💲 NEED FINANCIAL ADVICE? 💲
1) Google "fee-only financial adviser" or visit www.NAPFA.org (largest association of fee-only financial advisers). NOT an affiliate link
2) The first question to ask any financial adviser is, "Are you a fiduciary to me 100% of the time". Get the answer in writing
3) Please note that some people call themselves "fee-based". This is NOT the same as fee-only. Fee-only advisers have committed to being fiduciary to you 100% of the time.
4) Personally, I would only hire an adviser who is a fiduciary to me 100% of the time. This is not a suggestion on what you should do. Just sharing my personal preference.
⚠️ Azul's "Scammer" Warning ➡ PLEASE READ! ⚠️
Be careful of scammers. In the comments section, I will NEVER ask you to contact me, offer any investment products, recommend a stock broker, or anything similar. Some scam bot commenters 'ask' for investment help, and later, other comment bots reply with "how great X idea/investment/person is" in the replies. These are scam threads. Do not fall for them.

*257 {Hasseb & Hammad}[NE] New ATM Scam That's Draining Bank Accounts
Make sure you get a Receipt when you walk away from the ATM. That's how you know that your session ended.
And always hit the cancel button when your transaction is finished.
Same thing goes for at gas station gas pumps. Get a receipt.
All great points.
Chase no longer gives receipts. They stopped that a long time ago.
BOA makes me re-enter my card for very transaction
This is such an easy fix that the banks can fix within 1 minute, globally. All they need to do is to make sure that if you are using contactless for withdrawing out cash, you can only do it once and the session automatically closes out.
The software works like that. You cannot have an open session on an ATM cash withdrawal when you did not use a card. When you take your cash, the session is closed.
Already that way in Europe. Bank security guys in America just aren’t thinking
@@Straightdeal If that was true, this video would not have been made
@@tn2cw Yeah, they definitely aren't. Probably they outsourced everyone who does actual work. If I knew what company this was, I would put them on my "too stupid to buy" list.
Duh
Never use an ATM with people hanging around and never talk with someone, no matter how friendly they may seem, in the vicinity.
Good idea ... because they might want to just grab your money, your card and your phone.
@@lazygardens True.
Tell people to back up if they are too close to your personal space. Don't be afraid! If you are, tell them you have the latest "Flu" going around. 😊
I haven't used an ATM for years. If i want cash I get cashback over the counter at the supermarket. You need a debit card to do it though..
I go to my bank drive through atm, not other sketchy locations. I wd enough cash to spend , to avoid using debit card leaving data everywhere. Some businesses charge extra for cards , unknown to us….cash still is safest payment. Rarely use cc unless for bigger purchases, but people don’t realize a thief can drain $ leaving us in huge debt, forget about tiny rewards points bc it’s not worth it.
If I approach an ATM, and I find anything off or not as expected, including another individual just “hanging out” in the vicinity, I will simply go find another one. A little bit of situational awareness will help prevent you from becoming a victim.
You don't understand what this clip is all about
Great PSA. Never walk away from an ATM until it’s completely closed out the transaction.
Banks should have their ATM software permit only one transaction per card activation. Inconvenient? Possibly, but most people go for a one-off transaction.
@@brucesmith9144this is the norm now. Alll ATMs I use with tap to pay now ends after 1 transaction.
@@brucesmith9144 The information in this video is a bit outdated. Most banks are by now aware of this scam and nowadays already require an additional tap and/or PIN challenge in order to complete additional transactions.
Don’t drive away like I did, either. My card was still in the ATM, and the man in the car behind me helped himself. I got my money back. They had his car on camera while withdrawing from my account.
When abroad always go into a bank that has an ATM inside. Thank you for posting this and I'm sorry you got scammed.
Exactly
NOOOO,,,,, go to the CASHIER and NOOOO,,,, he didn't get s a med.
And PAY with MONEY WHEREVER you go ffs
Thank you for alerting people to these types of scams.
