Thank you... after watching your video, I managed to remove the bolt I was working on for over a hour. Thank you so much
Sorry for bringing up such an old post...but how long did it take you after you applied heat?
Thanks for your great short and to the point video! I had 3 caliper bracket bolts 100% stuck, found your video and gave it a go, got all 3 bolts out in less than 2 min each. Thanks!
Good video on how to. I would consider a wet towel and fire extinguisher present for safety
Propane heat does the trick if it has threadlock or a nylock nut, and perhaps a little on badly rusted parts but don't forget the basics of wire brushing and plenty of penetrant such as Liquid Wrench. Also use a back & forth motion on the wrench to help clear the threads. On sway bar/stabilizer links, such as the video, it's a good idea to hold the backside with a wrench to stop it from spinning. I stumbled upon this video while looking for tips on removing some large steel bolts seized in an aluminum knuckle from dissimilar metal corrosion. So far, air hammering and beating with a sledge hasn’t worked. I just remembered what I had to do when something similar happened, a spindle badly stuck in an aluminum knuckle, I had to take out the entire knuckle and secure it solidly in a vise to drive it out. I guess I just answered my own question.
Nice tip.
I bought exactly the same torch setup from Home Depot last week for exactly this purpose.
8.25 front diff fill plug on 07 yukon.... MAP torch helped un-seize the steel bolt from the aluminum diff housing. Let PB blaster sit on it over night too before torching. Used a 6pt hex with an impact gun on about 2 inch diameter plug with an 18mm bolt. Seeing that thing break free is a big relief!
Thanks my guy. I was doing a alignment and the bolt to the inner and outer tie rod (toe), was seized so tight the guy had to come back. I'll be using your advice. 👍🏼
Liked and subscribed just because of how specific and thorough you were, and because of that look you gave the school bus 😂
dude there is not a speck of rust on that car lol, good video but lol come on least find a real seized bolt lol
Well to be fair, he said "seized" not rusted. LOL
Still, videos like these where the car is pretty much brand new with not even a speck of rust are pointless.
yeah try workin on 25year old shit from UK/Scandinavia !
IF PB OR HEAT GETS THE BOLT OFF.... IT AINT SEIZED MOTHER FUCKERS!!!
Need to see this used on a nice rusty Chevy truck from the early 2000's with 200k+ miles from the snow belt where everything underneath is rusted to shit
I was gonna say the same thing. There was no need to put heat on that. Guaranteed! Heat works, but use a car that needs it if your going to do a video.
I’m doing some repairs on my Sonata and this definitely will help.
Thank you. I used this technique and it loosened a stuck nut
I've been 3 days trying to remove a shock absorber pinch bolt.
Broke sockets. Soaked it in WD 40 every day for a week before starting. Used propane. Used oxy. Hit it.callex it names!
It's like one piece of metal. Cut it in half to at least get the strut out of the way.
Even the untbreaded bolt head is solid!
I've just taken tge whole knuckle off. It's on my milling machine. I'm setting it up. Im going to drill it out and tap it.
I'd love to see you get this bolt out. I think that it would be a very long video.
I have the exact same problem
Stay away from any rubber boots and also make sure your can of flammable lubricate has its nozzle facing the flame.
I've never seen either of those Milwaukee impacts before, I'm about to check those out
Awesome video for saving me trying to unfasten a rusted bolt.
I remember the first time working on my car, I gave up and called a family mechanic. Was mind blown when he did this
Thanks for the tip but I already applied heat to a water heater anode rod nut without success. Also tried a breaker bar, tapping on the nut with a hammer after heating and I used my pneumatic impact wrench. Any ideas on what other tricks might work are appreciated.
50/50 solution of acetone and automatic transmission fluid. it's gotta be able to seep into the nut and down into the bolt threads or it won't penetrate enough to unseize it. slather a lil never-seez on the new anode rod threads before replacing it.
Quick question, has any one ever told you not to work on a car while it’s on the jack? And that it’s pretty dangerously do so. Unless you have jack stands that I’m not seeing. But hey to each is own.
