Always learn a lot from you, Father. This really spoke to me. Coming from a hypercritical family, I think this affected my inner voice. I often find myself dwelling on self-loathing. It got better since I started praying the daily rosary but from time to time I still find myself being harsh on myself. I realize now that this is a form of pride and a disservice to my path to holiness.
Praying for all of us to conquer our tendencies for negativity and self-loathing 🙏🏻

This is a lot to unpack and Im super negative so I need to listen to this over and over and over! I want to be healed and delivered from this so bad. My big takeaways: Stop thinking about yourself, start thinking about God. Its all about Grace. Also a biggee: demons want us thinking about anything as long as it isnt God.

Fr Ripperberger is one of the good guys (one of the best). Of all the sermons I have listened to, of all the channels I follow, none have had a profound effect to the extent that this one has. I often find myself at first resisting and then over time accepting what he says. The advice is often hard to follow but when you do, it really bears fruit. This is the sign of someone who doesn't tell you what you want to hear, but what you need to hear, i.e. Truth. And yes sometimes it hurts. But it is the only thing that can set us free and save us.

Wow this talk really spoke to me because ever since 9/11, I've been totally consumed about politics, the criminals in govt, the crumbling church, etc. Ten years ago I returned to the Latin Mass, thanks be to God for the grace to do so and I have noticed and been part of the negative talk and anger. I am normally the one joyful about my faith. This talk gave me "permission" to let go and let God and laugh more, because all I can do is pray for all the church and the world's ills.

Father Ripperger is such a blessing for the Church. I listen to him all the time. What struck to my heart is the negativity that some Catholics and particularly Traditional Catholics focus on. Everything he said is so true. I love the Traditional Latin Mass, but I was raised in the Novus Ordo. I attend both. Sometimes I cannot always attend the Latin Mass. I love the Church and it’s caused me pain to hear people speak about the scandal in the Church all the time. I use to watch Traditional Commentators, who would speak about theology, but now they are always slandering the Church and telling you what’s wrong. I stay far away from them.
What woke me up was slandering Pope Benedict XVI. Pope Benedict XVI is very humble filled with The Holy Spirit. He radiates such goodness. Pope Benedict XVI has emphasized shining the light on Christ. I’m so grateful to be Catholic. I know many wonderful Priest, both in the Traditional Latin Mass and Novus Ordo. The Church is beautiful. We must Love the Church. Beautiful talk.

I didn't always think this way until I worked with a negative person and learned some things about her life that caused her to be so negative. Catholics are the best equipped to help these poor souls find a BETTER perspective so they can get PAST their BITTER perspective.

Justine ...we have to help ourselves before we can help others ....Father talks about tha at roughly the 12:minute mark....the principle of sufficient reason .... it's a bilical principle based on having a plank in your eye ... And, although well intentioned, the thinking is way too simplistic when dealing with humans ... some people are negative about everything else because it's too painful for them to look at their own personality flaws .... If you go into it, with the hope of planting seeds .... be prepared to plant them consistently over a long period of time ...and even then .... be prepared for them NOT to change .... Dropping tips ? Sure ! Thinking you are gonna help them change ? Well, you are better off praying and leaving that in the hands of the one who has the control, and may have other plans for that particular soul for reasons you won't know until Judgement. God bless you for your zeal to help others and I'm so glad you were able to assist the one you did

I worked in inner city schools which was very difficult, and endured several physical assaults there, as well as in suburban schools. I had to stay teaching in the public schools for 15 years so that I could retire early due to my depression. Maybe God can still use you to pray for these prisoners who often have children of their own. There are ministries that work in prisons, such as Prison Fellowship. Maybe you can suggest this to your supervisor, so that change can happen in this prison. God bless you 🙏.

MultiJpad, I often pray for all our LEOs (Law Enforcement Officers, for anyone who doesn’t know), and also for crime victims, perpetrators, and their families. What a tremendously difficult job you must have! It’s got to take a ton of spiritual strength just to get through the day, much less be your best in your job and for your family as time goes on…
I hope things are getting better and you’re seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. 😄
Just in case in might help - when I was in a hard situation, I tried praying for the others involved (the ones making things difficult for me), and it helped me A LOT. Have you ever tried briefly praying for the prisoners and your fellow officers, before/after work and maybe a couple times during the day - like at lunch and 3:00pm? And/or when things are going wrong - just a quick “Jesus help us!”
I’ve found that a quick prayer for God’s guidance before work is very helpful, too, as is a daily Rosary. The Rosary is EXTREMELY HELPFUL!! The peacefulness and guidance kicked in after a few weeks (and remember the main point of the Rosary is to meditate on the mysteries).
Something else great is lectio divina - meditating on a short passage of the Bible and listening for God to “speak” to you about it (in your thoughts) as it relates to your life.
Anyway, I’ll continue to pray and hope that you find more peace and blessing in your difficult work. I’m glad the corrections system has a faithful Catholic working there. God bless you & yours!

Dear Father Ripperberger, I'm in probably the deepest 'dip' of my life...and this is a huge eyeopener! i thank you for that!
I have bin watching your videos on youtube now and then, especially after a while of beeing in a negative spiral and doing al kinds of things that have nothing to do with God...and finally looking for answers and usually find them in your video's!
Because I'm from the Netherlands and English is not my native language it takes me a bit more repeats to 'fully' (haha well fully only by God's will of course) understand what you're saying...
Anyway a big thank you and God Bless!