It is important to get the word out about these types of things. I could totally see myself falling for this if I did not know about it. Stay vigilant. Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment. 🙏 Azul
And calling the bank on how to use the contactless feature safely may likely get you nowhere, you know with so many functions being moved oversea now, and those answering the phones not being much help
ATM's need to be programmed to close out automatically. If you need another transaction, then you have to initiate a new one. It's an extra step but it will help protect your account
That's what Wells Fargo do
My Chase does that exact thing.
Cameras should capture who uses the ATM after you.
I think they do
You are " innocent" you don't know what this clip is all about ffs
I dont like the fact that ATM number keys each have a unique tone to each number. THIS COULD BE EASILY RECORDED. I feel they should be monotoned to prevent theft.
How would the touch tones be recorded?
Anyway, if you're that scared, sing or talk loudly? Shout? Mimic a cop car siren?
Make it fun!!
@@frankdelplato5997 it _is_ the same tone for every key. (Monotone as you said).
You might be thinking back to when you perhaps used to call a telephone banking telephone number (not using an app) and enter a PIN using your phone keypad. There, each digit did produce a unique tone (which could indeed be recorded) but that's nothing to do with using an ATM.
You guys are missing the point
Situational Awareness!!! Everyone! Be mindful, be alert! If someone hanging around the ATM area, friendly smiles at you or proceeds to talk to you, cars with people in it near ATM parking lot staring at you, waiting for something etc, leave right away!! Do not stay doesn’t matter if it was day or night! Just Leave!!!
Thank you, Azul. I've recently heard of this scam. Fortunately my wife and I are dinosaurs in that neither one of us has ever used an ATM. I'm a techie, been building computers since 1990, but always go into the bank for any transactions. It's good that you report scams to your followers. Thanks.
:-Don
We have so few banks it is becoming harder to go into a bank to do transactions, two functioning banks all the others are totally machines only in Stockton on Tees England, all our local banks have disappeared.
Thank you Azul much appreciated 🏴
Yeah, if I see anyone near me at an ATM i leave and find another one...
Thank you for this information I didn’t know about this scam. I have always practiced extreme vigilance when going to an ATM. I didn’t even know about tap method. I do always complete a session and definitely request a receipt because I had a situation when the money wasn’t dispensed out of the machine, but was deducted from my account and my receipt was proof it said what the requested amount was and the dispensed amount was 0. That receipt proved to the bank that I was telling the truth.
If anyone is milling around an ATM then I'm not going to that one.
Some of those folks take forever 😩
A lot of shops offer cash back at the till, make a purchase and request a cash withdrawal at the till which is safer than out on the street.
Use CASH, CASH, CASH, CASH, CASH, CASH, CASH everywhere
Hit the cancel button or clear button after you are done.
I do the same thing at the gas pump.
The company who built the ATM software really should have realized that this would happen.
They will have customers complaining that they can no longer do multiple transactions with a single tap of the card.
You cannot remove your card to end the session after tapping, since it's not inserted. You are forced to close the session explicitly in lieu of removing your card. How else can the software know you're done?
@@newtboys Only allow one transaction and exit from the account when it's done or you cancel the transaction. Put a notice at the top like "one transaction per tap". It's totally heinous for an interface to leave your account wide open on a public street.
No one can think of every possibility, but this is big fail. Everyone has the habit of walking away after they take out their money.
@@MashaB-pk8hl Put some text on the screen that says "one transaction per tap". And have an AI explain the security fix to the complainers.
I once put my card in aATM ,put in my pin ,and not only did mo money come out ,but my card would not come back .
I had a queue behind me and I said to them I think this ATM has been scammed and I am not leaving this machine untill I speak to my bank .I was stuck there for about 20 mins till I got through to my bank and told them to block my card.
If the scammers were watching me ,they must have been gutted .lol
Good alert. Thankfully I don't use an ATM very often. Also, if you have someone behind you acting "helpful" at an ATM better tell them to back off please 🤔.
