Making Doctor Strange Cosplay

- My journey in making my Dr. Strange Cosplay for Halloween 2017. My third and most involved project, I learned to sew to make this costume. I made every part of this costume save the large leather waist belt which was crafted for me by Renee at Lemazing Leather on Etsy. Special thanks to the love of my life, Diego, who always gives unfaltering help and support. Also to Miss Betty’s School of Sewing. Betty, my very own Ancient One to my Dr. Strange, taught me the sewing and embroidery skills to make this possible. I hope you enjoy!
Excuse me, WHY DOESNT THIS HAVE MORE LIKES!?!? This is the MOST accurate doctor strange cosplay ever!!
That is the BEST and I think most accurate Dr. Strange costume out there. I applaud you for your fantastic work.
Thank you so much, I truly appreciate it
I have one question for you how did you attach the cloak to the robe part.
O. M. G. It Is amazing, It blows my mind completely!!!!!!!
Wow this is the most impressive and work intensive Strange cosplay I’ve seen. It looks incredible, awesome work
Thank you very much! Definitely a labor of love for me
You're incredible, I hope I can one day make something equally fantastic as this but yeah, dont think anything can beat this, its amazing!
SpringHeeled-Jack thank you so much !
What an amazing and beautiful work! Betty is an excellent sewing teacher!
An amazing job! Congratulations!!!
You just earned yourself another subscriber. Doctor Strange is my favorite!
This is amazing! I am just looking into making this but I don't know where to start!!
Terric video and immense talent. I loved the production since I've waited anxiously to see what I have been hearing about. This is terrific
Hello! I was wondering if you would share the paftern for the embroidery. My younger brother asked me to make him a full doctor strange costume for Halloween and I want to make it as accurate as possible. Your cosplay is absolutely stunning, you did an amazing job!
Очень здорово получилось
do you have a pattern for the cape that you would be willing to share? im in the processing of doing my own version of this and any pattern(s) would be really helpful.
I actually do have pattern pieces for the cloak, but be aware that I sort of did it the very work intensive way. It involved cutting out many (as in around 40) smaller pieces of other fabrics and almost quilting them together into the sweeping patterns you see along the back. Thus the pattern is actually 40-50 smaller pattern pieces and a grid of how I sewed them all together. If you aren't looking for creating something that work intensive, there are likely much easier and faster ways to do it.
@@raithmore This is the best I have seen anywhere! I would like to know the dementions of the cloak when finished and how much lining did you use , did you print it your self or get it online.
you are very talented keep up the great work.
Nergal GodOfDarkness Thank you so much for your kind comments! I had high-res image file for the lining pattern on the cloak. I used a website called fabric on demand to print it on high quality cotton. I can look up the amount of finished fabric used in the cloak but to my memory I ordered 6 yards to be safe. When you get printed fabric you have to be careful (just like in dying) on getting the whole amount you need in one ‘lot.’ Otherwise, if you get part way finished and run out of fabric and try to re-order, the color and saturation may not match. If you need a link to the image file for the lining, let me know.
I pray to the gods that you see this: do you have any sort of patterns or templates for the Cloak? I've been scouring the whole internet trying to gather as many tips and references as I can to make it for an art project
Hello and happy new year. I did not use a preset pattern by itself. What I did to create the cloak was To start with the Butterick pattern number 5673 (Halloween cape). I created that out of tissue paper first. I then put on a mannequin. I added additional tissue paper by cutting, sizing and draping till it looked correct by eye. This mainly included changing the way the neck band was so that it could accommodate the cowl, as well as adding on more material to surround the left shoulder in the front. And then retrace that onto a new pattern. I wanted to capture the design on the back. I drew this onto the pattern that I had created a tissue paper. I then cut out the individual pieces and retrace them with seam allowances. I essentially quilted them together into the final cloak shape. If you don’t care about having multiple different fabrics creating a pattern in the Cape, you can skip that part or find some other way to simulate the appearance of that design on the back of the cloak. I hope this helps as a general guideline, if you have any other questions, let me know
Where did u get the shield spell? Or how u made it? Nice work!!
It is an acryllic disk, which was etched with a laser cutter to put the 'spell pattern' runes into the disc. Then there is a small box in the center that you can hold with your hand that has a battery and an orange LED light in it. When the transparent acryllic disk is lit by an LED, the light travels through the clear parts (so you dont see the orange) and when it hits the etched parts, it is diffused (so you see the orange).
How did you make the spell disc??
Great video but I had a few questions. Where did you get the fabrics especially the liner for the interior? And would you make other if so how much would the cost?
For the cloak lining: I used a high resolution image of the interior pattern (I can provide it for you if you like) and had it printed on fabric at fabricondemand.com
Albie Caruana can you please
have a look here, you can download the image and find a lot of useful information that helped me: www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=259750&page=2
Albie Caruana can you point me to the direct post of the fabric or pattern
Post #36 on that same page, though I strongly recommend reading through all the posts, they are very informative
What are the five fabrics you’ve used?
On the cloak they included a wool crepe, a mini-suede, two different colors of velvet, and satin.
No explican nada
so you have an embroidering machine and the pattern needed for the designs on the edges of the cape? and the pattern for the shoulder peice? if i send you fabric and measurments. will you embroider the designs on it for me? i'd gladly pay
I digitized the patterns myself based on photos of the cloak from the original doctor strange movie. I would be glad to send you the digitized files in the even you are able to embroider them yourself. At the moment, I am working on other projects (in between my regular career) and I do not have sufficient time to take on commissions. However, I am glad to help guide you in any way I can.
that would be great!! then all i have to do is find someone with a machine to finish the job. thank you :)
i think i just friend requested you on facebook. for options on sending the designs. if it is you. you're a popular guy. being the first one on the list lol.
Hello! Yes, I do have the embroidery machine pattern that I digitized myself (made to emulate photos of the embroidery on the movie cloak). I certainly do not mind sending you the files, if you would find that helpful. At the moment, however, I do not have time to do the embroidery as, between my career and other hobby projects, I never seem to have enough time :)