Greezy Duhzit You are absolutely correct! Literally in the past week I had a friend get his leg crushed under his car while he was working on the brakes! Thankfully nothing serious broke, but had he had jack stands or even the car’s tire under it he wouldn’t have gotten hurt!
to top it off, its a harbor frieght jack lol
I always only use a Harbor Freight Floor jack when I'm doing the brakes or oil on my jeep grand Cherokee
@@ppi_god_619 I bought jack from auto parts store, it’s very slightly gradually go down, I found The problem,I returned to the store.
Don’t worry that oil catcher will stop it
I've used a heat gun. Learned that from motor cycle mechanic. It works and safer on paint.
That’s nothing compared to midwestern cars/trucks.
And mid westerns are nothing compared to northern Canadian lol
Tighten first, then loosen. Never break another fastener.
yeah, that is a good way to break the rust seal. Heating does reduce the require break force by 200 lbs+- thou.
... Unless is breaks when you try and tighten it.
It worked for me.. key is wait till you see smoke.. then you are hot enough
Wow! Brand new car and the bolts are fused together? Damn! Looks to me like it's pretty new. But yes torches are very helpful when removing rusted bolts
There's also induction heat tools..... Which are amazing...
Thanks, a bit nervous about using the torch after putting on pb blaster. Going to let that evaporate and give the torch a go on a turbo manifold bolt or 9.
Worked like a charm. Thanks man!
Lol I love your commentary you got yourself a subscriber!
I doubt that bolt was seized. As the poster below stated, get a real rusted bolt and try that.
You talk like your giving a briefing at your job in the military hahah
Im gonna try this to remove the lower shock bolt. Tried breaker bar and impact but no luck. Hopefully this will work.
Lol. Thanks for teaching me how to use and store my torch!
E J you'd be surprised bro lol. People send me questions asking some basic stuff.
ImStricken06 hey thanks to you and everyone else who takes the time and care to share the knowledge that helps so many of us to be so versatile and be able to do so many jobs we haven’t done before.
Thank you very good explanation👋
What is the top attachment on the torch called I have the tank but missing the top
The top is the torch, and the bottom is the tank. 🤦♂️ Together, they are a torch kit, and some retailers call the torch the torch head if you are trying to only buy the torch.
Thank you
LOOK AT HOW MOTHER FUCKING POWERFULL THIS GOD DAMN FUCKING MILWAKEE POWER FORCE SUPER IMPACT DRILL IS!!!!
A cigar lighter would probably work also. They are mini blowtorches. You can pick one up at many gas stations for under $10.
man im hoping this works, i got an original o2 sensor thats been on for over 20 years and its basically telling me "you cant evict me!"
2 years later, did you evict it?😭
this doesn't work on heavy rusty bolts. no way it gonna work because I work on car all the time and that not hot enough.
Kennedy Wong I bet map gas gets hot enough.
In Canada if you use anything less then Oxy/acet torch the bolts just laugh at you. Propane cannot do shit.
@@legionjames1822 I'm on the fence about that? will it really work?.... yea no! cause nothing will work on my bolts... any of them!!!!
Tighten first, then loosen as Rob James has mentioned here recently. Get yourself a mini-ductor heater. This works very well with larger nuts and bolts. I estimate that I saved myself 90% of the trouble in loosening rust-frozen nuts and bolts since I bought a mini-ductor device seven months ago.
What impact gun size is that I have a seized caliper bolt and could not remove it with a wrench and hammer looks like the last time my car had a brake change the person tightened it too much
I would sooner see a socket and breaker bar used to losen the nut after heating. How do we not know that the imact gun removed the nut?
Are those mini propane tanks refillable? And will homedepot lowes refill them?