That's EXACTLY what this guy wants us to do, not to use it, you are asleep. USE IT
I ran from the ATM when I pulled up to an outside one, and someone pulled up too close to my back, almost hitting my car. There's a distance line but the person chose to tailgate. I am a victim of identity theft and trust no one!!
Banks fault. Who even asked for a contactless function to take money out of their bank accounts?!
The people using the contactless function.
Who asked for ATMs? Banks now don't have to hire so many cashiers anymore.
Never seen one here in the UK and Europe. Never knew they even existed.
Had contactless removed from my card from day one👌
CASH, CASH, CASH, use it EVERYWHERE
In the fine print on most if not all cardholder agreements it states if you allow someone who is NOT the cardholder to use your card, all future claims of fraudulent actions are null and void. Doesn't matter if you authorize a family or friend, and someone else steals it later, you are SOL. Don't let ANYONE who's name is not on your card access.
,,,, ffffffff the card

Go inside the bank wait in line if you need cash. Far safer than an ATM.
Halifax won't give cash over the counter at certain branches, they just point you to the ATM. I refuse to use them and if I need to pay in or withdraw cash I use the Post Office counter service only.
If possible, I always use the ATM inside the bank.
I go into the bank to use the ATM, not the one in the lobby. I also press cancel when finished.
Great advice. I've never used the tap feature, but I'm OCD enough that I never leave the ATM until I'm satisfied the session is over, even if there's a long line behind me. I also never use the ATM alone - I generally take my son in law or my eldest grandson.
Also, don’t do business with Bank of America. They will not support you as a customer.
BoAzzholes
None will support
In the UK, I ALWAYS go into the bank and use a machine inside.
I like his final comments about scammers trying to set up a sense of urgency. I remember reading that, in life, usually things that are urgent are rarely important and things that are important are rarely urgent.
If one designs one's life around that concept it is much harder to fall victim to something or someone trying to get you to do something they want you to do.
Session should automatically finish, as soon as a single transaction is finished.
My wife works for a local credit union. It video records till transaction is closed.
I got scamed twice here in Thailand, I learned my lesson I ONLY GO INTO A BANK TO MAKE A WITHDRAWL ON MY CARD< NEVER NEVER EVER USE a ATM MACHINE ANYMORE.
I don’t even have a debit or ATM card. I decided years ago that was not safe in many ways. Thanks for the info.
How do you do that?
Not possible in today's world

Sure it's if you live of the grid, survive on your own.
By saying that I know right off that you have never traveled any distant from your home and you most likely do not even have a passport. Buena suerte con eso!
@@davidsebastianelli1326
Most born Americans don't have a passport on hand. Unless, we're preparing to travel.
Thanks for making us aware & sorry you had to go through that. I very rarely use one. I used to bank at Bank of America for a long time, but now I use a semi small bank in TN. Their less likely to go under than large ones too.
I never use an ATM. Ever
I never use ATM. I only pay for things in cash or use gift cards. I have purchased with cash 30 non-expiry gift cards, since some stores no longer accept cash.
That's exactly what this guy wants you to do, you just failed for it
Unfortunately, this is not a new scam. This happened to me in South Africa about four years ago exact same thing.
I always wait till ATM is back to the login screen before I leave.
I used my cash card a few days ago and the cashier told me I also had to enter my three diget code. I told him no way and he continue the purchase without the need of my code. Hint: that was as suspicious as it gets! I'm old, not stupid. Decided I will only use cash from now on. Only use the ATM that is about 5 inches from the tellers, during work hours, since they cut hours and there are now lines.
Who would go to an ATM with other people around? That's asking for trouble.
I think doesn’t ask that after a transaction it just ends the transaction and if you want to create another one you have to re-insert your card
I have my ATM card set up so that I immediately get a notification on my phone when my card is used,...also an e-mail,...but most importantly a $200 max that can be taken out in any single day. If I lose $ 200 that is on me,....but no more.
Yep, and if you already took that $200 out the machine should have timed out well before the next day. I also have locked out my ATM from purchasing. Also don’t have bank overdraft using another account. That account could be drained as well in a scam. Instead put a low dollar amount notification so you could do a manual transfer.
