes Eno in the tradition of classic composers for their times
I'm a man of many colours, only yesterday i was blue
❤❤❤❤❤
I agree - there are few that have endured like this - what a great collaboration- a masterpiece. thx for the post
Thanks so much for commenting on the video for this brilliant track!
Being a list guy, my best friend and i will often make one like the 100 songs you can listen to for the rest of your life. (We have too much free time) The point though Jon, is you have actually introduced me to a bunch of tunes that make my cut, including this masterpiece. (As is your video, which i watch often) Thank you sir for widening my musical horizons! Can't even explain how much i love this song! 💕
Don't even try to pretend you're playing the baseline in your back garden looking up at the sky to the milky way. Baam!
LOVE this video and this song.... Eno fan since 1975.

I bought this album when it came out because of this song. It was years later that I realized what Eno was singing about, I like to think Vincent would be pleased how his painting would inspire such a beautiful song.
I never heard this song before, nor have I heard of Brian Eno :(... I have listened to this MAGIC almost non-stop for the past 16 hours. Thank you so much!!! It's on my "Happy Bliss" playlist, but the more I listen to it, I get teary eyed... Anyway, THANK YOU!!!
Cool video. Been listening to Eno since Roxy Music. This is one of those pieces that resonates so wonderfully with me. I imagery is so beautiful. I can place myself there. I've seen sunsets before with the "silent silver plane, It draws a golden chain" before. Just a very cool song. Thanks.
Great video for this song. Thanks.
For those who have ever experienced the incredible joy of making something just for the sake of it, so it turns out the best it can, and not as means to achieve anything else... Scipio's Dream!!!!!
I posted this song on Facebook fairly recently because I had just discovered it, but the context of the post I made tonight is vastly different.
If you're going through a tough time, regardless of how miniscule it is in the eyes of others, know that if you place importance on your situation, it's probably for a reason.
This song is what I've been revisiting when things weigh heavy on my mind, so I encourage those who are dealing with anything they legitimately acknowledge as detrimental to themselves to listen to this. When words from those close to you don't do the job, music can fill in the blanks.
Great comment, Maurice! I'd agree with you completely. I've been obsessed with it since the first time I heard it many years ago.
Again...I listen. One by one all the stars appear.
Cool video! Good song too. I like Eno and John Cale
Just love this one.
+MetalGuruMessiah Long been a favorite song, since I purchased the disk many years ago. Great choice of images, well-placed and right in line with Eno's theory that if you watch/listen to something enough times, everything eventually seems deliberate and perfectly in place. Nice job...
Oh man, this is the feeling on which i want to serf.........It's a wave ....a breathtaking serfing on an incredible feeling....
Thanks for checking the video out!
perfect! i didn't know that song is too old
This is my holiday song
Thanks for making and uploading the unique and very captivating video. Just as with you, this is one of my favorite Eno albums, as well as one of my fave Cale albums. Much of their respective other works are way up on my lists of great albums, but this one takes the creative genius of both these artists and melds them together to create a superb collection that is far greater than the sum of its parts.
This song, along with "Empty Frame" and "The River," are the finest on the album.
As you state, it's a shame that this album was so underplayed and underappreciated. But I've learned not to care too much about what is and is popular or not.
Beautiful
It's so good and uplifting them sad ones try to distort it at the end
An excellent, beautiful piece of work, paying respect and tribute to a great piece of music. Outstanding job! Thanks for putting this together.
Thanks for the kind words of support!
Michaela - Ive listened to Eno daily since '71 , "Happy Bliss" is a purr-fect description
I will look for new discoveries via your "channel"........always seeking teary eyes
great collaboration/great video
Wow! Just brilliant! Thank you for yet again another spectacular introduction Jon! Didn't know what i was missing! Loved it!! 💕
P.S. I shared this with a bunch of people! My daughter Nicole gave it 10/10, and said it was addictive, yet peaceful! Thank you brother!
Snapped this album up as soon as it appeared on vinyl, wonderful. When something so satisfying had been put down on tape, I wonder why they haven't followed up. It was a classic pairing and an artistic success. btw, is this really a hi res up load? Didn't know there were any on YT. Thanks MetalGuruMessiah.
un tema demasiado hermoso para ser real
Loving it, great job!
Thanks so much!
Excellent, Jon. I say that as a non-Eno fan. It's a beautiful song.
On the strength of this video I am subscribing to your channel MetalGuruMessiah. I love everything Eno
I think your work on this video is just amazing and its works so well with the song . To be able to add a video to a Brian Eno & John Cale song and make it better is work of a true artist I think. The updated pictures of them is a very cool to see and the video in HD very nice. It brings the video into the present, now that's talent if you ask me.
David Gant very nice comment indeed! Somehow I missed it.....sorry for not responding earlier, David!
I get anxious when I think about the artists (especially Eno...yikes!?! LOL!) happening to come across a video I've worked up and when I think about them coming across a video it makes me want to pull it down for a do-over immediately! They all contain some things that looking back I know exactly the changes I'd like to do to make them better. It's been a strange and new experience for me to realize that I cannot enjoy most of the videos I've done because all I see is the things I want to correct!
In this particular case, it's especially the album cover spiral effects that bother me most (1. I realize that most people, unless they are intimately familiar with the album cover will not recognize the art and 2.) the effect is mangled and ugly....I can do it proper now! LOL!
Soon I'll begin my planned second channel where I can begin uploading updated versions of the videos.....hope to see ya there then! Thanks again!!!!
MetalGuruMessiah It is all good my Brother from another Mother. This video is the first one I saw on UA-cam and I thought it was done Brian Eno himself. Then I realized it was make by you (MetalGuruMessiah) and that made it So Much Cooler you are a True Artist because your are always trying to improve your work. Now about the record cover at 4:22 I always thought you only did the knifes in the spiral LOL
Great use of time lapse videos.
super
.. but there is the sun... the sun... stay around..
John, you warned us all that your eye candy would put us into a diabetic coma! Well, this one certainly did. This is my favorite creation by you to date. You must have read about my "Best of the Best Favorites" playlist and wanted to earn a spot on that coveted list, LOL!!! Well, you have. When a video is so captivating I forget to take a breath and sit with my jaw dropped open afterward, I know I've watched something incredible. :-) Sandy
And now as the pale moon rides in the stars
In the stars