Could you show this example on an actual seized bolt?
propane torch is enough and easier to use. if you got the money an induction heater
Thanks for the video. From Cyprus
or you can use a bic lighter....with or without gas... same thing
trying to remove the torque strut mount on my 2004 camry. There are two 14mm bolts the top most bolt is stuck and i gave up using a breaker bar when the socket slipped off twice out of fear of rounding the bolt. I dont own a impact wrench any suggestions on getting this bolt loosened? I have coated the bolt in break free bolt spray and liquid. If I can avoid buying an impact wrench that'd be great but if you think that'll do it let me know... Thanks everyone!
what the make and model of the vehicles ur working on
What kind of torch is it ? Propane?
Can you use a pocket torch
I am trying to replace the rear struts on a 2002 Hyundai Elantra sedan. There is a control arm that has an embedded bolt in it (no bolt head). The bolt threads go through a hole in a flange on the side of the strut. The bolt nut is seized on the threads. Neither the nut or the threads are rusty. When I turn the nut , the bolt turns with it. I cannot get a wrench on the bolt, because, as I just said, the other end of the bolt is embedded into the control arm. Would heat get that nut loose? If so where do I apply the heat? And when I put the nut back on the bolt after replacing the strut, do I need to heat the nut again in order to get it to thread back on?
Appreciated brother thanks good video.
I got one on my starter that's a monster, the others came out pretty easily and I'm trying not to strip the remaining bolt. I've tried using propane with a fully charged impact driver and nada paso"
Was wondering if you could help me out. Im trying to remove an aluminum fork cap off my aluminum fork tube. When using a breaker bar the aluminum nut started to deform. I can still bite on the cap but hesitant to try again until I learn a better technique. It's a really expensive part so getting it off is almost a matter of catastrophe for me. I would really appreciate any tips you can come up with. Thanks!
penetration lube bro..
Thanks
Great video thanks
where is the rust? u should see this bolt i’ve tried to take for for 2 days straight
Propane does not heat up a bolt that well on an actual seized bolt.
Very informational!
Push candle wax on it once its heated. It'll draw into the threads and reduce the binding of the rust. Fair warning, it might also may flame up.
joshguy43
..yep
interesting tip.. I've put pb-blaster after heat as i saw it on youtube, perhaps it does something similar..
Negative
Thank you!!! It worked
What tool is that drill
well done
Great video. Outro music a bit too loud compared to voice.
@ImStricken06 Do you recommend dowsing it with cool water after heating the bolt?
Ideally no. Try it without doing that first. Then if you must.... heat, water, heat again, and turn it.
Good shit
...that is, if you don't want to melt the rubber boots...but if you do...hehehehe
Why Seized Nuts when you got *_DEEZ NUTS_*
Why is everyone acting like this is a miracle?
The heat never worked for me so this video doesn’t help me in fact I have never seen a video yet. That is any different from what the usual tip is which never work. that does not work on rusted header bolt
It would work on rusted header bolts if it was only rusted. And if it doesn't work you got a corrosion issue that's much worse than a common rust issue.
I bought jack from auto parts store, it’s very slightly gradually go down, I found The problem,I returned to the store.
Using a bit of wax on the top side of the bolt would remove that stubborn nut much easier.
Bull chit
You don't know about heat and then QUENCH?
Wish i woukd if seen this video before i brke cut the damm bolt
I've been working on mine for 2 days I don't even know wbat method works
Using propane to free up a seized bolt or nut is like working with mickey mouse tools. I suggest oxy-acetylene is the way to go if you like doing your own repairs. Most times you cannot get the part hot enough as the metal is like a heat sink, especially on a large mass of steel. Invest in a new or used oxy-acetylene set up for happiness, success and a pro way of getting the job done. Good luck to the aspiring students in the you tube classroom, from New Rochelle N.Y.
Ql vid..
Not sure how well this is going to work on an internally splinned cv bolt on an 06 Cabrio. Stupid freakin morons decided to use this set up where dirt, snow, grime, rust etc could lock it up.
Great video
I don’t trust using a flame near a car though
Why
When Eminem is fat .
lol
By a DeWalt that milwaukee is shit
Duh!! Of course it came off you had a fucking drill
Problem was you were using a Milwaukee.. shoulda used a Dewalt..
😉
