Qt I'll tell you you're a jar to watch farm finish in poor you make it look so easy. Thank you for doing all your videos. I'm in Baton Rouge Louisiana, and it's really helping me out quite a bit, thanks again.
Not sure if it was mentioned in the video but is there some type of separation between the patio slab and the foundation of the house or is it ok to pour right against it ?
I’m an engineer and we always specify a gravel base under concrete pads for proper drainage and to help avoid sinking. Surprised that I see so many videos that don’t use a gravel base. At least you guys are using rebar though! People don’t use rebar or welded wire fabric, and then wonder why their concrete cracks. 🤔
Concrete is the absolute best building material! The way it forms, the strength & the durability are just wonderful. The finishing is an absolute joy to watch. Thanks for sharing! It makes me want to do some of this myself - may be a smaller job a single person can handle? A larger job is impossible without an army of workers all knowing what their role is & possessing the requisite skills all picked up on the job or is there a “cement school” kind of thing?
Great job! When I used to do this working with my dad(a long time ago) we would box out around to pipe just in case you needed to replace or work on that pipe. You would not have to break out your slab to do repairs on the pipe. Just a thought for next time
In Australia, "Able-Flex" you wrap the pipe (or hard interface surface) with a sticky backed 10mm thick grey foam sheet. This gives you enough play so the concrete movement (over time) doesn't break your pipe or existing concrete
This is why you pay for professional finish carpenters and concrete finishers. You get reaI happy returning customers and tons of referrals. THIS guy would be on everyone's 'approved' Iist. Bet he's booked out for months in advance, even for the year. Good stuff!

Knowledge and experience is what separates the real pros from the rest.
Hello Mr. O'Dell. I have a question. I had seen your videos and in a couple of them was a 4" thick porch slab. In this video here, 14'×18', and the other video was 12'×6'. What rebar size did you use in those slabs ?
yeah Dave.. I'm doing the same thing this weekend.. Hopefully.. I need to extend the existing patio about 12x14 I appreciate the 'inspiration' as I will need it! Just me and a electric mixer and about 100 bags of quick crete .. I'm 60 yrs old.. I might just be able to do it for the 'last time'.. hahah.. Now if i wasn't so cheap, I would hire someone to do it for me but I'm cheap.. and there's no way around that.. Thanks buddy.. Watched a lot of your shows over the last couple years on this stuff. Hey man, nice work. Just a question, a lot of people have meltdowns for pouring new concrete along existing foundation, from a professional perspective, do you see anything wrong with that when done correctly and slowing away from the house ? Thanks !
Crazy that took only 3 hours, be it would take me an entire day and look half as good lol. That's what it means to be a real professional though, getting awesome results quickly so both parties can be happy after the work is done.
Thanks for the video. Thinking of pouring something similar in my back yard? Question, why don't you have a layer of gravel and plastic added in this project?
Great job, I’m thinking of going into business 2020 and this was helpful. I’m a union carpenter and wanting to do this as my business. Happy thanksgiving to all...
My contractor installed a 50'x7' stamped concrete patio but he made two "mistakes". First there is no slope whatsoever so the water sits by the house wall; second the slab depth is only 2" even though our agreement was to be 4". His solution to both is to cut a trench in the middle of the patio to move the water away from the wall. is this a viable solution and is 2" depth even acceptable in the industry ?
I watched several of your videos because I’m preparing to pour a small shed slab. I’m in the Rocky Mountains. Why no gravel base for optimal drainage???
Hola Senor Odell, great video with interesting details. Do you recommend the use of drainage inside the concrete, or using a little bit of slope in an angle on the concrete floor? Looking forward to hearing from you. I have a project for my back yard. Want to do it before the winter of this year, 2023. I am going to request for a free estimate when the time comes. Thank you.
Great idea about people not getting to attend the expo, to commit what they would like to see and you check it out wile videoing and they can see something that they might have other wise missed out on.
I am doing a 21'x16' patio extension off of the house and existing patio. I plan on installing a screen enclosure with metal roof afterwards and was told by a neighbor that I would need to dig down a foot along the perimeter, by about 8" wide, for the footer. Does that sound about right? Some people that I have asked have said that I need to use base gravel and a moisture barrier while some have told me that it isn't necessary. Would you be able to clear up some of my questions for me? Thank you in advance and for posting these kind of videos. I am located in sunny Florida.
Great job. I'm considering converting my back yard from grass to completely concrete. Question: How necessary is it to put down a gravel layer before the fiber mesh and concrete? I don't see it done as often as I used to. Thanks.
Great video! Curious, around how much can i expect to pay for a professional crew to pour a 4 inch concrete slab as the foundation for a flagstone patio? (not including flagstone) Patio is 20' x 35'
Hey thanks for the video it’s been very helpful I do have one question . I’m doing something similar off the wall of my house it’s only going to be 10 x 12 how do I make sure I have the proper slope away from the house so water does not collect . Thanks
I'm doing a small patio 8x13 with a short sidewalk to the garage mixing in a wheelbarrow. Temps are supposed to be around 63. How long before I can remove the forms and walk on it?
Hi there I have a question for you. I have a contractor in Nevada that’s putting in a patio in our backyard and we have an RV storage we’re building and he says we don’t need rebar in the concrete for a boat and JetSki‘s. He says that concrete can hold up to 10,000 pounds without any rebar what do you think?
I don’t know much about mix. So you design your aggregate as well as your PSI? Looks great. I saw a checker board looking slab the other day. They swept each 2x2 square perpendicular to the next. It looked neat.
It’s nice you kept it below the weep screed. The homeowner probably doesn’t know how much you helped in the long run. The pipe insulation also. Too many people don’t know or care.
Hi, got a question about cement, I live in southern Utah and my concrete flakes off in places. The concrete company that makes it said that is normal here because of the weather cold then warm. It has fiberglass in it no rebar. Is this really what is going to happen as the years go by? It is less than a year old
Can you give me an idea about how much this cost the home owner? I wanted to help a friend build a composite deck on a level yard but wouldn't want to have to go through getting a town permit and then have them say it has to be built on top of a cement slab to be legal. I'd just do the cement slab and slip the deck. Thank you. Nice work by the way!
Same to you and yours and thank you for the video I am retired so I don't get out much and the only suggestion on the Vegas trip maybe you could show us some of the girls LOL
My wife and I were thinking about doing something like this but to create a flat area for her to roller skate and me to setup a rail and halfpipe for skateboarding. What's the estimate of how much something like that would cost?

I enjoyed watching this pour. I also believe that if you pour concrete on a cold day you have more time to even it out before it sets.😎😎👍
Very true!
Not sure if it was mentioned in the video but is there some type of separation between the patio slab and the foundation of the house or is it ok to pour right against it ?
You can pour against it. Best to put a few dial pins in the foundation to the patio though.
Or you can just put expansion in

I think it depends what area your in
I've been told you don't need a base OR rebar for a 4in slab because it'll "float"? On the ground.
Doesn't sound right to me. Thoughts?
Great video. How did you go about in putting line separation in the lab? How is that done?

I apologize if this is a repeat question, but I’m curious why you didn’t put gravel down before the rebar and concrete?
I think because he said the native material was already settled (from previous slab) and well compacted. 🤷♂️
