Tony is, as always, perfection here, and this is a wonderful song by Johnny Mandel! Right now (Oct. 29, 2023), I’m watching the 1979 movie “Agatha” (about mystery writer Agatha Christie’s mysterious eleven-day disappearance in December 1926 after her husband told her he was leaving her for another woman) on TCM right now and just realized that this song is the movie’s theme song! While the movie speculates where Christie went, the truth remains a mystery almost 100 years later! Boy, do I miss Tony! I am so grateful to have seen him in person twice. Mandel also wrote “The Shadow of Your Smile” and “Emily” from “The Americanization of Emily,” both of which Tony also recorded. Mandel also wrote the tune to “Suicide Is Painless,” the M.A.S.H. movie and TV show theme song.

It was the theme song to the 1979 movie “Agatha” about mystery writer Agatha Christie’s mysterious eleven-day disappearance from her home in December 1926 after her husband told her he was leaving her for another woman. I am watching it right now on TCM. The opening theme, an instrumental, sounded so familiar, then suddenly it clicked that I had the CD with Tony singing it and thus recalled the title. Johnny Mandel wrote this gorgeous song. The movie, starring Vanessa Redgrave as Christie and Dustin Hoffman, speculates what might have happened during those eleven days, but 97 years later, the truth remains a mystery. The police search for her whereabouts was frantic at the time. Then, suddenly, she reappeared!