I have mine set at $1.00.
@@MamarAvery, are you saying you get a notification if your ATM gives out $1?
I have a $50 notification set up.
I have mine set at $1 too so I get notifications of every transaction
MY bank does require ANOTHER authorization (TAP AND PIN) even after saying “Yes” to “Do you want to do another transaction”. 🤷♂️ And yes, you should ALWAYS hide your hand putting in your pin regardless. That’s ATM 101 situational awareness from 30 years ago.
Correct. Most banks by now are aware of this scam and nowadays require an additional tap and/or PIN challenge in order to complete additional transactions.
@@MaxPower-11 I just don’t know why he called it “new” in the title. Kinda close to click-bait.
@@YankeeStackingAgreed!
@@MaxPower-11 It’s a fine line between a catchy-and even sensational-title, and clickbait. I know personally it can be tough.
I always walk into the lobby now. With high tech long range cameras possibly out there and some people knowing the button sounds when passwords are entered, I don't trust doing transactions out in the open.
I dropped my tap and go card at the supermarket checkout and the lady who picked it up and gave it back to me unknowingly triggered the pay function on the till, no pin required. She could have pocketed it and used it several times before my pin number was required. I keep it at home now for security and use one without a tap function for shopping.
At an ATM just make sure you close out and finish and dont go after dark.
All ATM’s have cameras so they should have video of “glue boy”
I never use an atm 😅 I always get my cash inside bank teller. I Keep about $120 on me, so if I’m robbed - it’s not devastating but unfortunate. In stores, I never use my card, I pay cash. High value items can be paid online & picked up or delivered. Don’t be lazy, make your own plan & stick to it. 💝
Banks should build enclosures around ATMs. And cause the ATM to start beeping as a reminder to take your card and close out the transaction.
It's terrible in the uk..😢
The bank must fix that security breach.
We keep a limited amount of money in our checking account/ATM account. When bill time rolls around we fill it up from elsewhere to cover the due amounts.
But checking and savings accounts are tied together
@@pjacksreads536
Mine aren't
@@pjacksreads536 They're tied together to a certain extent, but not entirely. I don't know about your bank, but mine have always had different account numbers for checking and savings. Not that we have so much money to go around, but we also kept a couple of accounts in our former state active which are entirely different organizations than the accounts in our new state. All told, there's quite a bit of insulation between all of them.
Anyone can use multiple banks BTW.
If you have a post office close they will dispense cash just like an ATM. Plus it is much safer.
haven't used an ATM in 40 years
Were they around 40 years ago?
there are way more scam phone calls, emails and texts than legit ones. the problem is not just ridiculous numbers of scams out there, but the banks and police often are not helpful or make it such a pain to deal with that some victims just give up.
Simple solution. NEVER use the contactless at the atm.
At 5:14 he finally mentions that they need to have _shoulder surfed_ your PIN for this scam to work! (Unless there really are some rogue ATMs that don't require you to reenter your PIN for each transaction in the session).
I think the biggest problem with contactless ATMs is that they require your PIN to be entered more than once in a session. This is giving several chances for your PIN to be shoulder surfed.
No problem in UK No contact less on ATM machines .... Its crazy have it on there !!!!!!!
Crews in Chicago steal the whole darn machine.
😂😂😂😂😂
The chip reader is more secure than the magnetic card reader and you can’t get skimmed by a criminal’s skimmer that’s been attached to the ATM or gas pump. Gas pumps end the transaction when you put the pump handle back. Grocery stores and retail locations end the transaction after the single tap. The ATM is a special case and I must admit that I pull cash for the cleaning lady and have no memory of how I end the transaction. I just take my money and go. Yikes!
Actually, there are skimmers that can skim your chip card. They are just less common.
@@victortoombs4754 here's a little more.
Chip cards are less vulnerable to skimming than magnetic stripe cards, but they are not completely safe. Here are some things to know about chip cards and skimming:
Shimming
Criminals can use a technique called shimming to capture card information from chip cards. Shimmers are devices that can be installed directly into card readers to copy chip data.