In the stars
And there as the world rolls round in the stars
In the stars
I draw, but the lines move 'round in the stars
In the stars
And there as the great wheels blaze in the stars
In the stars

In the stars
And now as the old sun dies in the stars

I just find this one...i knew the version sang by Sugar Ray for The Beach's soundtrack...which one is original version?
MUITO BOMMMMMMMMMMM
MetalGuruMessiah,If I could ask, where does the image of the southwest looking arch come from?
Hard to fathom it's been over 20 years since I sat on the roof of this small cafe and blared this album from the window of my future wife's apartment. Such fond memory.
Fantastic! Very professional video. Do you make videos for the TV or MTV..? You should.. ;)
This will always remind me of my wife...it's like a brain tattoo
Even if I don't recognize the title or the music, your work and choices capitivate my mind for the length of the tune. You've 195 uploads, and I'd love to do a road trip to my city of surrealism with nothing but your selections. Yes. I find you THAT talented. I look forward to my YT visits to see the experiment you've perfected this time. I have a few requests which are older instrumentals. You'd honour them. Classical Gas-Mason Williams, Love Is Blue-Paul Mauriat, Gassenhauer-Carl Orff. Please?
Great requests! :)
Sorry for my nasty comment great tune
All really great music gets over looked because the big record company's do not let artist be artist . Listen whats being played right now out there Fluff with no meaning they do not want the people to start using are brain's .
Nice video for an awesome song.
#ExterminateISIS
makes me misty-
It has that effect on me every single time I hear it. Thanks for watching!
Sweet music! I know who Brian Eno is, but I've never heard of John Cale.
Your comment was posted 9 years ago, don't know if you've caught up on John Cale. If not so, here's a short description of John Cale: started playing piano aged six, joined the Welsh Youth Orchestra aged fourteen, becoming a multi-instrumentalist (viola, bass, guitar, harmonium, marimba, harpsichord and various other instruments). After studying musicology in London in the early 60's he was awarded a Leonard Bernstein scholarship, to emigrate to the US, where he worked with avantgarde luminaries Yannis Xenakis, John Cage and La Monte Young. In early 1965 he founded The Velvet Underground with Lou Reed, and was the main force behind their then groundbreaking sound on their first two albums. After his exit he produced and arranged Nico's albums The Marble Index, Desertshore and The End, creating the first 'Goth albums'. Furthermore he went on to produce the debuts by The Stooges, Patti Smith and The Modern Lovers. His solo career is characterized by his almost unrivaled versatility, exploring various genres, such as pop, rock, classical, avantgarde, jazz, punk, electronica etc. Surely you've heard the song Hallelujah, originally written by Leonard Cohen. It was Cale's rearrangement that transformed the somewhat wooden sounding original to one of the most covered pop songs (i.e. Jeff Buckley). Cale's live performances have been either with a band, solo or with orchestra, and his reluctance to play the same arrangements, when on tour, makes him something special. There are very few musicians that have been so influential and creative as John Cale, he simply is pure genius, and yet still so overlooked und underrated.
I've heard of Brian Eno, but I've never heard of John Cale.
I can't put url's on pages, so if you are interested in some things Brian Eno, the musical genius , had to say about Open Source, among other things, before they were, take a look at his interview "Brian Eno Profile and interview- Oct 2011.There are and will be some other interviews of Brian at the top of my likes Jon. Hopefully you get a chance to view them I also am a HUGE fan of all of his work.To create and then inspire is a rare gift that many do not encompass. Brian is one that does. A+!0
Start that out around 5.20. Brian was ahead with Roxy. The same goes with The Talking Heads. Listen what he has to say about OPEN SOURCE. The farming communities. In another interview I have Brian talks about walking at night and how he looked in a big bay window and saw this huge screen T.V. He had a thought of that being the new art canvas. Just before his walk he was worried about how art was so expensive and how that limits peoples creativity F.Y.I Digital Art.I will inbox the url

Bass is what makes a big part of this song yet i can barely hear it.
I was told it is genius. For me, its the stars, its the stars . . its an annoying ear-worm.
HD FLAC bahaha this is rubbish quality even on cheap headphones 😂😂
Most people seem not to know that this song is about Vincent van Gogh's painting. Similar to Don McLean's song "Starry Starry Night", but Eno's version hits me harder.
