Both games are cool, but they also differ in mechanics and principles and are good in their own way. Stalker 2, which is reasonable for 24 years old, looks better graphically, but Metro can also be admired
I remember metro coming out and was blown away! Still holds up well but stalker 2 is king! Can you imagine what they would need to do to make it next gen for the next gen consoles? Will be interesting to see but maybe they go even more physics?
@@MaksymNazarets idk, the atmosphere in the orginal stalker and metro games seem more immersive and desolate to me. The new game also has that in some areas, but other areas look very generic. Doesn't look as post-apocalyptic. Still a decent game though. Considering these games are all about immersion, I would have preferred if the devs sacrificed quantity for quality.
Metro is better because it's not just a game, it's based on a bestelling series of books, stalker is not, no matter who the developer is, Metro its better by default and this stalker 2 looks like a copypaste of Exodus in visual terms, which is hilarious since 5 years have passed since then.
if a 2019 game is still compared with a 2024 game, then it really shows how passionate the developers were into making those previous games. Metro still stands out as one of the best fps survivor games till this day

I'm doing the same. I knew under the condition they had develope the game in, it can't be a near finished product. Nonetheless they need to get some money in to keep the company alive. So I'm sure they'll do just like CD Project with Cyberpunk and Patch it for years to come. Also with the the help of the community this is going to be next game witch can be replayed for decades
Exodus is an absolute masterpiece of art. Also, I'm pretty positive this video didn't feature Enhanced Edition of Metro Exodus which by the way is still the only game ever made with infinite bounce ray traced global illumination lighting which looks absolutely ridiculously good. Color pallet and art direction wise, Exodus is undoubtedly more polished. It really looks like a game made by someone who really knows how to make good looking visuals.
Biggest difference is that Metro is a semi-open-world linear FPS with survival elements, where Stalker is true open world - neither is bad, Metro's design allows for tightly designed setpieces and allows designers to script everything in a way that player will get most cinematic experience, while Stalker allows way more emergent gameplay. Each game has its pros and cons and both have different aestetics. Metro is a true post-apocalypse with elements from other franchises like Mad Max clearly visible in them, while Stalker is a sci-fi game that happens in semi-real-life post-apocalyptic zone (SIRCAA is clear example of place where modern technology and modern world clearly clashes with abandonment and wild nature of the Zone - real piece of outer world in it - place where everything is new and shiny). Both have same ideas, but both have very different vibes to them.
From a technical standpoint Metro is open world just as much as Stalker in the sense that games aren't rendering the full map at all times, but at any given moment Metro is rendering just as much distance/detail as stalker 2, but yes stalker 2 has a much larger open world map. I think the locations/world in metro are more believable though since enemies don't randomly spawn around you every 30 feet like stalker. Each point of interest is hand crafted. In stalker you can clear a place of interest, walk away and then 5 mins later new random enemies will be in the same spot. It's kinda goofy.
@@V-XENO already played it and its always on top of my fav game but I found *ME* to be more immersive in terms of gameplay there's almost not Hud and there's no minimap and you have to check the radiation and all from the watch but the world of rdr2 is just built different
I like both games, as a whole Metro is prettier and better optimized, but it's not a very large open map with a lot of interaction with NPCs, Stalker is a bigger game, more complex, more replayable .
@@Sout96_ A 64km map for Stalker 2, let's be clear, I love metro, they have always had pioneering graphics, in fact I am getting the first ones remastered and they have nothing to envy of current games. But Stalker doesn't play on the graphics, it's the realism and the interest of the game that take precedence. Looting a weapon in Metro ok, looting a new weapon in Stalker is still way above.
The crazy part is that Metro Exodus developers is people who worked on original Stalker game back in 2007 and left the company to create their own games.
I remember getting a 4k monitor and the first game I wanted to try was Metro Exodus after the next gen upgrade patch on series x. Was not disappointed. Very few games can run 4k with path tracing on console at 60fps. Idk how they did it but that is still one of the prettiest games I’ve ever played. I remember walking into a room and just noticing all the little detail, shadows, and reflection on every little item on a shelf. I’m telling you if you guys have a mid-high end pc or a next gen console play Metro with path tracing absolutely mindblown even today.
It was essentially the first game to fully apply RT to production lighting. They recorded the entire game lighting with infinite rays, basically a method like editing with VFX doing RT, path tracing is also limited to only 2 rays. Once they are done recording that light they will fine tune it so the game reproduces that light even without RT enabled, and if you enable RT 1 70% of the light record will be added and the rest is the RT process from the GPU. That process makes the RT lighting in the game very beautiful, but the performance doesn't require as much as path tracing
@@taylorhickman84 Metro is pretty close I believe. Like locked 1800p with path tracing. I’m not kidding. Play it on series x or ps5 it’s clearer then a lot of games on even my pc.
Metro is incredible but the caveat here is Exodus is semi open but mostly linear whereas Stalker 2 is fully open world. It's not perfect but the amount of detail in Stalker 2 for being such a massive world is insane.
Metro can run at 60fps 1080p max settings on a 1660s, Stalker2 you need at least 4070 to play at 60fps native, I feel like these days you pay for hardware upgrades only to get more shimmering and artifacts from upscaling and FG.
Idk what problem with fps u have but i have RTX 4060 mobile(in laptop) and intel core i-5 12000, play on high settings with 70-80 fps. Maybe u need update drivers?

