I played a black dragon born fighter a few years back and i loved it. I pulled in lots of his personality from how black dragons are and it made for an interesting party dynamic
Coincidentally I am dreaming up a black Dragonborn sorcerer. Cus obviously I have a type
my first dnd character was a black dragonborn warlock with a pact with a devil. it was very fun
I happen to really like black Dragonborn. I take a lot from the black dragons as inspiration. They eat rotten meat and use their acid to boil down their food before eating them.
Oh I love the lore on the dragonborn! I have someone that’s playing a crystal gem dragonborn ancestral guardian barbarian in my Descent into Avernus campaign that I’m running. She has an elder that sold his soul to Tiamat to save the people in the tribe, so now she is going to Avernus to find a way to break that contract with Tiamat and save her elder’s soul.
That’s so great ! I have a lot of trouble finding lore about the gem dragons and there personality traits, how dose your friend play there’s?
@@TheSinisterheroes She plays the typical barbarian character that turns combat into a competition. She calls the tribe her clutch and calls the members of her tribe clutch mates. She also has a fascination with eye wear like eye patches and goggles.
They do love having fancy armor and accessories so that is really on track with the lore
I'm playing as a female Silver Dragonborn(Fizban version) Horizon Walker Ranger in a homebrew campaign now while she's a Dragonborn mechanics wise lore-wise she's a Silver-Half Dragon as she's the daughter of Marcus Goodwynn a merchant turned noble and his female Silver Dragon lover Seraphina Silvercloak aka Sera/Lady Sera with it being that while she was raised in educated in human society due to predominantly living with her father Marcus where she primarily got a human education and learned the basics of being a Ranger including tracking, exploring, survival skills, sword-fighting, and archery though her mother Seraphina did play a hand in raising her as well mainly teaching her how to use the Nature Magic Rangers use her Silver Dragon heritage/nature which also includes her ability to breath a Ice Breath and the two types of Metallic Breath, her innate connection to the Elemental Plane of Air, the truth about the Multiverse and her connection to including how to tap into it's power and the abilities that come with tapping into this great power and the fact she's resistant to the ice and cold aka that she can walk outside in the cold in just a short dress without bundling up and she'd be fine.
Thats indepth! What is the campaign your in? Do you often deal with the multiverse in it? Or is it more so part of the horizon walker training?
@@TheSinisterheroes A combo of both like the Multiverse will be brought up occasionally but it's more of the Horizon Walker training she did under her mother as her mother taught her that being a Silver-Half Dragon means she has a innate connection to the Multiverse like a all Draconic beings including True Dragons like her mother and specifically a innate connection the Elemental Plane of Air due to being a Silver-Half Dragon and part of the training she did under her mother was how to tap into the Multiverse itself due to her connection to it along with my character's mother instilling in her that code of honor that goes with being a Horizon Walker Ranger aka you are sworn by your oath to protect the innocents of the Material Plane and possibly the Multiverse itself from the evil forces that pose a threat to safety of the innocent.
I just started playing dnd for the first time, and I already knew I wanted to do a dragonborn character, but this video made me want to play around with the lore a little bit and sorta flip it on its head. I know probably no one cares but I really like the idea I came up with so kinda wanna share it >.>
I have it more written out but I'll make it short. Ahdrell (my character) was abandoned at a really young age, never felt at home anywhere because other species are fearful of dragonborn, etc. Eventually she caught the attention of the Raven Queen, who for some unknown reason took a liking to Ahdrell, and granted her the power of the shadowfell (making her a hexblade).
Eventually Ahdrell *did* find a dragonborn clan to fall into, but eventually left it when the clan decided to turn away from the gods fully, and Ahdrell didn't want to abandon the Raven Queen because she was the only friend Ahdrell ever had. Since then she's just sorta roamed the land trying to figure out who she really is.
At the time the game takes place, she's still pretty young (15 in human years, dunno what that would translate to in dragonborn years), but because she's spent most of her life on her own anyway, she's become pretty self-sufficient (with the help of the Raven Queen, that is)
That works on a few lore points as well. The raven queen dose make most of the hexblades. Dragonborn are really prideful and will definitely avoid worshiping gods if they could. The loyalty of a dragonborn is pretty strong as well. There’s a lot of great points to really make Ahdrell a full character and not just a 1 dimensional entity. I.e. I see bad I stop bad. Have you played role playing in games before? Is this a heavy role playing game your joining?
@@TheSinisterheroes Yeah, DnD is gonna be the first real rpg for me. The only other game I've played that has rpg elements is Dark Souls/Elden Ring, which is pretty different to this lol. I'm not exactly sure how role play heavy this particular campaign is gonna be, but I'm expecting it to be a lot of fun either way :3
@xTheMLPGodx dnd can go a lot of different ways some games are more roleplaying based some more combat oriented. Some are based around adventuring and lore excavation. A nice mix of all three is what i think is best. Though I really love role play above all others. Enjoy it !!! Best of luck
I've been playing around the idea of a dragonborn oath of conquest paladin. His whole journey is to not become a warlord, but to become the lord of war. Survivors of his attacks exist only to tell the tale of his strength. The use of fear and terror. Allies would be treated as equals, every warlord needs his Lieutenants.
That fits really well with the lore of Dragonborn always wanting to be the best. It feels like a natural progression for a Dragonborn to keep amassing that power, and rule over the land. What color were you thinking?
@@TheSinisterheroes was thinking something either red or black... maybe an odd coloration that has bits from each? I wanted to have an acid breath attack and to work woth my DM to figure out how a grapple would work and then to blast the breath weapon from point blank into my grappled enemies face. I figured it would really convince some enemies to flee and fear me.
Dragonborn actually have a few different colors to there scales so you could be a mixture. Usually the color they follow along is the more dominant or more visual color of there scales. I wish probe gave you disadvantage on dex saves cus that would be awesome, but unfortunately it’s not the rule. I could see a dm giving it to you because it makes sense and you would need to make an attack just to attempt the grapple.
I did a one shot of a Dragonborn tempest cleric that I really wish I could’ve fleshed out more, considering how much I did write about her. Loved incorporating their loyalty, charisma, and stubbornness into gameplay and ended up having in-game beef with a party member (which was hilarious). I need to do another campaign with her fr.
I get that. Sometimes a character is just so great to play as. You sometimes feel like there adventure isn’t over. I have a character like that that I wish I could push through into another campaign.
Considering it was a one shot I can see no reason why you wouldn’t wanna bring the character into a full campaign.
I'm currently playing as a mercury variant dragon born named Sigh, and trying to stick with the whole mercury dragon theme I've made him kind of like a psychic that alters memories and makes people live their darkest fears/nightmares. As he's a mercury variant he isn't as strong as most other dragonborn and doesn't have the cool magical abilities some other classes do but in combat he's an absolute menace and outside of combat there's always something interesting he can do.
That’s definitely something I can get behind. What class did you choose?