Fantastic talk. I learned a lot. I think we have to be careful of just focusing on the negative in all areas...even in traditionalists. I wished Father would have pointed out that not all traditionalists are miserable and focused on the negative. He lumped all traditionalists into one group. Would have been more accurate to call them radical traditionalists. Im a member of a parish that celebrates the TLM only. Everyone isn't miserable. I see people smile all the time. Father made great points but should have admitted that there have been a lot of things going on in the Church for the last 50 years that justifies being concerned. But yes we should not be obsessed with these things and try to focus on the positive. Are there angry trads that focus on just the negative? You bet, but I think he went a bit hard on all traditionalists and didn't clarify who exactly he was speaking about.

I attended a Traditional Latin church for about a year after something very serious happened at my church. I had the exact opposite observation. The people were the most friendly and welcoming, and I was really struck by the reverence shown during the Consecration and reception of Holy Communion. Everyone kneels to receive and no taking the Host in the hand. I thought those people already have one foot in Heaven.

Father was spot on with his critique. He is always clear in his talks that he’s making general statements. Won’t apply to literally every person. If you are “traditionalist” and bothered by what he’s saying...then he’s speaking to you.

This was really good. I will feel good about myself even if so many of the church's significant people are so bad. As long as we long for God and do His will as best we can, we should be on the right side on the last day.
I also have so many religious books and now I am VERY selective in what I read/buy. My bible should tell me what I really need to know. Douay Reims. Before Vatican II.

I have had problems with scrupulosity. My experience is that it is much more complicated psychologically than how Fr. Ripperger explains it. It is not simply due to thinking negatively. It is about fear! It can be rooted in a degree of obsessive compulsiveness - an anxiety disorder. Scrupulosity was part of my becoming an agnostic and leaving the Church. After I did not have to worry about sin so much, I was no longer scrupulous. Seriously, the entire problem was gone. Nevertheless, I did have difficulties with depression and anxiety - both of which were resolved quite well through psychotherapy. I returned to belief in God after about 10 years and then the Church after an additional 15 years. I had the sense the scrupulosity might rear its ugly head again, as I never fully overcame it while in the Church, that is in that context. And it did. However, I was better equipped to deal with it. Got a spiritual director and regular confessor, who knew of the problem. Step by step I became increasingly aware of God's love for me. That was important (there might have been issues from my upbringing that inhibited that understanding in me earlier). Nevertheless, the problem would arise from time to time. OK I began praying to be relieved of it - that worked/works! I noticed more and more how my mind functioned - the habits it was in. I identified frequently looking back over events, searching to see if all was OK the way I acted (this part is consistent with Fr. Ripperger's suggestion of negativity). I gradually purposely decreased that behavior. I also began humorously coming up with some scenario that I knew was not sinful but which I knew my mind could make it into one; so I chided myself and laughed at the ridiculousness of it - this also helped and helps. I also recognized the issue of dependency as related to scrupulosity. Fear that then wants to be relieved by someone else telling you your behavior was not a sin - a difficulty depending upon one's own rationality to make distinctions. With regard to that, I began depending upon my own mind - for example, if my mind wanted me to worry about something that I knew was not sinful, I would not bring it to confession. I found that not bringing my scrupulosity to confession helped me a great deal - it really made me stronger in overcoming it. At the same time, I would suggest that challenging the dependency aspect must be done with care. If a person is not yet psychologically strong enough to challenge it, he must understand the dependency issue and challenge it in the ways and to the degree he can, gradually gaining independence of thought and the strength that goes with that. If a person has dependency-related psychological problems, it can take a good deal of therapy to manage it. Hence, there are factors that Fr. Ripperger identifies that can be part of scrupulosity. However, my own experience is that it is quite complex. For example, I doubt I would have been so well equipped to deal with it when I returned to the Church had I not had an excellent psychotherapist an one point in my life. After that work with him (talk therapy alone), my depression was totally overcome and my anxiety issues quite decreased. I was in a master's program in music and said to myself: "wow, I don't have nervous stomach every day at school (whereas I that had been the case since grammar school - possibly also involving an incident with a teacher - along with my character and temperament being on the sensitive side). In addition, while as humans we all share certain characteristics, each of us is also unique, the ramification being that one solution does not fit all people equally - people can have a similar difficulties which due to a number of different factors. Know thyself! :-)

Some people are trapped in negativity thought processes. I work with such a person, at first I thought she was bitter and unforgiving, but as she shared things done to her, my annoyance changed to sympathy. It would have been helpful if you shared some ways people can self-help themselves out of negativity and/or how those who must be with them on a daily basis can help them.

I wish the Church would teach us HOW to forgive and not just TO forgive. I thought I had to forgive the nasties and still be nice to them when they had not changed. I became a doormat and lost my self esteem over many many years. Now I hate myself for being so stupid. This happened for most of my life bcse I knew no better. It was only when I got a Smartphone that I was able to listen to brilliant teaching on utube. We are NOT taught our Faith properly and Satan uses it to our disadvantage. I had to Google how to forgive. Thank God for Google.

      Luke 23:34
Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do
I like to look at it like this 👆
I've found that a lot of people out there think they are good people and they actually don't know when they are being nasty/wrong. A lot of people act they way they do for a number of reasons. Such as, their upbringing in their family, social experiences, education, etc....
If you understand that that person may not really understand what they are doing is wrong, it's easier to forgive them. Plus when you also look at your role in the situation, knowing you were not stupid, you just probably at that time didn't know either. So forgiving yourself for your part helps you also to forgive the other person.
When I have looked back at those who have walked over me, I realized they may just not know what they actually are doing is wrong and I understood how my role played into the situation too.
Don't get me wrong, some people do know they are wrong and well that is between them and God. So then forgive knowing God will handle them and if possible avoid them.