To be fair, both universes were heavily inspired by the novel roadside picnic. Its where they both got the term stalker. Interesting book, I would definitely recommend.

Maybe Metro has good graphics for that year, I should also mention that Stalker 2 graphics are better than Metro. You will definitely notice it when you play it mate!
forgot how much i loved metro, what a stunningly beautiful and absolutely detail packed game. it was a little easier and in that way more enjoyable, but i do appreciate the grind of stalker 2, it hooks me all the more and is still fantastically detailed and beautiful for its massive scale.
The gas mask UI in Metro has never been beat. All the water, dirt, grime, and cracks that form on it over time, and how you can manually wipe it clean... such a cool immersive feature that no other game I've ever played has. Not to mention how it changes your view, and your character's breathing noise.
Yeah I just wish the "wiping the gas mask" was able to be used more. The majority of the time the grime on your screen goes away faster than you can clean it.

Realistic and Stalker cannot be in the same sentence. Maybe look at Escape from Tarkov for more faithful weapon modelizations and sounds. If you really want to stay in the Stalker world, weapons mods for Anomaly have more accurate sounds IMO.

When you play a METRO EXODUS, it's like watching a cool movie, but not only watching, but also participating in it. Thoughtful scenario, atmosphere and emotions!
One thing that people dont talk about is how accurately presented the revolver is in metro exodus. Its the only game afaik that actually has the hammer cock back and strike the primer before the gun actually firing. In game this meant that although you can fire more rapidly the delay meant marksman shooting was more difficult.
I had no idea how annoying and ignorant Stalker fan-base is. If any other game would be released in this condition they would riot. The hive mind mentality is strong with this one

I am noticing that before they made games with not a lot of assets but they had tons of detail and fidelity, now we have less fidelity but abundance is too the maximum.
I don't think the stalker looks realistic, NPC's looks like 2014 and there's no life in them, on the other hand the AI is also sucking dick at the moment 😂

uhhh no, actually when stalker shadow of chernobyl was in development some devs left the studio because development cycle was insane, they formed A4 studio to create metro, old metro and stalker games even have similar sound effects, but by the time stalker 2 was in development (after cancelling it for first time and reviving it again) GSC team had completely different people working in there
Let's not be a fanatic of either game. Metro Exodus is great, and Stalker 2 will be too, once it's optimised. To people saying Exodus is worse, it's a 5 year old game. To people saying stalker 2 is worse, it's only released. Let's keep those in mind.
Judging by the comments, people don’t seem to care about realism at all when it comes to graphics, style, or world-building. They think Metro looks better. For me, when directly comparing the visuals, Metro feels plastic. This is due to the lighting technologies, how light interacts with materials, the color palettes used, and the artistic approach to filling interiors. Most abandoned buildings look exactly like they do in STALKER-everything is looted in those houses.
people care more about performance, metro looks that good running on older hardware when compared to stalker 2 on the same hardware runs like a turtle.
Lighting seems to be pretty weak in Stalker 2, like when you enter a building during the day and lack of casting light from fires at 8:04. Supposedly the super dark buildings is a bug and I hope the fire shadows are too.
It's sad how little has changed, but the graphics requirements are higher, sometimes I feel that they do it on purpose so that people buy new GPUs and the games are still the same and there is only a small difference

