    Brady, thanks for your comments here. Many churches have short-term pastorates so it would be difficult to build a presence based on a name when that name will not be connected to that church after a couple of years. I also have a concern about the danger of building my own empire rather than pointing to the church. But you've given me something to think about. Cheers.

    individual influence > brand messaging, solid
    as a creative and early adopter of the idea of 'digital' as an emerging format for outreach and connection for the church back when the web was a relatively new thing - I've gone on a protracted (20 year) journey to reconcile "the church needs to embrace new & effective formats of communication" with "1-to-1 evangelism is the most effective outreach"
    I love the example used here - Alex maintains a relatively 1-to-1 style of everyday conversational evangelism while embracing the newest formats of communication that enable the 1-to-1 conversation to be expanded to 1-to-many outreach - one of the strongest examples of modern+traditional evangelism IMO

    Dang…that trend of brands vs individual accounts makes my heart sad. It will be very hard for pastors to avoid the pitfalls of building a ministry on one man and not the body/church. Lots of churches have in the passed closed after a head pastor leaves. I’m not sure how we address that.

    • @nextdoorchurch
      @nextdoorchurch 3 роки тому +2

      I agree with you (as I respond from my church's account...lol!). I don't want to build up MY brand. The Church isn't about me. It's about Jesus and about ALL of us in our congregation. Usually I agree with Brady, but I think when it comes to churches, focusing on an individual is wrong.

    • @prochurchtools
      @prochurchtools  3 роки тому +1

      It certainly has its challenges - which is why this video is light on solutions. But if we think about traditional in-service programming for churches, it’s already setup this way. You have one person on stage (preaching, altar, announcements, transitions, etc.) for the majority of the service for the majority of weeks during the year. This is how the majority of churches operate. So we’re really just taking that offline rhythm and extending it to online.

    • @enochappathurai
      @enochappathurai 3 роки тому +3

      My church + board are definitely hesitant to go towards an individual representing the church. Might I suggest a community-based approach, show lots of faces, let people engage with Ps XYZ bringing you a word of encouragement or ABC taking you through the events coming up for the church, and doing so consistently so there's a relationship forming. It seems like a decent middle-ground where people can relate to your church and its community while not shifting the focus to just an individual (and away from your church).

    • @nextdoorchurch
      @nextdoorchurch 3 роки тому

      @@prochurchtools I appreciate your personal response! (haha, maybe that proves your point, in part!) I believe it shouldn't just be one person up front in person or online. We're a small church, but we try to have different voices--singing, reading scripture, giving the benediction, sharing announcements, etc. So I think bringing multiple personal voices to our social media is a great idea. I just have no desire to push my personal brand AS the church. I don't ever want my local church to be about me. But it might work for some churches. :)

    Hey Brady! You talk often on keeping content mixed up and different to Stop The Scroll. My church's social media team has been keeping stats on every post to be able to see what gets the most engagement. Graphic posts collectively have a lower percentage while photos of our members get more. Why are our graphic posts always getting lower engagement ? Shouldn't they be getting more since they are mixing the content up? How can I create graphic content that gets higher percentage of engagement. (I am the graphic designer on the team, not the caption manager or the person who comes up with the content ideas... I just create. So can you make a video for those on the creative graphic design side of things on social media teams ?)

    A quick inspiration - Nothing that has happened to you is a surprise to God. God’s hand is always on you. He’s ordering your steps. If the door is closed, it was supposed to be closed. If the person walked away, they were supposed to walk away. Don’t get upset, keep moving forward. God has already worked the situation out. He has something greater in store for you. Declare by faith, “it is already done” 🤍

    Would you not be guilty then of feeding into the cult-of-personality that’s so recently blown up in our faces in a big way? And the danger for the church in helping a pastor develop his personal brand is that it goes with that pastor when he leaves the church. The collective identity needs to come first even though from a marketing POV it might seem less efficient because in reality most members have limited access to the pastor and what they be experience on Sundays would be the culture of the collective.

    • @prochurchtools
      @prochurchtools  2 роки тому

      In that respect, it's less about a marketing POV and more just a natural extension of the church's in-person rhythms. If you have a singular lead teacher/preacher for the majority of Sunday services, then that should translate to online also. In my experience, if a leader or church treats online differently than offline, that's generally a reflection of how they see the digital world and less a missional value. Now, with that being said, *if* we're going to push forward with a collective identity - and I think there's a ton of merit to that - it needs to start with our in-person services. Online should be an extension of offline.