I like a 3E 'variety' called drow-dragon. Fully drow and fully shadow dragon simultaneously.
The concept is sooo great. Though I feel like it would need to be more of a buffed version. Cus to turn into a Drow at will always gives me the mental image of it being a large dragon that runs on all fours.
@@TheSinisterheroes Yes, very much 'at will' shapeshifters. 3 forms only though. Plain drow, plain dragon (shadow variety), and a hybrid. In a campaign, I think placing similar constraints as a druid's wild shape would prevent too much.....shenanigans.
It could be really cool if a concept. It would need to be negotiated with the dm but maybe if you had that magic hat that lets you change your appearance, and you just incorporated that into your character, like if you started with a magic item, but you didn’t actually have the item and it was only those specific forms.

I want to play as a dragonforged the soul of a dragon put in a robotic body
I can see it just reflavoring the dragon born to not sleep or eat. I don’t think it really changes the Dragonborn into being over powered.
Nice vid, I know it’s old yah think somehow bard Dragonborn would make something great lol? I know I will likely be multiclassing with Bard/Paladin for BG3 I know yah haven’t referred to that part or any other class so I was wondering about that?
Bards in bg3 are amazing !!! Especially swords bard! Dragonborn are fantastic bards. The breath weapon is a nice assistance to the class. Plus there natural need to be the best and that confidence really plays well.
@@TheSinisterheroes especially with a bard multiclass? Definitely for experience I do recall you can’t align yourself with a deity as a paladin so Idk where the story can go off there even though I have my own I guess there’s some loopholes in it maybe?
@@jamesvarela233 with a Paladin your oath is more important than a deity. With a warlock your patron or deity is really important. You can always fill in what ever blanks you have, but they won’t change much for bg3
@@TheSinisterheroes I guess the oath can probably come from Bahamut as one of those sort of blanks in a way perhaps?
@@jamesvarela233 the oath can come from anywhere, what matters most about the oath is how and when the Paladin makes it. It can be made in a shrine to bahamut or in the after math of a siege. Defining why your character makes that oath is the most important decision of their life. Take time and make it feel right is probably the only advice I can think of.

@@TheSinisterheroesso would it be a good idea to base a dragonborn's personality off of existing dragons? So for instance a blue dragonborn with the personality of a Blue dragon and so on and so forth?
I like to take there flaws as like an inherent part of them. So like black dragons are vicious cunning and love decaying flesh. So I would definitely use that vicious ness and try and get enemies to beg for there lives just to feel joy In slaughtering them. I’d be deceptive in using charisma to lie my way into things.
You don’t have to but I like the idea that being made by dragons carried some of the dragons energy. Which bleeds into the species.
You don’t have to at all most of the time dragon born are a mixture of different colors Anyway, so your free to be what ever you like
@@TheSinisterheroes hmm, this is a rather cool and interesting concept. I'm definitely going to make use of this when making new Dragonborn characters
I do it for all of the Dragonborn I play, I think I find it a lot of fun,