the corridor does not mean badly, stalker 2, although it has an open world, the world structure is essentially the same as in the old parts, separate locations, only before they were separated by bubble screens, and now empty fields with random generation of enemies.

I feel like comparing these parts of the games is useless as Metro and Stalker are two very different games for very different experiences. Metro is linear and focuses on telling it's story, while Stalker is open and you have the option to change the story, depending on which faction you help out and stuff. Both games got great stories, it just depends what story you want.
Except metro devs are literally former stalker devs. Sure the open world parts arent as big as the stalker 2 but if it comes to actual gameplay, story and atmosphere then metro had always an advantage over the stalker games.

I think Metro Exodus is the overall better looking game. I have no idea what's going on in Stalker 2, but once you are inside a building the game always gives me the same vibes the Half Life 2 engine gave me 20 years ago. 20 years ago that was good, today..? Not so much. I think it's something with the way how light works in this game in combination with some models that look like they belonged in an older game. I find that especially noticable with humans in this game. They look like they were from a remaster instead of a new game. Stalker has obviously the superiour engine but these flaws are what kinda ruins the visuals for me during my playthrough. It's like high resulution textures on "low polygon character models" or something, I don't know. It's hard to describe what bugs me, bug something with the visuals really really bugs me personaly and it bugs me so much that I consider it the main thing that ruins the experience for me.
Inside lighting was stripped down considerably. The way the flashlight bounces off the walls inside look like an Xbox 360 game. I was thinking left for dead as a comparison lol.
metro, the only game where i played the whole series twice. first in my 1050ti, then i promised myself to play it again once i upgraded my gpu. bought a 2060s. played 1 & 2 again, the redux edition. then exodus remastered, rtx on, mix high-max settings, aahhh... satisfying!
Metro definetly stood Its ground, Stalker 2 lacks some modern tech like bushes moving while u go trough them, modern hair(tbh hair in Metro looks just as good as Stalker 2 which is 2024 game made in Unreal Engine 5) and etc.

The animation of both games is the main problem, and you compare fully patched Metro with day one Stalker 2... Compare Cyberpunk day one and last patch, this will be a huge difference, but video is good anyway, but youtube compression is very bad, 1440p needed.
I didn't see reviews about bad optimizing for metro, but it's true both games have some tiny problems in animations. Also totally agree with awful youtube compression💛😅

I picked up Metro Exodus 2-3 weeks ago for just 4€ with all DLCs on a steam sale and it's been a great experience. I already finished the main campaign and the Two Colonels DLC, might start up the other DLC soon. I don't like fps games at all, but the game allowed me to do stealth and so I did. Lo and behold, I got the best ending on my first playthrough going in blind! I was so content, I don't think I've ever gotten the best ending playing a game for the first time ever. I'm going to pick up Stalker 2 in 1-2 years once all the bugs are fixed and some DLCs are released. It looks good, but going from Metro to Stalker consecutively is like going from Bloodborne to Dark Souls 3, not really something I'd wanna do.
4k engine vs unreal engine, The world of stalker is more difficult to create and optimize... They decided to do it in Unreal because of the large mod community that has been created over the years. you will play Metro once or twice, you'll have some great memories. The wonderful Stalker community will probably last for decades.
Stalker 2 interior scenes compared to Exodus make it look like a vg from 2012. Hideous thing having UE5 drive your game, but disabling shadows casting on the torch. Jeeeeez
More modern day downgraded slop. why are games consistently year after year getting technically worse and worse. we peaked with Crysis and now it feels like we are back to mid 90s tech level.
I didn't think Metro Exodus could hold up so well graphically alongside a game running on Unreal Engine 5. But honestly, it’s a testament to how good the game engine the studio used was at the time.

