  • Another face mask? Yes but faster & easier than ever!!!!!!
This method uses a serger & a sewing machine but can be adapted if you don't have a serger. There are no pleats & no turning right sides out. This eliminates time & hassle letting you make bunches more! In place of the elastic, use cording - paracord or shoe or boot laces. To make cutting really fast & accurate, use my Winner Designs 8" x 10" Rectangle Template. Kid masks can be done with my 7" x 9" Rectangle. Plus, I show how to 'fussy cut' with my Fussy Cut Frame to get those cool designs right where you want them!

Thank you so much for sharing this tutorial! This is just the type of adjustable mask I was looking for for a few people since the Olson style that I was making doesn't seem to work quite as well on larger jaws or bigger faces. @@mickiebarker5691 if I'm understanding correctly, it'll melt the plastic to the straw when you iron it. Just make sure you use parchment paper or a paper bag or something between the straw and ironing board and another layer between the straw and iron! It'll probably widen as it flattens, so you might have to trim it but I'm not sure. Before it completely cools, you might be able to kind of roll it between your fingers (thru the parchment paper so not to burn yourself!) to get it to form to the cord better.

Linda, you have a very tidy method for adding the filter pocket, but it places the opening in the center, over the mouth. If the wearer then forgets to add a filter, they only have one layer of cloth for protection. One cloth layer is not enough. The pocket could be added using the same technique, but with the resulting opening within an inch of the top. For my masks, which are very similar to this design, I make the opening at the top. Check out Filti.com for filter fabric. Your design, Linda, is very efficient and much faster to make, plus it will fit over the many unique N95 designs out there, making it easier for our heroic medical personnel to keep their N95 masks cleaner, longer. Thank you for all you have done!

to feed the string - make a loop at the end of a length of wire - feed it into the casing, thread the string through the loop and then pull the whole thing through the casing.

I have been using the wire tabs that come on coffee bags. You can cut them in thirds and they work well. I just make a larger pocket for it.

Thank you for this video! I love how easy this mask is to make, and how cool it looks. I am a "lefty" too; so it is nice to see a video from MY perspective. Love how fast you talk. I learn a lot in a short time. (people who are new to sewing, might have to rewind a lot! Ha..... haaaaa!) You make it very interesting and have the coolest tools! Wow just reading comments in many UA-cam videos seems people always try to dig in with more negativity than just a simple “Thank You” for taking time to provide something educational. What ever happened to gratitude. So what if shoe string is not your choice, so what if it is easier to show sewing string in loop so you don’t have to restring afterwards. (Apparently you’ve never had to pick out stitches where the string got caught in your stitching). Gosh people if you don’t like what your seeing...You know what...click it to another channel. Much easier than knit picking.

Wish I had a stash of fabric, I'm using pillow cases and old bedsheets here in Illinois. I like to sew but haven't for a while, making do!ls and doll clothes. I've made some masks with what I had, I work at a special needs school but we are obviously closed now I have time on my hands!
I enjoyed your video and simple pattern use! I like the idea of stringing the ties through a casing! I will try that next time!

If you lay the cord into the material and then sew it closed you can avoid threading it thru. Makes it loads faster.

    • @Sally-yw6ic

if you use a presser foot for zippers and keep the cording to the left of the foot, the foot edge should push the cording away while stitching the seam.

There is paper with the pouch she puts. The strings are in the back of the head. Wash every day. I spray the mask when I get in the car with acidic water, which does kill germs and doesn't bleach like other things. People with water ionizers can do that. I use paper in my pouch. This is better than a mask from a bandana, and many people are doing that.