Tampering with card readers
Fraudsters can tamper with legitimate card readers to skim card information.
Contactless pay
Contactless pay is considered the safest way to use credit cards.
Protecting yourself
To protect yourself from skimming, you can:
Inspect ATMs, POS terminals, and other card readers before using them
Pull at the edges of the keypad before entering your PIN
Use ATMs in well-lit, indoor locations
Be especially alert for skimming devices in tourist areas
I transfer to pay our Cleaner!
No Check!

Agreed, I get notified for everything!
I remember hearing about one bank a while back that had this glitch mentioned in the video. The system didn’t automatically close after each session if the tap option was used. They fixed it once the glitch was identified.
I’ve walked up to machines, and someone’s card is in the slot. They were probably there several minutes before I rocked up to the ATM.
It's a simple software fix. Something banks can easily fix, if they've yet to do so.
This machines grabbed my card wouldn't give it back then next day they empty the money l believe it's inside bank workers also involved
Good info. Thank you.
For me I usually go to the bank teller and not to the Atm coz of those “safety” issues.
Thank you so much for the heads up. I passed it along to friends and family!
I always press the clear or cancel button after transaction at ATM.
I am afraid of using ATM machines .
With revolut you can switch off contactless
I used the ATM the other day and left without checking that my session ended, but there were no additional funds withdrawn other than what I withdrew.
To add: people need to check their accounts daily or set alerts when anything is purchased or withdrawn.
In RSA our ATM gets bombed with a mine explosion. Nowadays the bank will have ATMs next to the bank branches after 8pm they close it with a metal sliding door and always have appointed security that can help and prevent criminals not to temper the machine. Another option is that they rely on supermarket grocery shops where you can withdraw very limited amounts of 100 pound per person.
Great public service. Thank you.
The best protection is not to use ATMs at all. I stopped using them 10 years ago.
I never use tap, no matter who tells me to "tap", I just say "I don't tap".
If this was new, i would spread the word. If i had money i would worry but we are living paycheck to paycheck cashing each one to pay bills.
The ATM I use is a drive up, and there are no lines where people are out of cars. If the slot didn’t work, I would just go inside or get cash from my grocery. Luckily, most of us don’t need cash that often.
Always ask for a printed receipt, that solves a lot of these ATM scam issues..
You should also make sure there is a limit on drawing amounts as well as daily amount.
Beware of card skimming. If you see silver lining inside slot like you have never seen it before, don't put your card in it. If you ever see any car with a driver and a laptop, especially near ATM, be cautious. Card skimming is worked by bluetooth and bluetooth means thief is nearby. If you see someone with a laptop near ATM, be sure to take car plate number, just in case you lose your card.
Thank you for continuing to coach us in good directions
Neither of my banks allows more than one transaction with each entry of my pin. Withdrawal cash and it gives the card back. Get a balance, it gives the card back. Can be frustrating but maybe that is for protection?
That's one explanation for losing money from bank accounts. After months of money disappearing from my checking account and after changing several banks, I just stopped using banks, period. Many times, my direct deposit wouldn't be available on the deposit date, and my deposit would be drained within one or two days. Each and every bank I questioned always said, "We don't know what happened." I jyst got fed up and refused direct deposits to any bank. It worked for me.
Thank you so much for letting us know without people like you we would fall fowl of these nasty tricks
A good bank will require you to reenter your PIN for each transaction, even if you haven't closed out the session.
Yes, or at least require you to tap your card again.
My daughter were shopping at a local supermarket when my and noticed a young man with a camera taking photos when folk were lifting money. My daughter watched him and he noticed her ⌚watching him and moved away but my daughter reported it to the security officer and they checked the camera for him so hopefully he got caught. Nonsense. It is more secure than magnetic stripe for example. Besides, the information in this video is outdated anyway. Most banks are already aware of this scam and nowadays require you to retap your card and/or re-enter your pin for additional transactions at the ATM.