Metro exodus is the perfect Winter time game, I don't know what it is but it's such an immersive and cozy game for the season.

the first one is playable on high graphics settings using a gtx 1660 (no fg or fsr), the second one needs a 4090

From a technical standpoint Metro is open world just as much as Stalker in the sense that games aren't rendering the full map at all times, but at any given moment Metro is rendering just as much distance/detail as stalker 2, but yes stalker 2 has a much larger open world map. I think the locations/world in metro are more believable though since enemies don't randomly spawn around you every 30 feet like stalker. Each point of interest is hand crafted. In stalker you can clear a place of interest, walk away and then 5 mins later new random enemies will be in the same spot. It's kinda goofy.

But Stalker doesn't play on the graphics, it's the realism and the interest of the game that take precedence. Looting a weapon in Metro ok, looting a new weapon in Stalker is still way above.
The crazy part is that Metro Exodus developers is people who worked on original Stalker game back in 2007 and left the company to create their own games.

I remember getting a 4k monitor and the first game I wanted to try was Metro Exodus after the next gen upgrade patch on series x. Was not disappointed. Very few games can run 4k with path tracing on console at 60fps. Idk how they did it but that is still one of the prettiest games I’ve ever played. I remember walking into a room and just noticing all the little detail, shadows, and reflection on every little item on a shelf. I’m telling you if you guys have a mid-high end pc or a next gen console play Metro with path tracing absolutely mindblown even today.
It was essentially the first game to fully apply RT to production lighting. They recorded the entire game lighting with infinite rays, basically a method like editing with VFX doing RT, path tracing is also limited to only 2 rays. Once they are done recording that light they will fine tune it so the game reproduces that light even without RT enabled, and if you enable RT 1 70% of the light record will be added and the rest is the RT process from the GPU. That process makes the RT lighting in the game very beautiful, but the performance doesn't require as much as path tracing

Metro is incredible but the caveat here is Exodus is semi open but mostly linear whereas Stalker 2 is fully open world. It's not perfect but the amount of detail in Stalker 2 for being such a massive world is insane.

Metro can run at 60fps 1080p max settings on a 1660s, Stalker2 you need at least 4070 to play at 60fps native, I feel like these days you pay for hardware upgrades only to get more shimmering and artifacts from upscaling and FG.

forgot how much i loved metro, what a stunningly beautiful and absolutely detail packed game. it was a little easier and in that way more enjoyable, but i do appreciate the grind of stalker 2, it hooks me all the more and is still fantastically detailed and beautiful for its massive scale.

The gas mask UI in Metro has never been beat. All the water, dirt, grime, and cracks that form on it over time, and how you can manually wipe it clean... such a cool immersive feature that no other game I've ever played has. Not to mention how it changes your view, and your character's breathing noise.
Yeah I just wish the "wiping the gas mask" was able to be used more. The majority of the time the grime on your screen goes away faster than you can clean it.

Realistic and Stalker cannot be in the same sentence. Maybe look at Escape from Tarkov for more faithful weapon modelizations and sounds. If you really want to stay in the Stalker world, weapons mods for Anomaly have more accurate sounds IMO.

When you play a METRO EXODUS, it's like watching a cool movie, but not only watching, but also participating in it. Thoughtful scenario, atmosphere and emotions!
One thing that people dont talk about is how accurately presented the revolver is in metro exodus. Its the only game afaik that actually has the hammer cock back and strike the primer before the gun actually firing. In game this meant that although you can fire more rapidly the delay meant marksman shooting was more difficult.

uhhh no, actually when stalker shadow of chernobyl was in development some devs left the studio because development cycle was insane, they formed A4 studio to create metro, old metro and stalker games even have similar sound effects, but by the time stalker 2 was in development (after cancelling it for first time and reviving it again) GSC team had completely different people working in there

Judging by the comments, people don’t seem to care about realism at all when it comes to graphics, style, or world-building. They think Metro looks better. For me, when directly comparing the visuals, Metro feels plastic. This is due to the lighting technologies, how light interacts with materials, the color palettes used, and the artistic approach to filling interiors. Most abandoned buildings look exactly like they do in STALKER-everything is looted in those houses.

