- I had been waiting a long time to get back here and it was worth the wait.
This is a mini tour around the stunning Glens and Mountains on The Isle Of Harris in the Outer Hebrides.
The first section is the best out and back I’ve ever ridden which reaches the very remote and impressive overhanging cliff of Sron Uladal. The largest in the UK.
Then after we return on fast and flowing natural single track before riding to the beautiful Glen Crabhadail. This turned out to be one of the toughest descents I’ve ridden down towards Loch a Ghlinne flanked by the spectacular mountains.
Then after returning back up the Glen I decided to tackle the Lewisian Gneiss covered mountain of Leosobhal. I’ll not say much more about this part as it’s part of a longer term project that I will hopefully complete in October when I return. You will get to see a sample of this descent before the weather made it too dangerous and ended the route I had planned.

Many Thanks, The Flowing Scostman
U should soon get back to stornoway! yes the berms are still washed out and stuff.. but still running pretty good. If u return, I recommend an off piste trail called windy corner. You will pass the trail on the way up to gallows on the strawberry hill side.
Yes I'm heading back up later this year, I can't wait! I'm going to check out that one and maybe scope out some places with potential for a trail build too👍🏻
I had a nasty spill at the bottom of Sron Ulladale a couple of years ago. Picked up a puncture at the bottom of the decent, sorted it, and just as I set off to head back towards the road, miss judged a drain, front wheel dropped into it, going very slow, and straight over the bars. First thing to hit the ground was my face!!! followed by my knuckles, still holding the bars. Was a long walk back to the castle with burst lips and cuts on my face! But was worth it, what a decent to the bottom!
Sometimes it's the slow akward ones that can cause the problems.
That sounds like a sore one.
Anyway it sounds like it hasn't put you off. Classic MTBer response bloody and bruised but still says the descent was worth it👊🏻
Cracking film, rode Sron Ulladal on the recommendation of Heb cc. Fantastic out n back.
Thanks very much! I'm already looking forwards to my next trip up to do it again. Glad you enjoyed the ride👍🏻
Lovely....lost my tent to the wind on Horgabost Beach in 2016!
Thanks!..... It won't be the last one lost up there 😂
We rode around there a few weeks ago. Impressive precipice and all. 👌
It's a classic ending to the trail. I'd like to check the view from the top next time.
You’re not hanging about there big man
Cheers dude. It was a good day on the bike!
Amazing video. Look like you took bravery pills on that one!
Thanks mate! I decided to leave it as one longer video to capture the whole ride.
Crazy how quickly the weather can change in the mountains. Funny thing was my escape route off the mountain was probably harder than the route I had originally planned but was more sheltered.
Glad you enjoyed the ride👍🏻
Have you had any accidents doing MTB? It just looks that a severe crash could be around the next corner?
@@92redferrari Yes, I've had a few injuries but that's part of mountain biking and almost every other sport.
I try to mitigate the effects of possible accidents E.g. rde within my limits and wearing appropriate protectiive equipment Allthough despite all that it they can still happen but you'll be surprised about how many can be saved too by being relaxed and reacting quickly.
I'm not advocating anybody else copy this. Everyone should only stick with what they are comfortable with it just so happens that my comfort zone is a bit different from some others.
@@TheFlowingScotsman thanks for the information on this. It probably needs you to build up your skills within your own parameters. Recently my bike slipped on a wet root and I ended up with some bruises, only a minor accident. That was on a gravel trail so I was just wondering how often MTB riders get mild to moderate accidents.
@@92redferrari Wet roots are called 'sniper' roots for a reason, at least it was just bruising.
In terms of accidents there are too many factors to give a definitive answer. Some people crash more than others and some people just bounce while others break. Just keep progressing within your comfort zone and you'll keep on the right side. Coaching might be an option to get the core skills dialled in so you build on a stronger foundation. Ride safe!
Yeah nice! Mtb isn’t dead 😃
I do ride bmx but I like mtb!
Thanks man! You've got skills on the BMX👊🏻