Lighting seems to be pretty weak in Stalker 2, like when you enter a building during the day and lack of casting light from fires at 8:04.
Supposedly the super dark buildings is a bug and I hope the fire shadows are too.
Stalker 2 storms and weather effects are some of the best immersion wise.

the corridor does not mean badly, stalker 2, although it has an open world, the world structure is essentially the same as in the old parts, separate locations, only before they were separated by bubble screens, and now empty fields with random generation of enemies.

I feel like comparing these parts of the games is useless as Metro and Stalker are two very different games for very different experiences. Metro is linear and focuses on telling it's story, while Stalker is open and you have the option to change the story, depending on which faction you help out and stuff. Both games got great stories, it just depends what story you want.
You also have the option to change the story based on your actions in metro Exodus as well
Except metro devs are literally former stalker devs.
Sure the open world parts arent as big as the stalker 2 but if it comes to actual gameplay, story and atmosphere then metro had always an advantage over the stalker games.
So we can close our eyes on details, graphic, physics, weapons & other thing that you saw in this vid

I think Metro Exodus is the overall better looking game. I have no idea what's going on in Stalker 2, but once you are inside a building the game always gives me the same vibes the Half Life 2 engine gave me 20 years ago. 20 years ago that was good, today..? Not so much. I think it's something with the way how light works in this game in combination with some models that look like they belonged in an older game. I find that especially noticable with humans in this game. They look like they were from a remaster instead of a new game.
Stalker has obviously the superiour engine but these flaws are what kinda ruins the visuals for me during my playthrough. It's like high resulution textures on "low polygon character models" or something, I don't know. It's hard to describe what bugs me, bug something with the visuals really really bugs me personaly and it bugs me so much that I consider it the main thing that ruins the experience for me.

Inside lighting was stripped down considerably. The way the flashlight bounces off the walls inside look like an Xbox 360 game. I was thinking left for dead as a comparison lol.

Metro definetly stood Its ground, Stalker 2 lacks some modern tech like bushes moving while u go trough them, modern hair(tbh hair in Metro looks just as good as Stalker 2 which is 2024 game made in Unreal Engine 5) and etc.

I picked up Metro Exodus 2-3 weeks ago for just 4€ with all DLCs on a steam sale and it's been a great experience. I already finished the main campaign and the Two Colonels DLC, might start up the other DLC soon. I don't like fps games at all, but the game allowed me to do stealth and so I did. Lo and behold, I got the best ending on my first playthrough going in blind! I was so content, I don't think I've ever gotten the best ending playing a game for the first time ever.
I'm going to pick up Stalker 2 in 1-2 years once all the bugs are fixed and some DLCs are released. It looks good, but going from Metro to Stalker consecutively is like going from Bloodborne to Dark Souls 3, not really something I'd wanna do.

4k engine vs unreal engine, The world of stalker is more difficult to create and optimize... They decided to do it in Unreal because of the large mod community that has been created over the years. you will play Metro once or twice, you'll have some great memories. The wonderful Stalker community will probably last for decades.
Its a good thing GSC Game World Company (Stalker 2) moved in Prague before the old building was bombed.

Stalker 2 interior scenes compared to Exodus make it look like a vg from 2012. Hideous thing having UE5 drive your game, but disabling shadows casting on the torch. Jeeeeez
Yeah, the flashlight makes any interior look like the OG Metro 2033 the instant you turn it on.
More modern day downgraded slop. why are games consistently year after year getting technically worse and worse. we peaked with Crysis and now it feels like we are back to mid 90s tech level.

I didn't think Metro Exodus could hold up so well graphically alongside a game running on Unreal Engine 5. But honestly, it’s a testament to how good the game engine the studio used was at the time.

Не, мне больше в метро нравится. Там волны и плескание воды, как по мне, прикольнее сделано. Но сталкер может себе это позволить, ведь мир в нем гигантский и супер проработанный.
